Playoff Football

With this weekend's championship games approaching us, I think you have to start by congratulating the New York Giants and the San Diego Chargers for defying the odds. No one figured they had a chance to beat the #1 seeded Cowboys and the #2 seeded Colts. With that said I am prepared to see some inspired football this weekend not just by these two teams but by all four.

Focusing on the NFC title game, the Giants and the Packers have a lot to play for. When you talk about the Green Bay Packers it always starts with Brett Favre. Unlike in years past, though, the talk doesn't end there. The big story I feel you need to focus on is the emergence of all of the young talent. With that said, Brett has looked like the player of the past, having fun, laughing and joking again. Boy what winning can do for the confidence of a team.

Secondly the Giants are on a roll right now winning nine straight road game. Eli is playing with confidence, the defense is creating turnovers, special teams are doing a great job with field position and not giving up big plays. Steve Spagnuolo has the defense in the right spots at the right time. You can't help but notice the pressure the front 4 is putting on opposing QBs and the play of the LBs. The front seven seems to have continued to improve each week.

I look forward to the game despite the weather conditions. Weather will only be a factor for the losing team. The elements will affect each team the same throughout the game. The winner will be numb to the cold, looking to celebrate on the field regardless of the conditions. The losing team will want to get back to the locker room as quickly as possible.

One step at a time.......... You gotta do what you Gotta do

He Stays in Philly and Retires in Philly end of story....

AMEN!!!!!!

Make that TWO AMENS!!!

Yeah the elements will paly a big part in this , They both need a Dome ..LOL
Holla

Don't let up on that playmaker request either. Let the Front office know you serious about it. We gotcha back

Let the Front office know you serious about it. We gotcha back
HELL YEAH!!!!!

The only elements San Fran gets is Sunshine and Rain... Philly gets almost everything if any team needs a dome its the eagles but they play farely well in there turf so i dnt think its a problem plus if they get a dome than we dont get play makers LOL

i think you are forgetting soldier field and lambeau field.

i like being at games in bad weather, i wouldn't want a dome, and also david akers is terrible in domes.

D-mac I don't really know how you're feeling about being
in Philly and I don't want to know. One thing I do know is
we would love to have you in Detroit. We have Roy and
Megatron for you, the I-line is terrible but were working on
it. K Jones aint no Westbrook but we are working on his
replacement also. So if its any teams you thinking about
put us on the list, and you're closer to the Chi-Town.

Detroit, Hum lets see... Good Wide reciver's, but on the negative not one of them ever finishes a season. The offensive line there could possibly be the worse in the NFL. Running Game, Uhhhhhh! well they havent figured that one out yet. Defense, Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do we really need to even go down that road, but if you want a positive, you were better then Cinci. The bottom line is that Detroit is not a contender, has to work on providing an offensive line that can block before canning Kitna, needs a running back, needs to improve on their front seven on defense, and needs some play makers in the secondary. Mcnabb should be the least of your worries, you need serious help on that team, but hey this off season through the draft or free agency, go ahead draft another wide reciever, have big dreams of a qaurterback, but the bottom line is until you fix the real problems on your team, you can only dream of an 8-8 season or better.

As a fan of the game I will watch this weekend. However, my superbowl was last weekend when the Giants sent the Cowbells home crying. Wow! What a moment...

donovan i love you man.. keep up the good work

Dmac please dont pay attention to these idiots trying to get you to goto detroit and san fran or chicago. we luv you and need you in philly. football doesnt live in a dome people, football lives in weather torn stadiums glued together by the blood sweat and tears of the hero athletes that built them. In Philly we have Lincoln Financial because McNabb is amazing...there cant possibly be any argument there. We all hated T.O the ho but he did help me realize we need a WR to have a legit passing game. Westbrook is perfect but Dmac and Bwest are humans and they cant win every game on their own. McNabb please just talk privately with management to work on getting a proven WR to polish the O and win a few rings for you guys. Love ya in Philly!

U R NUMBER ONE is PHILLY'S BOOK!!!!!!!! it's not gonna be the same without the eagles, but next year WATCH OUT, 08 is the year!!!!!!!! thanks for always blogging here it is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

Love how you stay so even keel man, you're a true professional. Wish we had you in Minny, but you belong in Philli I know. Take care man, look forward to next season!

i'd like to see Giants vs.Chargers to be the crazy end to the '07 season.

ME 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love you Don (passionately supported you all year), but I will NEVER congratulate the Giants. Sorry.

they did beat the cowboys though...i guess you just have to decide which team you hate less

Donovan if u read this i want u to show people next year that your the best QB in the game. In when you do just smile in throw up a finger for that men in columbus Ga cheering for you ever week.

Don, I've been intensely on your side all season, but I will NEVER congratulate the Giants. Sorry.

(Didn't mean the double post)

Donovan,

I think that the weather brings up an interesting point. The fact that the NFL refuses to play the Super Bowl in a stadium like Lambeau. To me, seeing football in the elements, is the ultimate football experience. Football was meant to be played on real grass in whatever the elements the sky could conjure up. I would love to see a Super Bowl in the snow. Some of the greatest games in NFL history were played in the mud/rain, and snow. Watching the Super Bowl in an outdoor stadium would be much more interesting to me. Why did football become climate controlled? I feel as though a Super Bowl in the snow would draw lots of interest and excitement. I hope the NFL would reconsider their selections and give everyone a chance to host the Super Bowl, despite whether their stadium is a dome or open to the weather.

JD

D-Mac!

Donovan,

You're right about defying the odds. The Chargers started out same as us, 1-3, and then turned it around alot like we did in 2003-- That streak that started with #36 housing a punt against NY. The Chargers face a tough task though with Rivers battling the sprained knee. I'm sure you can relate to knee issues. Volek stepped in and moved the offense though, and you cant measure heart. So if LT plays his best game as a pro, and the defense mans up well, we could see a tight game, atleast until the half. It's just so hard to stop NE. We almost had them this year too...

The Giants definately impressed me in beating Dallas. I truly thought that that game was a Dallas wrap with or without "the player". But it looks like the Philly connection, with Steve running their D, ended up being a major factor in the Cowboys struggles. It was definately great to see those tears flowin....

I dont think we'll see any upsets this weekend though. I really believe this year was just set up to be the 18-0 Pats facing off with Brett's young warriors. It will be the SB of the decade, behind XXXIX of course.

We'll get back there. I'm excited to see you come out of that tunnel in Eagles colors next September. And I think I speak for atleast 75-80% of Eagles fans, maybe more. There are naysayers, but you know that. There are critics, but we're in Philly. You know the drill. The fans love you, regardless of what you hear. After you were drafted, we became a winner again. Nothing compares to that winning feeling you've brought to me and the city. It's indescribable. Please stick with us and finish your career in Philly, it's where you belong.

Have a good weekend, and enjoy the games.

--Birds in 08--

KEEP UP THE GOOD PLAY MCNBABB, THINGS ARE ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER HERE. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING #5 And LOOK FORWARD TO SEE YOU AND BIRDS BACK IN THE PLAYOFFS NEXT YEAR.

D-MAC,
I like the way you came out and said we need weapons. FINALLY its been said, the window cant be shutting for this TEAM. You might be the only hope for this CITY, plagued with teams that just seem not able to add the right pieces to the championship puzzel... Farve came out and said he wanted Moss.. Jeter came out and said he wanted A-Rod.. Ray Lewis said he wanted T.O. I'll give you credit as well for (T.O). But the point I guess im trying to make, come out with what you want, Publicly!! Whats the worst thing that could happen?? They get rid of you?? No way! and if they do, this city would turn on Reid and Banner quick... Balls in your court D-MAC!!! who do you want??

Donovan,
I really just want to say thanks for being an EAGLE. I know some people made it rough on you in the beginning, but you turned them around and gave us hope for a Super Bowl Championship. I hope one day that hope turns into a reality!!!!
By the way, just a silly question I'd like to see you address. How do you feel about the many names you are given on this site. i.e. #5, D-Mac, Don, McNabb, Donovan. I only ask because we, as fans, seem to assume you don't mind what we call you and just make up our own little names.

I never thought about the names we give him. I think I will call him Mr. McNabb from now on because he deserve the respect of being a mister in my book. Good man!

:)

there ya go fukediva, u r right !!

D-MAC D-MAC D-MAC D-MAC thats the cheers you'll here next year I'm so glad you asked for playmakers its about time someone spoke up You have to keep asking though you need and deserve playmakers

DNabb, that's what I will call you. Hey Man I have supported you since you came into the league and I have taken every bump along the way with you. I am sure I speak for many, we are riding with you. Keep up the great job your doing and stay healthy-everything else will come into place. It is your time, everyone else has weapons, you will get yours. I thank you for what you have done with what you have. Let all the haters continue to talk, just know we believe. KP

Dmac in my opinion next year is goin to b great for u and the eagles i kno u want playmakers nd everybody is making a big deal over it nd if u dont get any this offseason u still hav playmakers they were just hurt last season but if the keep fit throughout the 08 season then i think the eagles will finally bring that superbowl trophy home nd i think that next year u will hav more chemistry wit reggie and kevin nd hopefully the O-line will b better like it was in 06. Defenses couldnt even hang wit u wen ur less than 100% fit then i kno that Defenses r in for a long year in 08 so u keep on doin ur thing and just know that we believe in u nd we got ur back through good and bad times. shaq43

we do need play makers d-mac. I dont care what the front offices says. what you said in your last blog was not disrespectful to any of your teammates. you were the voice for all the fans. you are a true leader in your real fans eyes. keep up the good work. GO PACK

DONOVAN A BIG FAN HERE FROM DE NOW IN SO CAL KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU LOOKED LIKE YOUR OLD SELF LAST PART OF THE SEASON YEAH THE COLD WILL BE TOUGH THIS SUNDAY I'LL BE WATCHING THE GAMES IN T-SHIRT SHORTS AND FLIP FLOPS GOT TO LOVE SUNNY CAL. but my heart is with philly

thank you for all the great seasons with the eagles, even though we never got to win it all. Maybe you will be able to find success with your team next year. But once you get to that team, you will begin to realize all of the playmakers here that you have taken for granted.

You're always wanted here in Philly. The media hears ONE fan and turns it into all of them. The city is a fickle city, but that's how Philly is. REAL sports fans, REAL football fans, and REAL Philadelphia fans know that without #5 coming out every week, we're not the same team. When Jeff Garcia went in the offseason, it was good riddance. He did a hell of a job with our team, but I didn't want to hear a word of QB Controversy. Donovan's our QB. I wanted that to be clear so the media could keep quiet.
Then came Kolb. Then Feeley's game in NE. And sitting here with people around me who know NOTHING about this sport saying McNabb's gotta go, I snapped on so many people because of that. You're the reason we win, you're a hell of a leader, and you've gotten us into so many playoff games.
And I want to say another huge thank you... not only for being the playmaker you are, but for calling out to the Front Office and telling them we need a wideout. Curtis is phenominal. Brown is getting up there... and Avant and Baskett have play potential sometimes. But you're saying again what everyone in Philly has said for a while. We do need that kind of wideout threat we had when T.O. was here.
Oh, and P.S. while I'm speaking of Owens. Remember the 04 season, when, um T.O. got hurt? And didn't play in the playoffs? Who led us through the playoffs? Donovan McNabb.
We got to the Big Game on your shoulders, Donovan, and we in this city who know anything about football are so thankful. I bought another one of your jerseys in the midst of this season because my older one was getting worn. I know you'll be in midnight green next year. And I know you're gonna keep lighting it up, because that's what you do.

Donovan... First and foremost don't even think about Da Bears! You are an Eagle through and through!

i need to comment about your post on playmakers and just add to it! I'm writing the Playoff blog because its the most recent blog. Eagles fans... please don't shoot me for saying this... however, we need another T.O. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't of been happier to see him choked up and covering his tears with his aviators however when are we going to get a big time reciever to replace him. We don't need the attitude and we don't need the negative showmanship however we need a PLAYMAKER! Our offense relies on A. Donovan's health and B. Westbrooks legs. Although i'm very positive about Donovan staying healthy, the two can't do it on their own. Let's look at the past several years of Eagles football. They are a constant playoff team in the early 21st century. Making it consistently to the playoffs and NFC championship games. They then acquire Owens and dispite a late injury, all year the birds were rolling. They were rolling on the playmaking skills of the receivers and McNabb. T.O. provided the birds with a deep threat option, made him a decoy, and let Donovan use his incredible cannon week after week. Is it just ironic that the Eagles would make the Super Bowl the same season that they pick up Terrell? NO! They had everything working for them that season. Many would say, "yeah but they didn't win." No, they didn't win, but someone has to lose the big game. They just had to get there. Now that we are over that hurdle we need to get back there and win it. But how are we going to do that? We need to pick up a first string, starting wide reciever, whether it be through Free Agency or a trade. We need a Chad Johnson or Randy Moss. And after we get to the big game, win or lose, we need to pay that man. We need to compensate all the playmakers of the team. Something that Philly sports don't seem to understand is that if we want a championship like every New England team is seeking currently, then we need to pay our players and go for the playmakers.

Donovan, I'm one of your biggest fans. I know that you have at least 8 good, pro bowl years in you and a couple of MVP seasons to come. You NEED to stay with the birds. You are our leader. My boss has a good friend who is friends with your brother. They told me that you sold your house and thats a sign your leaving. I hope it's not true or that you're seeking a larger mansion in NJ, and that wherever you end up you paint another room in green and silver like the last one. I think that the birds need to get another quarterback through the draft and get rid of Feely. Feely is not a Philadelphia hero like many make him out to be. Kolb will work for me, however we need another young guy like Chad Henne, maybe i'm partial because i work at Henne's high school. And although you get nervous and offended when they draft quarterbacks, just know that you could start here for the rest of your career but you need good back ups and successors behind you. Train them, and mold them into the Pro Bowl quarterback that you are!

I know this was quite a rant but I had to speak somewhere and i want you to read this!

Love your love for the game. But I hope you watch the games for the weight room or the track. You need to slim down yo.

i have to tell you i congradulate on finally speaking up on getting the front office to getting you some help!!!
i have to ask this question though!!! why are they so bent on feeding us this reggie brown is the next jerry rice bit??? maybe you can answer it? cause fat boy's press conferences sure as hell don't say anything!!! the only season i didn't see you throw the ball at someone's shoelaces was 2004 when you had T.O.!!! maybe the staff can pull the films and see for themselves and get you some help!!! ( maybe we should sign ronde barber as receiver for you seem to like throwing to him) if they do please don't choke either like 2002, 03, 04!!! i'm just asking for just one super bowl trophy!!!!

i love your blogs, but what i love even more is the OUTPOURING OF THE FANS FROM PHILLY & ALL OVER THAT JUST THINK U R 1st CLASS ALL THE WAY, because u r & i hope u stay here in philly for a LONGGGG TIME!!!!!!

Im already anxious for next season. While I am now rooting for the Packers to win it all (or possibly by some miracle San Diego). Im not very interested in the playoffs now that Dallas is out (even though I am hoping the Patriots get crushed). I got in late on the "playmaker" segement, but here were my rankings and what we need to do in order to win the super bowl.

Tier 1
Chad Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald
Randy Moss

Tier 2
Roy Williams
Javon Walker
Dallas Clark

Tier 3
Bernard Berrian
D.J. Hacket
Donte Stallworth
Bryant Johnson

We need to STOCKPILE recievers like the Patriots. We need the best defensive player available in DE Jared Allen of the Chiefs. All of this is possible if we free up some cap room by trading away some overpaid players. I know you won't say it, so I will. We need to trade Javon Kerse and possibly Darren Howard if we want Chad Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. We have quite a few draft picks and both Cincy and AZ defense need help. I haven't kept up much on the draft prospects, but I've been impressed of what I saw in Indiana reciever James Hardy. He has the measurables Height: 6-7, 220 lbs that remind me of the 2nd coming of Harold Carmicheal.

we are most likely going to release kearse and probably howard, no team in their right mind would trade for them.

there is no way that we can aquire a star reciever and a defensive end who just led the year in sacks. i personally think that our recievers right now are fine and that the defensive end position will need to be added to when kearse and howard will be gone. the more realistic reciever pick up for the eagles this offseason would be bernard berrian because he can be a #1 reciever and return kickoffs for us. Jared Allen just had huge numbers this season and will get a lot of offers from a lot of teams.

instead of signing bernard berrian maybe the eagles should go for a reciever in the draft like you said so then they will have more money to spend on a defensive end.

I know you are most likely right on your thoughts of Jevon, but I want to give him one more year. I love that guy. His injury of last year did take a lot of his fire away from him this year but I hope, with every inch of my being, that next year he will be back to his "freak"ish playing.
He needed more time in rehab. You have to understand his injury was as bad as if not worse the McNabbs, but Kearses pathetic agent Drew Rosenhause (sp) didn't want to admit it, so he was playing with his injury.
One more year for Jevon!!!

Draft JAMES HARDY!!!!!!!!!!!! 6'7" 220lbs velcro hands, not afraid to plow someone over, and works out and trains with Randy Moss.
