Honor the contract Plaxico!

Plaxico Burress has told the New York Giants that he will not work out until they renegotiate his contract. Plaxico has three years remaining on his current deal, but now wants more guaranteed money. Can someone please tell this guy to man-up and honor his contract? I hate these BS antics that football players pull every year. If you want to have a new contract every year, SIGN A ONE YEAR DEAL! They all want the comfort and stability that a long term deal provides, but then, when they post numbers that they are unlikely to post ever again, they want more. What happens when they put out a poor season? Should the owner be able to go back and say, "Well you weren't really worth that signing bonus, so I need some of it back?"

Honor your contract and shut the hell up!

i'd say let him not participate. He isn't worth a new deal, especially at his age.

Thanks for the comment, no arguement. At his age, he is lucky to have three years left on his contract as it is.

this is why NE stayed on top for so long.... the players there kept their contracts, stayed together as a TEAM and have enjoyed enough success together, enough to more than make up for the smaller contracts.
when the heck are the rest of the NFL players going to realize this?

True, no beef with NE's ability to preach that this is actually a team sport. These guys are no starving and for the most part make some ridiculous money. You agree to a contract, you honor it.... 'nough said.

yeah and think of the additional money you make with winning SBs or at least having a consistently winning team... endorsements are golden

for one its mini-camp, he's there the team says its his knee as the reason he's not practicing, so u know what plaxico might be shooting off at the mouth trying to position for a deal.

but regardless when training camp starts, u know plax will be there working out, he's got to big of an ego not to be out there proving them wrong for not giving an extension.

Nice post Justin! In some cases you will see the star player so to speak actually take a pay cut to win a championship. He needs to honor it.

AKA Randy Moss

Moss did it up there and Brady also. I think Manning did it too in Indy. That just shows where their heart is.

Moss never took a paycut...he signed a deal for less money. He did NOTHING to save the Pats any $$$

ahhh i love YB sometimes.

continued...

the above comment was in reference to this offseason. What he did in his trade from the Raider is nothng like what Brady or Peyton did. He did what he had to do to get out of NFL hell aka Oakland. He didnt take any money out of his pockets to give it to a teammate.

and if he didn't sign the new deal the Patriot's would be paying him more money, therefore saving cap room...

oh never mind, wrong offseason

Jerome Bettis also... and he won his finally because of it

Dtrik19 is right . Moss didn't take a paycut. He signed for millions less than what he was offered by the Eagles. Moss wanted nothing to do with McNabb and the money. He would rather have Tom Terrific and the ring. It's my understanding that the Eagles didn't sign a number one receiver in the off season. Nobody wants to go there. I think the Eagles are out of the playoffs this year also.

I don't actually think it was anti Eagle. if you set a TD record for receiving and almost went undefeated I think u would be inclined to stay with that team since the winning is nearly guaranteed.....and the money was comparible. why fix something that isn't broken?

Get ready for a lockout!!!! Until the double standard in relation to player contracts is eliminated...stuff like this is going to happen. Its not fair that a team can cut a player for whatever reason and only have to pay them the guaranteed money and we still expect them to honor their entire deals. Something will have to happen and it will have to happen soon or we'll have a strike.

The Giants first game last season was Sept 9. Their last one was Feb 3. If Plaxico worked 24 hours a day for that time period of less than five months, he would have made $1,150 per hour. Now I seriously doubt he worked 24 hours a day for that five month period. Lets say he worked half of the hours over that time period, that means he made $2,400. Disgusting. Burress WAS, and I put an emphasis on was, my favorite receiver in the league. Now I think he is a chump, just like all the other athletes that go back on their contract.

he deserves the money though. hes averaged 9 TD's and over 1000 yards the past 3 seasons. If a player signs a contract and under performs, the FO tears up the contract. When a player out performs the contract, he should be allowed to tear it up and get a new one. I agree that NFL players earn far 2 much, as well as most professional athletes, but compared to other WRs with the same ability as Plax, he is underpaid.

I don't disagree with you here. As far as the NFL is concerned, Plax is underpaid. The problem is that he signed the deal that underpaid him. Take it as a lesson learned and play out the contract.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. Please check out my other articles and comment if you like.

always hated suxico anyway!!!! he's a cry baby and i hope they keep him at his current contract!!!! if the ref's would start calling offensive pass interference on his little push off move once in awhile he wouldn't score 5 td's a year!!

Pay Plax! I'm open to renegotiating because there isn't much comfort or stability in long term contracts in the NFL. There's no guarantee that teams will honor the contract so if teams can cancel contracts they open themselves up to this.

And I'm not too worried about him missing a few days of camp. He only practiced once last year because of that ankle and he produced.

plax is an essential part of the giants offense. i dont agree with wat he is doing...i think he should be honoring his contract. on the other hand, with the league being as competitive as it is, we need to take advantage of the team we have NOW. Right now the offense is strong, but without plax itll be mediocre at best. Hes elis favorite target and he creates so many opportunities for every other player on the offense. Hes a necessity and if it comes down to it...pay the man
