Andy Reid's Son Britt...aka The New Keith Richards?
Well I think Britt Reid has finally gotten his Father's attention. According to the released criminal complaint, a visibly intoxicated Reid spent 2 to 3 hours in a Dick's Sporting Goods store last Thursday. Employees said he seemed lost and at times needed assistance. After leaving the store, he got into his Dodge Ram pickup, jumped a curb in the parking lot and slammed into a shopping cart. Police said a search of the truck turned up 237 prescription pills.
"In the vehicle was a pipe used to smoke marijuana, a rolled up ten dollar bill with residue of a white substance and a pill crusher," said district attorney Bruce Castor. Castor also said the residue on the bill, tested positive for Valium. Reid apparently has a prescription for the Valium as well as all of the other pills found on him, except for one called vicodin. "The levels that are in the blood are, especially as it relates to amphetamines and Valium, beyond the therapeutic level we'd ordinarily expect," said Castor. What seemed to be the worse part of this tragic story for coach Andy Reid was that Britt turned towards the news cameras on his way into the courtroom and said "Hi Mom and Dad" in a very sarcastic tone. I know that Andy probably didn't get much time at home as an NFL assistant for many years and then as a Head Coach, but his kids are rebelling in a big way for it now. Perhaps? Britt Reid's older brother, 24-year-old Garrett, also is facing jail time for drug and traffic charges. Garrett Reid admitted using heroin the day he ran a red light and hit another car - the same day Britt Reid was arrested in the road-rage case. He faces a mandatory minimum of three days in jail. Coach Reid is known for his tireless work ethic and late nights at the office, which is why he has succeeded so well. Doug Robinson wrote in Dec. 2005 Those who know Reid describe him as a deep-thinking family man. Even when he was working those insane hours with the Packers, going to work at 3:30 a.m., he'd leave the office and race home to eat breakfast with his five children and see them off to school and then return to the office. He keeps a journal, he writes poetry and love notes to his wife, Tammy. Here's what kind of guy Reid is: He once gave his mother-in-law a pendant that read: "Best Mother-In-Law." A convert to the Mormon faith, he is active in his church and does frequent firesides. He goes to Scout camp in the summer with his boys and likes to make furniture and has restored an antique car. What hasn't been mentioned as much is their Mother Tammy and her role as a parent in the house. Granted, these kids are in their early twenties and need to take responsibility for their own actions. But, could they both have missed these early signs? The even stranger thing is, while in Philadelphia, Andy Reid has made it very clear that he only wants "good guys" in his locker room. In fact, he often passed as GM on free agents who had troubled pasts. What must current Eagles players think of that philosophy as they hear the news about Reid's sons that's been released lately? How will it effect his game preporation for NFL opening day in Green Bay knowing one of his children is sitting hundreds of miles away in a Jail cell? 1 Comment On: "Andy Reid's Son Britt...aka The New Keith Richards?"
