Did Patrick Crayton Lie on the Michael Irvin Show?

With 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Dallas Cowboys were losing to the Giants by four points. The Cowboys were on the 23 yard line. The ball was snapped and within three seconds Tony Romo threw a pass to Patrick Crayton. The pass was about a yard out of Crayton's reach. So close. But on the replay, you see Crayton hesitating to run the full route. He stops for a split second. If he doesn't do that, the pass very well could have been completed and the game is over.

Crayton, who pretty much guaranteed the Cowboys would win, avoided talking to the press until today on the Michael Irvin Show. He was asked about that route and if it was intended to be a "9 route."

"No it wasn't. It was actually a seven route that I kind of adjusted. I didn't think I was going to be able to get on the corner ( Corey Webster) quite as easily, on top of him. A seven route is about a 16-17 yard out route. As I got on top of him, I was able to get his arm down, and I got on top of him and I was like 'should I break out and let him sit underneath or go ahead and go?' That slight hesitation cost me that extra yard I probably needed."

Now, let's watch the video of that play:

It doesn't even matter because if he had not have dropped a perfectly thrown ball earlier in the game, they would not have been in that situation.

If this dude practiced as much as he talked, we wouldn't even be talkin on this situation.

hes the reason dallas lost

He's pretty much wuffless. Poor guy could've be the NFC version of Wes Welker

Sure looks like a 9 to me all the way, but certainly not a 7.

Actually, he pushes off of Webster right when he would be making his post cut in a 7. I can't understand why he pulled up after that unless he thought he had earned a flag (he didn't) or that Romo was getting hit so quickly at that point in the game that the ball was already out.

Patrick Crayton's definitely in the running for douchebag of the year. He talks so much for a 3rd receiver, remember what he said about the Patriots and "we'll see them IF they get to Arizona." And then not talking to the press after he had a couple key drops -- what a loser.

Plus he's only kind of the third receiver. They seem to like Sam Hurd when he's healthy.

If that were true, then he slowed down an wasn't ready to break into the out cleanly. He looked confused. It would've been a sloppy route. On a clean run route, he's open for the out, Webster couldn't sit on it, and Crayton had separation. That ball was in the air when he slowed up. Either way, he screwed up

Yeah man, he def stutter-stepped, looks like he woulda snagged it.. ohh so sad for Dallas isnt it...

it happens often, you misinterpret where the ball is gonna land and you think its actually closer when its farther maybe due to the wind or other factors, im not giving him excuses but it can easily happen.

heat of the moment, maybe it was an option route or something, or maybe he screwed up the route. We will never know...

patrick crayton is a pos

i think Crayton is a quality reciever.

crayton is ok but like so many of the other teams and players can't keep thier mouths shut. I don't get why all these players run thier mouthes when they have proven nothing in the league. Well they can reflect on that while they watch the final four teams battle it out for a ring. GO PATS!!!!

did you watch the video? It was a simple WR mistake, the QB anticipated one route and he ran another. I am no Cowboys fan, thats obvious, but plays like this happen in every NFL game. Most times though, a season doesnt hang in the balance.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT CLIP YOU WERE WATCHING, BUT WEBSTER HAD GOOD COVERAGE ON HIM. YOU'RE FORGETTING, THAT STUTTER STEP CRAYTON TOOK FROZE WEBSTER WHICH GAVE HIM THE EXTRA YARD. IF CRAYTON WOULD'VE RAN THROUGH THEN WEBSTER WOULD BROKEN THE PASS UP AND MAY HAVE INTERCEPTED IT BECAUSE HE HAD INSIDE COVERAGE.

Good point, after watching it again, i see what u mean

To all my Dallas Cowboy fans around the country. I don't here anyone talking anymore. All I heard from Cowboy fans leading up until this game was how bad the Giants were gonna get beat. Well I'm pretty sure Eli Manning put his own foot inside your mouths along with Patrick Crayton who is a nobody in the NFL and played a major role in there loss. Now onto the overrated Tony Romo who is the next Brett Favre? You gotta be kiddin me everyone hyped this guy up so bad it's almost comical. Look at his last 4 games and tell me this guy isn't overrated. 11 yes 11 pro bowlers? Where the heck were they in the game on Sunday? Well I'll leave it at that so grab your popcorn all my Cowboy fans and enjoy the show on Sunday as you cry along with TO about your season being over and tell your CHOKE ARTIST Quarterback that there's always next year. BALLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH! Well it's just a game you win some and you lose some Patrick Crayton gave it his all, but I could have gave him more.....................I just love and admire Mr. Crayton he can make as many mistakes on the Football field as long they are not in the bedroom..................
