Cutler diagnosed with diabetes

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, his business manager Marty Garafalo confirmed Thursday night.

The 25-year-old Cutler found out about two weeks ago that he was diabetic and needed daily insulin injections, Garafalo told The Associated Press.

He said Cutler was managing his disease and "in no way is his football career jeopardized."

Some 21 million Americans have diabetes, meaning their bodies cannot properly turn blood sugar into energy. Either they don't produce enough insulin or don't use it correctly. With the Type 1 form, the body's immune system attacks insulin-producing pancreatic cells, so that patients require insulin injections to survive.

"It's something that he's dealing with and something a lot of other people have," Garafalo said. "Even though it's a serious condition, it's a condition that can be managed. That's the way he's treating it right now.

"Everything's fine," Garafalo continued. "His condition is fine."

and this article would be correct, he's going to be FINE......i know alot about Diabetes and trust me it's not going to affect his playing at all. as long as he follows what the doctors say & takes his insulin!!! PROPS to him for telling the world, some would try to hide it!!!

yup some would try to hide it thumbs up to him for coming foward and disclosing it. you're right too, it won't effect (affect) him at all as long as he takes his med and does what the doc says

Nice work, ck. This could provide some pretty interesting articles/interviews later. This is something that is prevalent in my family, so I will be interested in watching how he handles it from here on out.

mine 2, cowboywins!!!
he will handle it like the baller he is, his 1st step was in coming forward !!!

Wow! You never know.

no u really don't sportsnorts!!!

Good article. He should still be able to function well. Just a nuisance to have something like this , much less at a young age.

agreed, as long as he takes his insulin and follows his diet he should have no problem. the physical energy he will lose on the field playing, can be helped with the proper supplements from his doctor. my mother had diabetes and lived to a ripe old age and with no problems at all!!! she was in her teens when she found out she had it, and i can tell u, she never missed a step......diet, insulin and the doc!!! good for him for letting the world know ~ this could even turn into a "life after ball" thing for him, IE speaking engagements, maybe to kids with the "disease" know what i mean, always a positive side to everything!!!

good for her... all it takes is the will to never quit! life is to short so give your all in everything you do! i hope with proper guidance he is able to play as long as he would without the diease! what am i saying he'll be fine! great read!!!

My mom and grandma also have diabetes (granny is almost 85). Sure, having to check your blood sugar a few times a day is probably a pain (no pun inteneded), but with the right diet and doc (like Ck said) you will be fine. Good read! :)

Hello ck0712, I'm adding you as a fan :D
Just a question: How do you know so much about the Eagles? You are just a big fan or you work with somethin related? hahaha (curiosity ok)

i'm just a fan ~

Rabid fan.......LOL.

As a Broncos fan, I hope Jay will be fine most importantly, and then play good as well

TC i just did the follow up to this, peace!!!
