Ever since his passing a little more than a week ago, the entire world has been looking back at the life and career of Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell.

There have been few players to ever rival what Russell did while playing in the NBA.

Even all these years later, there are some milestones created by Russell that haven’t been surpassed by even the greatest players alive.

For example, he won a resounding 11 championships during his 13 seasons in the league.

That’s a feat that hasn’t been topped since then – in fact, no one has even come close.

This is the sort of accomplishment that people are thinking of when they talk about Russell being one of the greatest to ever play the game.

All these years later, Russell is still in a league all his own – and probably always will be.

NBA Greatness

Russell played in the NBA for 13 seasons and walked away champion after 11 of them.

He was an All-Star for 12 consecutive seasons and only missed out on being one in his rookie year.

All in all, he had a career average of 15.1 points, 22.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.

Yes, he had an average of 22.5 rebounds per game.

Obviously, the NBA was different back in the 1950s and 60s but no one can deny the power, skill, and talent of Russell.

He remains not just a legend to the Celtics but also to the rest of the NBA too.

It goes beyond his 11 rings, too.

Russell was a warrior for social justice, equality, and fighting for respect for athletes and people of color.

His place in history goes beyond the number of trophies he took home.
