His was nervous laughter, no doubt born of the furor he caused with the much maligned "gold standard" sound bite from a few years ago. Jeffrey Lurie wasn't looking for a headline, nothing that would pop and be circulated across the NFL.
The question to the Eagles' owner was simple: Are the Eagles, after their off-season acquisitions and general good health, going to be a Super Bowl-caliber team in 2008? The answer, a day before the Birds broke their last minicamp, was circular at best.
"I don't want to say a headline, This is a Super Bowl-caliber team," Lurie said, standing on the Eagles practice field after the team's workout on Wednesday. "That's not a good thing to say.
"It's irrelevant what I think, but I do think if you can be healthy enough and have the guys emerge that you think can emerge, and have the acquisitions play out the way you think they should - I think the chemistry's great, the coaching is great, and the athleticism is a huge upgrade.
