Mavericks' Jason Kidd after Game 2 loss: We died by the three in the third quarter

The Dallas Mavericks led by 14 at halftime in Game 2 against the Golden State Warriors, but that lead evaporated when the Mavs scored just 13 points in the third quarter. Golden State roared back to win, 126-117, and take a 2-0 lead in the series.

"When you go 2-for-13 and you rely on the three, you can die by the three," Kidd said after the loss, via ESPN. "And we died in the third quarter by shooting that many threes and coming up with only two."

While the Mavericks struggled to get shots to fall in the third quarter, that wasn't the case in the other three quarters. Dallas scored 32 in the first and fourth quarters, and 40 points in the second quarter. The Mavericks made 21 of their 45 three-point attempts Saturday, tying the NBA record for made threes in a playoff loss.

"If you can make them, that's great, but you just have to understand, if you miss four in a row, you can't take the fifth," Kidd said. "You've got to make it. That just puts too much stress on yourself and on your team because, if you're not getting stops on the other end, it turns into a blowout."

While the Warriors only scored 25 in the third quarter to close the deficit to two points, it was a 43-point fourth quarter that buried the Mavericks.

Luka Doncic led all scorers with 42 points, his seventh career playoff game with at least 40 points. Dallas is 2-5 in those seven games, though.
