Getting ready for the big game

I'm on the plane trying stay calm because I feel like I wanna go rip somebody's head off. I can't think of nothing that I would rather be doing than playing football on Sunday. This will be a fun game. The stage is set - we are the underdogs going into a hostile environment where no one expects us to win except us.

Everywhere you turn it's "there is no way the Chargers can do it","they're in over the heads", "they are lucky to even be on the same field as the Colts". That's the kind of stuff that makes the game more fun and exciting.

I think the game will come down to defense. It's all about whose D plays the best. We are not expecting to see number 18 throw 6 interceptions again, though it would be great if that could happen again. The fact of the matter is we have to play 60 min of football in order to beat this team and me and the guys are all fired up. The hard part right now is relaxing and bottling up all of our energy so we can let it all out on Sunday.

Talk to you guys next week.

you gonna get a chance to visit Purdue while your back in indiana?

Good luck on sunday SP!

Why the media fails to mention our starters that weren't there the first time around this year is beyond me. Hardwick, Jammer, did Merriman even play? Embrace the hate. I guess the world forgot about the most talented team in the nfl, and how fast you guys are especially on turf, I'll be watching you guys remind the hell out of em'.

I, for one, believe you guys have it in you to succeed.

Best luck to you Shaun!

I'm know you can beat the Colts, Shaun. You beat them once and you can beat them again. If you and the Chargers D can do what you did in week 10 vs the Colts you will definitly win. I'll be rooting 4 ya Shaun.

SUCH a sick photo! how are you going to prepare tomorrow? going to watch some other playoff games or just study colts tape? or neither?

Shaun - Baltimore Ravens Fan here. I'm pulling for you guys. I loved that horseshoe years ago, when they belonged to us. But now - I hate the way the NFL shows Manning sooo much favoritism. Watch for the flags, if you guys get the lead late!!! Good Luck to the Bolts - Beat them Colts!!!

Good luck. I hope you snot-bubble peyton.

I know you're not going to say it, Shaun, so let me say it for you:

The Colts Offense is going to have nightmares tinted Charger Blue for a very, very long time.

Get out there and shock the world, baby. Shock the world. San Diego knows you can do it.

I can't wait for this game!
I couldn't even begin to imagine what you guys are feeling right now.

Good luck to you and the team on Sunday!

Think you guys can control the Colts' offense? You know LT will run on them, or he should. This game comes down to how well your unit can control 18. Your right 18 probably wont throw 6 picks.

Go get 'em Shaun! Go get 'em Bolts!
Pressure, pressure, pressure... that's the key to winning the game. Force Manning to make mistakes and choke under pressure... now THAT sounds like the Peyton Manning we all know best!
As far as keeping their defense on the field... if Gates can't play on Sunday, we'll need to run more trick plays in the passing game. They'll focus on containing LT by stacking 8/9 in the box, and Sanders & their DBs will try to double-team Chambers, who is more of a threat in the passing game than VJ. Some quick pitch-outs to LT and play action fakes should keep them guessing. And quit running LT up the middle on every 1st & 2nd down, Norv!! Utilize MT more often in the 2nd half and give him more carries too! We saw what happened the last time we played the Colts in Indy... MT ran over them for 83 yards to seal the deal! Let's try to do it again!
GO BOLTS!!! ZAP THE COLTS!!!

OK everyone, repeat after me, "GOOOO BLUE!!!

hey i hope you hae a good game but I am a Colts fan. So go Colts!

GO CHARGERS!!!! AND JAGUARS!!!!
GO COWBOYS!!!!! AND SEAHAWKS!!!!

Going to be an epic game and I can't wait for Sunday. Hope to see you blogging more often SP!

GO CHARGERS!

I beleive you guys can pull it off. Just stay focused and mae sure you take Mannings damn head off SP! !!!

Shaun, I am certainly positive that if every Charger had the same mental attitude, outlook, and stability you display on a daily basis that we would have a chance to win every game. You are a leader on this defense and a winner and I thank you for that.

It is unfortunate that we have been underestimated all season after our 1-3 start. This game is a statement game. And by the way, which I am sure you are aware of, the national media pisses all of us off also. Thanks for the intensity and focus, and you and the rest of the team have a great and memorable game!!! Go Bolts!!!

"RELEASE THE SHAUN's/SHAWNE's!!!!!"
I hope you lay the wood on Peyton and crew. I'm not talking about oak or mahogany, but rather that Red WOOD National Forrest stuff. That's right. I'm talking about some HUGE Sequoia tree wood! Colts can't handle the BOLTS~!

Good luck. Im a colts fan but I like you because we both have the same last names. Phillips

After 45 years of waiting I am confident you guys can beat the Colts. We believe in you guys, bring home the victory!

Good luck Shaun. I hope you make Manning feel like he shouldn't even have come to the RCA dome. Prove the analysts and media wrong by playing smash mouth football. Show them that one playoff win is not good enough and that you guys want it all!

This WILL come down to defense. The Bolts defense must dictate what the offense does & make them uncomfortable. When 18 is uncomfortable, he makes mistakes. And since 18 isn't known for his scrambling ability, much less his ability to throw on the run, that means pressuring up the middle.

You guys have done it before against a 13-0 Colts team in their house. Don't let the pundits fool you. This Colts team is no better. You can do it again.

Best of luck, Shaun.

HEY SHAUN I AM A REALLY BIG FAN I ONLY HAVE IGORS OLSHANSKYS AUTOGRAGH I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I COULD GET YOURS LET ME KNOW MAN THANKS
BOLTS1904

CONGRATULATIONS!

I guess we will hear from you next week!!

Way to get your hand on the ball on the 3rd and goal play in the 4th quarter !! Tipped the ball and helped put the DOLTS in a bad position !! GREAT DEFENSE !! AWESOME WIN !!! Now go beat the PATS !!! GO BOLTS !!!

Great game. Looking forward to your post-game post. What a day in San Diego. The cheers on that last 4th down stop echoed through neighborhoods city wide.

Damn, dude... YOU GOT GAME!

Great tipped pass, and way to knock Fletcher's helmet off.

Hell yeah Shaun!!!!!! Nice stick there in the 1st quarter. Two more wins baby Two More!!!!

Great game! I knew you guys could do it!

GO BOLTS!!!!

Shaun, Great game! Tippin' passes and tackling Colts all over! Monster of a game against the Titans! I haven't watched the game again yet but I'm sure I'll see your contrabutions all over the place. Outstanding victory!! Please thump the Patsies Sunday and get back to the SB. Hope to see you bowling alot the next few weeks. Bo Bolts!

Nice game, Shaun. The Gaslamp was blowin' up yesterday! East Village Tavern especially....

Love you guys man; you've made this lifelong Bolts fan so happy! Now two more steps to the top of the mountain baby, I know you can do it!!!

I think the right tackle for the Colts tried ripping your head off in the second half. I noticed the running back kept helping the right tackle by chipping you during the shot gun formation.

STRATEGY REQUEST:
1. I think you should cover the running back and have Shaun Merriman blitz from the other side, or blitz the middle linebacker between the right tackle and right guard. Then do the opposite if the back moves to the otherside of the shot gun quarterback. New England is weak stoping the blitz in the middle.

2. Play bump-n-run on the receivers and be very physical with Moss. Cromartie and Moss is a good matchup for the Chargers. Have the safety hit Moss everytime the ball goes his direction. A couple 15 yard penalties is worth it. Just don't do it on 3rd and long plays.

3. Run the ball 70 percent of the time and DON'T run at Wilfork and Seymour.

4. Rodney Harrison will start to cheat in the box. Do a lot of play action and rollouts to the tightend, running away from Harrison.

5. The key is to keep the New England defense on the field, because they can be worn down. I'd rather you go for it on 4th and short in the redzone than kick a field-goal. The more plays you run against New England's defense will payoff in the 4th quarter.

6. Your defense needs 3 and outs, so that New England defense can go back on the field.

yo Shaun, thanks for writing. WE BELIEVE the team can win tomorrow. Good luck.

Good game SP, I'm sure it stings you more than me, but I am very happy for the Chargers success this year and proud to be a Chargers fan. I am looking forward to a great off-season, we are well below the cap and should be able to secure our squad. I was hoping to say this in a few weeks, but have a relaxing off-season and can't wait to see you in the summer.
