A One-on-One With Andy Reid
When asked what he has improved on the most during his nine years as Eagles head coach, Andy Reid complimented the interrogator.
"That's a great question," Reid said before coming up with his answer. "Might be media relations," Reid said. "I was good. Now I'm terrible." At least he admits it. But Reid realizes the importance of speaking with the media -- and the importance of choosing his words carefully. Reid's stoic temperament is one reason he is the most successful head coach in franchise history. "It's not torture. I understand, believe it or not, the media has a job to do," Reid said. "It's tough to have to sit down and write something every day about a group of people. Not an easy task. I try to bring them a little story every day. In this position you can't say everything -- that's not what this job is all about. It's like a family, you have to keep a certain amount in and keep that continuity. "You're juggling 65 to 80 guys a day, so there are a lot of personalities. Everybody thinks a little different. Then you have the organization, the coaches, the personnel staff -- there are a lot of factors. You tell the truth, you put it out there, but sometimes you just can't give them the whole thing." But you have to give media -- and in turn the fans -- something. "That's the connector between you and the 60-plus thousand in the stadium," Reid said. "I don't have that opportunity, but through the media I can present certain things." The Philadelphia media doesn't make it easy.
