NBC Sports Washington has named Chris Miller as the new primary play-by-play announcer for Washington Wizards games. Justin Kutcher, who had done the play-by-play duties the past three seasons, announced his resignation on Friday.
After 3 grt years calling @WashWizards games on @NBCSWashington, I’ve decided to pursue other opportunities. I want to thank NBCSW, the Wizards organization, and all of the DC fans for welcoming me into your homes. You’ve got a fan for life, and hope our paths will cross again
— Justin Kutcher (@JustinKutcher) April 29, 2022
Justin Kutcher replaced longtime face of Wizards TV Steve Buckhantz in 2019. It was an unpopular decision among fans. Kutcher was paired with various color commentators, primarily with Drew Gooden.
But, Kutcher has a national profile. He has worked at both ESPN and Fox Sports prior to NBC Sports Washington. His biggest moment with the Wizards was calling Ben Simmons the “most overrated” player in the NBA.
Chris Miller has been with NBC Sports Washington since 2007 in various roles. His most recent roles have been sideline reporter and in-studio analyst. He also filled in for Kutcher throughout this season in the play-by-play role.
Today is a celebration of thanks to EVERY person that has impacted my journey. I stand on the shoulders of some amazing people who guided me with their words and actions. Thank You ALL so much. Now, Let’s. Get. To. Work. #DCAboveAll https://t.co/E0L3uptkKy

Judging from the reaction, the switch to Miller is well-received.
