Stephen Jackson gives emotional monologue speaking about death of 'twin' George Floyd

Following the death of George Floyd, a Minnesota African American man who died in police custody on May 25, former NBA player Stephen Jackson shared multiple social-media posts remembering his friend he referred to as "twin" and also demanding justice.

After Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, the man seen using his knee to apply pressure to Floyd's neck in a video that went viral across multiple platforms, was arrested on Friday, Jackson and others spoke to supporters during a rally held at Minneapolis' City Hall.

Per ESPN, Jackson said:

"I'm here because they're not gonna demean the character of George Floyd, my twin. A lot of times, when police do things they know that's wrong, the first thing they try to do is cover it up, and bring up their background -- to make it seem like the bullsh-- that they did, was worthy. When was murder ever worthy? But if it's a black man, it's approved.

"You can't tell me, when that man has his knee on my brother's neck -- taking his life away, with his hand in his pocket - that that smirk on his face didn't say, 'I'm protected.' You can't tell me that he didn't feel that it was his duty to murder my brother, and that he knew he was gonna get away with it. You can't tell me that wasn't the look on his face."

The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski tweeted multiple videos of Jackson's speech (videos contain NSFW language).

Along with Jackson, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, Philadelphia tight end Zach Ertz and United States Women's National Team player Julie Johnston Ertz, Cincinnati Bengals rookie signal-caller Joe Burrow, and former NBA player and current ESPN on-air personality Jalen Rose were among the sports figures who publicly commented on the killing of Floyd this week.
