Brian Dawkins Gets No Respect

USA Today continued their columns of comparing today's best versus the best of the Super Bowl Era and Brian Dawkins was ranked #5 in today's ranking of safeties. The ranking seems a bit low for Dawkins' many accomplishments as an Eagle. Ranking above Dawkins on the list are: 1 - Ed Reed 2 - Bob Sanders 3 - Troy Polamalu 4 - Darren Sharper One can understand Reed being ranked higher, as Reed has achieved individual and team success. But Sanders and Polamalu have not yet built the career resume that accompanies Dawkins. Though the stats for Sharper are outstanding, his defensive units have not acheived the level that Dawkins has carried the Eagles to. Here's to Dawkins proving them wrong in 2008.

he aint got no ring

agree

Neither does Sharper, but him and Dawkins would still be taken over the majority of safties that have ordered a ring in the 10 years

Bullsh#t

i think he gets a lot of respect actually and i wouldnt say it isnt fair to have him at 5 because last year he was hurt and the past two seasons havent been spectacular for him. if it were me, i'd probably have him at 2 or 3, but i'm not mad he's ranked where he is...let's just hope that he bounces right back on those bitches this season!

I got to agree with whoever wrote this post, for years they have been overlooking what Dawkins has done for the game. He changed the safety position and paved the way for guys like Polamalu & Sanders. He showed that a safety that can cover & play close to the line is a valuble part of a aggressive defense. The players listed ahead of him, are great playmakers, as far as the best of the Super Bowl era, they have to do alot more to even come close to Weapon X!

polamalu and sharper are they crazy!! even now Dawks is better then those two and in his prime forget about it Dawk is the man!

true and when dawkins does that cool flying tackle he does. the commentators think its unnecessary.

key words: TODAYS RANKINGS. u gotta admit hes not wat he used to be

true, but sharper ahead of him?

yeah the active interception leader with 53 interceptions is ahead of Brian Dawkins. Darren Sharper is a better total player than Brian Dawkins, and I don't want to hear from a biased Eagle fan who has never seen Sharper play.

Sharper has been to the Pro Bowl 4 times, 1st team all pro once. Dawkins is a six-time Pro Bowler and a four-time first-team all pro. Looks Dawkins has the better individual honors.

Agreed. Dawkins may have more Pro Bowls and been a first-team player more frequently, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather have Sharper. I've seen both play my fair share over the past few years, and if I'm taking them RIGHT NOW, Sharper hands down. However, ask me few years ago, it's a close call.

I've seen him play and their style is different as well as the defensive schemes. Dawkins has more tackles sharper has more picks. But does Sharper have a td reception, a fumble for touchdown, an interception, tackles, and a sack in one game.

Dawk is at 5 cause he was injured last year. Didnt they draft a rookie thats gonna replace him soon thats why Sharpher is 5 because he done it for so long at a high level and had a better season last year.

Dawkins should be 2 behind Ed Reed who is insane....im a Giants fan as well..Dawkins is awesome to watch, an amazing safety and I guess winning Super Bowls is justifying the picks but where is underrated Safety Gibril Wilson then. Darren Sharper just is at the right time right place to be honest with his interceptions but still a solid safety. nice pic that wasnt last year cuz tim carter wasnt on the giants...

Dawks was last because of injures he will be back up there in no time ED and Bob are beats though

I personally think Dawkins is not only one of the best safeties, but I think he may be the best Eagle to play the game. In years he had been written off, he's gone to the Pro Bowl. He can cover and hit. He brings leadership and passion to the game. He runs the secondary on the field. He also does a lot for the community. One thing he does (and I don't know if other safeties in the league do) that I truly respect is get on the radio and discuss the game honestly after every game.

Good Point

Dawkins is THE MAN why do you think so many fans love him....including me.......he is a great athlete, and a great role model for kids...........we Eagle fans know who's the best dont we.............hey Dawk see you next march on the cruise Gonna be a great time

I understand why people don't like giving Dawks the respect he deserves. Jst cuz he was hurt last year that doesnt mean that that drops him down in the rankings to fifth BS... FLY HIGH BIRDS.
