BREAKING: RAIDERS FOR SALE

In the midst of an extravagant off-season spree ($52.5m for Tommy Kelly?), 10 reels of Raiders game film from the early 1960s are getting sold on eBay, along with a pile of Al Davis "autographs" apparently attached to canceled paychecks issued to the likes of Ken Stabler and Ted Hendricks. This is the second wave of Raiders relics to hit eBay in the last month. But, as it turns out, the Raiders' Dark Overlord isn't making a dime. We first heard about the auction in April, from a post on fansinblack.com that claimed to have the inside scoop: "The seller purchased a storage shed that had a lean [sic] on it for unpaid rent. It turns out, the renters were the Raiders … Inside the shed, he found THIRTY_EIGHT BOXES of Raiders history. Canceled checks to players and coaches, contracts, photos. and FILM,FILM, FILM! Game film of the earliest Raider games in the 1960-1965 area, as well as the 70s and 80s. He has not gone through all the boxes yet, so there may be many more treasures to come." So the Master of Mayhem keeps a storage unit? Let your mind play with that idea for a minute. We did, and it made our skin crawl. But if Al Davis really does keep Art Shell's mojo in a mason jar, it hasn't shown up on eBay. Neither has the Marcus Allen voodoo doll. By the time we clicked over, even the canceled checks had been removed, leaving several reels of coaching film—the kind of thing Matt Walsh might have produced if he was 30 years older—described as part of an estate sale.

lol wait till tommy see's this i bet he would love to buy some of that he might just spill his cofee over the headline lol

he for sure, will lol!!!!

Now thats funny - Al Davis and the Raiders have fallen off - from a top organization.....to not paying rent - WOW!

Wow......this is really bazaar. The Raiders can affored to pay McFadden and all of those guys millions of dollars and then they just let this stuff go? In the words of Dr. Phil...........Al, what were you thinking?

they took the link down to the auction site, i am trying to find it now, i would never let history like this go!!!

Somebody dropped the ball on this one, for sure. Bad thing is, someone is going to make a lot of money on it if it's still up for sale. Of course, storage units sometimes get forgotten about in the shuffle of things, so that's probably what happened. The Raiders should have kept the stuff in a more secure place anyway. I have a ton of NFL memorabilia and I can say that I would be very upset if I lost it because of a crazy thing like this.

i'm here and i almost did spill my coffee and who ever is thumbin this down read it before you do that
anyway girlie did you find the link yet i'd love to see this history lemme know

seems to happen alot on here huh. anyway i got a list of some of that stuff tommy i'll dial ya in a bit if you log in and see this

sweet bro

i know where chucks is at too damn girlie alright holla at me when you can

My wife is an old Raiders fan. She would love to get her hands on some of that stuff.

so would i for sure i hope she gets back online soon lol i'm out

I'm really diggin' your wife, FIVE, being an old Raiders fan myself (her being a bit feisty makes me a fan, as well). The question is how much could it have actually cost to keep payment up on the storage unit in comparison to how much will be made off of its contents? I think "dropped the ball" is an understatement.

That's true. Dropped the ball might just be an understatement. My wife used to hang out with a couple of old Raiders. Dated one of them for a while and she can probably tell some good stories or write a book.........LOL We just talked to him the last time we were out in S.F.

I dated a Raider. Do you think your wife is me, with a split personality?

Maybe so. Can't name names or she would get in trouble as well as me.

Are you crazy? Never names! HA HA!

It's strange that this stuff in a sense got out. I would love to have this stuff as well. Someone will be lucky to have it. Good post.

That's true. Could there be other teams out there with storage units full of stuff like this?

You got me with that headline, ck!
Lemme know if you find the auction back up. i would lovvve to take a look at some of it.

they took it down chicka :(

I'm a member of the website they mention in the article, FANSINBLACK.COM, and one of the posters there, actually the one that found out about the auction in the first place bought a bunch of the old tapes so they may not even be available anymore.

GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!! that rocks!!!! well then congrats to him, cuz the page is long gone now !!!

dang. i wouldn't imagine they would stick around very long.
i would be curious to know what the winning bids are on something like that. lucky guy.

i'll try to find out, i'll be around later chicka!! i'll drop u an emal :)!!

Hey GSW, I'll let you know here pretty soon. I know that some of the older tapes like the 1960 game tape of the Raiders vs Oilers, which from what I understand was the first Raider game ever played sold for more than $200. He said the quality was really good. He had also mentioned something about copying them to DVD's, so if some of you are interested I'll what I can do. I'll keep you all posted.

That's not too bad. Well - I'm glad that it went to someone that is willing to share.
Keep me posted on the copy. I would love to have that. Thanks for the info.

WHAT?????!!!! (too flabbergasted to say any more)
