Not so Giant Champions

Let me just say that there is not justice if a team with 6 times as many losses as the "runner-up" team can be crowned Champion so quickly and so absolutely. Couple that win/loss element with the fact that the team you beat to earn the status of Champion has beat you as many times as you've beaten them. Don't get it twisted, I'm not an Eli Manning hater, I accept that he is now as Unstoppable as the Citizen watch he sports. Also, I'm not a New England Patriot apologist, because I do recognize that they had more than enough opportunities to win this particular game if they wanted to Leave it all on the field. I just recognize that when a championship system can place 100% emphasis on a SINGLE game, and ignore perpetual dominance in the favor of the relatively bright shining light cast by a team who's only perpetual quality is inconsistence, that it is a questionable (if not flawed) system.

But I get the corporate and commercial capitalization of the Super Bowl as a concept, and I understand this will never change, one can't expect the NFL to make any adjustments to their tradition laden cash cow. What it really boils down to is that maybe I just think it's unfortunate that so many people cognitively accept what the NFL needs them to believe: that is that the Super Bowl is greater than the sum of it's parts, even if some of the parts that it is the sum of resoundingly point to a different conclusion:

The '07 - '08 Giants are NOWHERE near as good as the '07 - '08 Patriots. The '08 Giants are as good as the '08 Patriots. And only the February 3rd '08 Giants @ 645pm PST were better than the Patriots of said designated time... and even then, by the slimmest of margins.

Your failure to recognize the playoff games preceding the "BOWL" shows a lack of understanding. The Patriots were and are a great team. Their accomplishments in 07 are historic. But a grat majority of the stats that created this incredible year were done in the first 8-10 weeks of the season. the remainder of the season was "just good enough" and not the powerhouse team of the 1st half season.
the fact of the matter is that the Giants are simple the best football team of the playoffs. As a road team they overcame all odds and all critics and won. They beat the pants off the best beat in football on football's biggest stage. They are as good and possibly a better team it just depends when you you start you comparison

It is all or nothing that is the way it goes. I don't agree with 'gray's statement entirely, however, the Pats did not play well the second half of the season. Gray doesn't understand the level of athleticism it must take to push out big numbers and W's they way they did.

The reason why winning that many games is thought of as so great is because it is improbable!! The Pats are a great team, and the 'Team' part is the key. I think they lost steam in the final weeks. I still cannot get over Billecheck's play calling. I can't figure out why he did not have Gostowski kick when they were at the 30 and went for it instead with 12 yards to go. That will boggle me forever.

Gray-
YOUR lack of understanding comes when you say, "it just depends when you start your comparison"...
If that is the case, am I a better basketball player than Lebron or Kobe when they are taking a shit? If I started my comparison then, I suppose by your standards I would be, and I haven't picked up a ball since HS.
Point blank, the Pats played like dog shit. They didn't give it heart- and yes, I'm also boggled by the fact that they went for it, and didn't get an extra three to pad their "lead".
Anyone who actually BELIEVES that the super bowl is the end all be all defining element of a football teams worth is incompetent and shouldn't watch sports out of your own ignorance. It is a cash cow, and a marketing hooplah for us fat ass Americans to sit around, eat shitty food, and then be persuaded by the pseudo-funny ads about Doritos and cars to go out and be the shining capitalists we are.

Waaaaaa!!!
