NY Giants Offensive Preview
I agree with this blogger (great writeup on NY's offensive prospects) that the Giants O should continue to get better in '06. Head coach Tom Coughlin, offensive coordinator John Hufnagel and QB Eli Manning are all entering their third season with the team. NY is returning all five of their offensive lineman and Plaxico should continue to develop into Coughlin's number one receiver with help on the outside from Toomer and rookie Moss. On top of all this, the defensive unit should be in better shape than it was last year when they were plucking linebackers off the street due to injury. This means more opportunities and time on the field for an already potent offense.
The Giants biggest weakness is probably at backup running back. Both backups, Brandon Jacobs (irregular heartbeat) and Derrick Ward (broken hand) aren't practicing at the moment and neither helps the offense in the passing game should they be called on for full-time duty in the regular season. Tiki is coming off a career high 357 carries and at the age of 31, there's no telling how his body will respond. He makes the Giants tick and his absence from the lineup would drastically reduce the effectiveness of each offensive player and the unit as a whole.
