Draft has come and gone, but it's not too late for these moves

The draft is over but many personnel issues remain on the table for a number of teams and players. There are trades that didn't happen but still might. There may be some scary holes that still need to be repaired. Drafting decisions have shed some new light on just how some franchises view the players they have (or had) on their rosters. Of course, the work is not over.

There is anxiety among fans when their teams pass on players of need, don't trade for the guy they wanted to fill out the roster, or in some cases moved up for players that made them scratch their heads. The phone lines during my four-hour radio show the day after the draft were packed with callers wanting to know more about the decisions made over the weekend.

There is still time to get a number of things accomplished before training camp. Keep in mind that after every team has its post-draft minicamp, there will be another personnel evaluation of the roster and clubs could get proactive in the acquisition of more talent (as well as the dumping of some players).

he's right about lito and philly doin the nickel plays

Yea, I think that lito WILL NOT be traded unless they get a breathtaking offer... Defense wins championships. good article

there's alot in that article that hits home!!!

If Baskett comes back from the "dead" and Avant improve (and perhaps another big bodied UFA WR). I don't see an immediate need to trade Lito. As it is, our defense looks to be juiced. And our special teams will be infinitely better with DeSean. We lost 5 games by 4 points or less. Field position, better defense, a healthy McNabb/L.J. Smith and better production in the red zone= Deep playoff run and perhaps winning the SUPERBOWL. :)

And if the lousy Pats make it to the bowl again, we have the best secondary in the NFL to cover Moss/Welker and co. Can't wait for the season to start!

You better hope Samuel plays better for you than he did us last year. His numbers were way down and he didn't show up in the Super Bowl. He got abused in more than one game for us last year. You still need a quarterback. We know from experience how McNabb plays in the Super Bowl and it wasn't pretty. Pats and Cowboys.

hahaha u lousy piece of crap pats fan shut up...Samuel played very well in the SB game n yeah he could of picked off that catch but u lousy ass fans have no class and are blaming him for the SB cs u dont have him no more... u guys should be worrying about who ur cornerbacks are now...Hobbs-Joke, Bryant-OLD...While the eagles have sheppard, brown and samuel the best tandem and trio in the league...

I never blamed Samuel for the Super Bowl you idiot. Most of the Patriots played terrible. I give the Giants all the credit in the world. They outplayed us from the beginning to the end. In fact the game shouldn't have been that close. I can't complain because I've watched my team win three Suerbowls and two of them on the fiinal play in arguably the two greatest superbowls ever. The Rams and Carolina. I watched every minute of every Patriots game last year and Samuel was not the player he has been in previous years. You should have traded McNabb when you had the chance because he will never make it to the end of the season because of injuries. Sorry to disappoint you on Asante and your dreams of a superbowl. If this was Randy Moss we were talking about it would be a different story.I wonder why he didn't want to go to Philly when they offered him millions more. Two words. Donovan McNabb.

Don't ever forget who ruined your Super Bowl parade.HA HA HA! It was a great time in Boston. That's three and how many for you? That's what I thought. You tortured Philly fans are all the same.

yep, i guess we are all the same...All boston or pats fans are all the same...Thinking they are better then every1 else...Samuel wasnt better then years b4??? His best year he had 10 int's..This year he had 6 int's and correct me if im wrong but 2 int's in the playoffs...You pats fans are all bandwagon fans and don't know shit about sports...MOST Patriots fans, probably u aswell, were blaming samuel 4 the game when he played a great game n ellis hobbs let up the TD at the end...I dont blame randy moss 4 staying in new england..He's made his money know he thinks the best way is to stay with a guy that through 20 plus TD's to him...He doesnt need a million dollars more a year...Your definitely one of the Pat fans that give a bad name to ur rep...In philly we get a bad rep 4 our actions to opposing fans, but every analysist in the world knows our love and knowledge for our sports unlike u dumbasses...Have a good day!!

How can you say that Asante's numbers didn't go down last year? He had six interceptions and 46 tackles in 2007 in which he played all 16 games. In 2006 he had ten interceptions and 65 tackles in only fifteen games. It's not rocket science. He didn't play as well in 2007 as he did in previous years. He also got beat way too many times. I have never heard one Patriot fan blame him for the Super Bowl loss. Why would we? It wasn't his fault. We drafted a very similar cornerback in the draft who is the talk of mini camp. Hopefully he can bring to the Pats what Asante did in his rookie season. I would never put Asante Samuel in Champ Bailey's class. Now that is someone you just don't throw around.

Also jayso u got to remember that just like when champ bailey got very good and elite QB's starting throwing less and less at them...The same with samuel..I think any team in the world would love a guy with 6 int's in a season... So now that asante has Sheldon brown and Lito sheppard on the other side of him I think the opposing QB's are going to have a tough time choosing who to throw too...And maybe not u, but there were plenty of Pat's fans saying u can have samuel he lost the super bowl 4 us...If samuel caught that last INT he would been paid even more money so im kinda glad he didnt..Peace

Nice post FLYiGGLeSFLY. We'll miss him and he's a big pickup for you . Asante was loved by most New Englanders. I don't know who thinks he had anything to do with the Super Bowl loss. That's new to me but I enjoyed discussing the topic with you. Take Care!
