1st day of Yardbarker

I'm excited that I get to post my first blog on Yardbarker. The season is now at a close for most teams and we are coming off our first playoff win in 13 years. It seems as if everyone in the world is more excited about our win than us. Maybe it's because we know that winning 1 playoff game is not the goal...the goal is to be that team standing in Feb. That is the only team that's going to be happy at the end of the day.

I see a different mind set from me and from every one of my teammates this year. Guys seem a lot more hungry this year as opposed to last year. I think it's because we are realizing that next year is not promised, so why not take care of business this year. Well now it's time for me to get back to studying film on the Colts. Leave me a comment if you have any questions or just wanna say hey.

Go Chargers

Being a Baltimore guy, it's easy to appreciate great linebackers. Good luck in the playoffs, Shaun. Take care of business this week, and then make sure you knock Tom Brady off his feet the next week.

Beat the Pats!

Question: Which offensive lineman in the NFL plays you the toughest?

Thanks and as for the toughest lineman i would have to say chad clifon from the packers. Hes an under the rader kind of guy.

Shaun Phillips! Welcome to the Yard. It is good to see more athletes coming here and talking to us fans and sharing their stories. You are a beast I will admit that even though I am not a Chargers fan ( Proud Jets Fan! ) Great Game you had blowing up plays in the back field and running down running backs and others on the grid iron. Hopefully you stay a while here and good luck against the Colts.
Acal

Thanks for the support.

I would think that the Chargers are the last team (maybe after the Pats) that Peyton Manning wants to have to play in the playoffs. The Chargers have had the Colt's number the last couple times they met and this weekend it should be no different. Defense will win this game and all us San Diego locals want to see our defense come out smokin" - Can't wait!
Welcome to Yardbarker Shaun -

We wont let you down.

sp

Welcome to the Yard Shaun. Good luck against the Colts!

that is the first playoff win of many shaun
i hope u beat the colts

How tough is it to get a hit on Peyton Manning? Does it feel good if you get that opportunity? I would think it's a great feeling to get one of the G.O.A.T.'s like Manning or Brady.

man, it is nice to see a fellow boilermaker on here. i remember you as a defensive end in the black and gold, #15. but, as i'm sure you know, purdue is in colt's country, so while i root for all my fellow boilers, i have to cheer for my hometown colts to win.

The Colts wont drop 3 straight to you guys, but best of luck anyhow.

It was a win in the first round of the playoffs. Last year with Marty you guys went 14-2 and earned a buy for the first round. If I were you, I wouldn't count beating the no offense Titans as a playoff win considering that you're no further along than you were last year yet. I doubt Peyton will throw 6 picks in the playoffs, good luck!

If anything can be done to prevent a Colts or Pats championship, I'm on board. Good luck and tell my fellow Terp Shawne hey.

Welcome to the yard Sean I think you are one of the more underrated linebackers in the league. What did you think of the Jaguars when you played them? Good luck Sunday and I really want you guys to win.

Thank you for noticing, I thought the jags were a good team real physical and they ran the ball effectivelly against us. They have all the love in the world from i respect teams that play hard.

sp

GO COLTS!

Welcome to the Yard, Shaun! Question for ya - what happened mid-season that made you guys just change gears and start winning again?

There wasn't one thing that happened, we were just playing some good football teams. Another thing is guys started taking it personal and stepping their game up to next level.

Nice to see you here, Shuan. I'm a Bronco fan, but I have to say, you are a great player.

you guys have no chance making it to the play offs - your gonna lose to Brady and the Pats... again

arent they already in the playoffs doushebag?

The pats have to worry about the jags first ha!

sp

so true...I think the Jags have a pretty good chance to upset the Pats...and the Chargers will beat the Colts, would be nice to see the Chargers host the AFC Championship game.....

I've said it all season long...the Patriots are going to take one title and one title only this year.
And that is... the biggest upset in the NFL.

It's called KARMA.

Hey Shaun just wanted to wish you and the Chargers luck in Indy....going to be a great game to watch....GO CHARGERS!!!!!!

Thanks for showing some love to Chad Clifton!

Go Packers!

This is an incredible experience for me!

I'm an amateur NFL scout. I record almost a hundred college football games every year and make out a report of the best players in the draft. I skip the obvious first round players that are heavily publicized, and focus on the players who are not publicized.

Sometimes it's frustrating because I'll focus on a player which nobody talks about, but after the combine everyone starts moving my guy up the draft. But then there's other players you know should be selected in the top 2 rounds but are still overlooked! Shaun Phillips was one of those players!

I have video of him at Purdue blocking field-goals and sacking countless quarterbacks. This Purdue defensive end could run down running backs from behind and actually handle pass coverages! Don't laugh when I say this…but his playing style was similar to Lawrence Taylor. Opposing offenses had to account for #15 on the end. Even after they accounted for him, he'd still end up in the backfield.

For a scout, finding guys like Shaun on video is like finding a diamond. He stood out among the rocks.

I wrote my favorite team, the Detroit Lions about a handful of players with Shaun Phillips near the top.

1. Karlos Dansby LB,
2. Chris Snee OG,
3.Shaun Phillips DE,
4.Ernest Wilford WR,
5.Jerricho Cotchery WR,
6.Keyaron Fox LB,
7.Alex Stepanovich OG,
8.Bruce Thornton CB, and
9.Nick Leckey.

Of course it went in one ear and out the other. Say what you want about Marty Schottenheimer, but he knows about linemen and linebackers. He drafted Shaun Phillips in the fourth round!

Shaun, it's an honor to say you're a great player. I know! I've got the video! If I had anything to say about it, you would've gone in the first or second round.

Welcome to the Yard and congrats on a great win! Looking foward to reading your upcoming posts! Hope you have a good game.

WELCOME TO THE YARD!
Congratulations on your big win over the weekend!

LaDainian's touchdown was crazy.
I don't think I've even seen very many basketball players get as much air as he did.

Good look to you and the Chargers, Shaun!

yea superchargers, shaun lets get another pick 6 on manning

I can't see it happening but if you guys somehow make it out of Indy with a W then it will all come to a crashing halt in Foxboro. Jacksonville has a nice little team but they're no better than they were in 2005 when they lost 28-3 to the Pats. The Pats are significantly better this time around. You guys already got served in September and there is plenty more of that dish waiting for you if you make it through the weekend.

Please do me a favor and remind LT that he's classy. I haven't heard him say that about himself lately. Good luck SP.

KEEP TALKING PATS FAN!

it's a lose lose for the pats fans. because if they win the sb it'll be like "well, that's kinda what we expected" and if they lose it will be like "what just happened?"
And why do pats fans talk about class so much? 1st off THIS IS FOOTBALL not ballroom dancing! can you be classy while DECLEATING some guy and giving him a concussion? 'OH THAT WAS A CLASSY HIT" yea i can see that on sportscenter. and 2nd off your head coach is belicheheaaaaaat.
Keep it classy, san diego.

The classy remark comes from LT whining after the Pats sent him home for the offseason last year. He was upset about Ellis Hobbs and Rosie Colvin doing the "Lights Out" dnace at midfield after the game. He didn't think that was a classy display and went on to tell everyone that he is a "classy" guy. Who calls themselves classy?

Belichick = Best coach in NFL history

We'll keep talking our way to 19-0 and our 4th Super Bowl title in four years. All day!

4th super bowl title in 4 years? Nice math genius, You've been having too many tea parties. Belicheat has a successful career absolutely, he reminds me more of Dustin Hoffman in Rainman than Vince Lombardi, or Sid Gilman though.

Lmao @ your Rosie Colvin comment, most you near Boston ( I say near due to the fact most you drunks can't afford to live city limits) morons claimed you just picked up Lawrence Taylor when he came over, nice call.

cept there much better than 2005 cause they got recievers nd ur just another arrogant patriots fan thinkin ur immortal

if i want anyone to win the super bowl this year, it's the ravens.

since the experts tell me this is not possible, i guess the chargers are a good runner-up.

make sure the colts, the pats and the cowboys don't get it. get it yourselves.

and tell shawne merriman holla back to college park!

Yo Shaun Phillips is the man....The bomb bowler....I seen these cats @ belo or on brodway cant remember but all in all charger fan since birth in 83 born and raised....GO BOLTS....What Up Shaun....Shawne strips and shaun recovers-or the other way around....Shaun Phillips should be in the pro bowl he is a great player....Shaun what were the words exchanged with Jay Cutler?....Peacee

Shaun, good luck on Sunday, I know you will get after PM like always, national newspapers seem to have resurrected the same writers from 94', not that you guys need anymore motivation, but do you all read any of this crap?

I don't know that anyone is as emotionally attached to their team as I am, it took me a few months to get over our loss to the cheaters, I mean patsies. I am not worried about that happening again, call it a hunch.

Don't mind the Boston fans that are hating, most of them were at home every sunday hungover prior to 2001. Funny how even the teenagers will tell you they've been devoted since the sixties, see ya Sunday and get after PM...as usual.

HEy Shaun, if your still checking this, tell more about this guy Tucker, came out of no where the other day, won defensive player of the week, 3 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a recovery for a TD... is he the next "Shaun Philips" (you know, under the radar linebacker about to break out huge)? Keep up the amazing work, it's a pleasure to see you guys rip it up and best of luck.

Big ups Shaun. You, LT and Antonio are some of my favorite NFL players. Don't let teams like the colts or pats intimidate you, let alone spoiled fans like bostonjosh who like to make snide comments on blogs and brag about their own team. They may be better on paper, but the game isn't played on paper, it's played on a field where anything can happen. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY (OR SATURDAY). I know you guys are fired up and will hit some people in the MOUTH when given the chance. Good luck in Indy, it was their year last year and I'm not so sure it's their year this year.

Hey, Shaun, I'm a Chargers fan from waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the Lance Alworth and John Hadl days, and I thinkt it's really cool that you're posting on a site like this and interacting with fans. I appreciate what you do out there every Sunday and wish you & the team all the best @ Indy this weekend!!! GO BOLTS!!!!!!!!!!

Big ups man, good luck at Indy! My team (Chicago Bears) is out, the feel good story (Washington Redskins) is out, so go Chargers!

SHAUN !! HOPE U DO GOOD NEXT GAME CAN'T WAIT TO SEE U THERE!!

SP, my boy! What is up, dude? Man, it's been a while. I still have those memories of being in the upper levels of University Hall during intro political science getting my ear talked off by you and KB (but mostly Kelly). Unfortunately that did turn out to be my major, so KB's actions were a bit of a hindrance, but I appreciate that you guys valued me enough to ask for my opinion on a variety of sporting issues. :-D

Anyway, I'm disappointed that you have come out firm against the Pats, but it is completely understandable. I know that you will never be a fan of theirs as long as you are in direct competition with them, but I hope that you do not hold that against me. Let me put it to you this way: every time my father asks about you, I give you nothing but high regards. ;-)

I know that you will enjoy your time back in old stomping grounds, and I wish you the best of luck this weekend against the "Believe in Blue" machine. If you could do me a favour and please drop a line, that would be greatly appreciated. That's the great think about Yardbarker: it brings communities together! :-D

Also, if you see Hardwick and/or his wife, please tell them that I still have the Molson "I Am Canadian" flag she signed for me, although Molson dropped that campaign ages ago. She was one of my favourite Canucks. ;-)

Have a great day, and Boiler Up! (They almost pulled it off in East Lansing last night, eh?)

--Eric "Boston"

Thanks for the love eric. They seems like yesterday we were sitting in class joking around. I still talk with kb on a reg. basis. Ill be sure to tell nick that you said hi also. I cant wait to get back on my old stomping grounds and put a show on infront of the old gold a black. Well i hope that all is well with you and best of luck with whatever your into now. good hearing from you.

sp

Well, Nick doesn't exactly know who I am (although I imagine he would if he saw my picture :-D). His wife does. That statement was mostly directed towards Jayme and not Nick. I had a Canadian beer flag and she had to sign it (well, she didn't have to, but she did, and I value that). Also, I had a nice conversation with her father/Nick's eventual in-law about "old-time hockey, eh?" Mostly because I'm a Bruins fan and she/her family is from Leafs/Sabres/Whichever team Balsillie wants to buy and move to Hamilton today territory, and we're in direct competition with each other. ;-)

Other than that, everything is going swimmingly. I think. Talk to me in May when grad school should be done. :-D At that point, I should be in a much better position.

Anyway, enough of that; again, best of luck, and I hope that everything goes well for you this weekend and you end up back in this general region. If that were to happen, may the best team win (we all know who that is). ;-)

We are all proud of everything you have accomplished, and while some of my friends/fellow fans refuse to purchase a certain brand of HDTV because of a certain teammate endorser of yours, I harbour no such ill will and do not condone that behaviour. :-D

Take 'em down, Shaun. I live over at Escala and hoping I can walk to the Qualcomm next week....(Jags drop Pats, etc...). Good luck!
