Should Brady Quinn be the Browns opening day starter?

Romeo Crennel was doing coin flips the first game of the preseason to see who was going to start. Now he might have his guy. Brady Quinn was holding out that first game but looks like he has great knowledge of the offense. He has also looked very impressive this preseason completing 64 percent of his passes and has 236 yards along with 3 touchdowns. Sure when he got a majority of those yards it was against the Lions 3rd string defense but yesterday it was against the Broncos 1st team. The Broncos could be one of the 10 best defenses and Quinn went 7 for 11 with 81 yards and a touchdown. One of those incompletions was a 30 yard pass to Joe Jurevicius when he clearly got both feet in bounds. The Browns probably won't make the playoffs this year anyways, so it's worth a shot to give fans hope for the future. If Quinn plays he could also make a fantasy impact in a dynasty league or all rookie league.

Can't see any reason not to start him. You have to figure that they're not ready to make a Super Bowl run this year so why not give the kid some experience? Something else to consider is that Crennel hasn't exactly turned the team around; putting him on thie hot seat. Playing a rookie QB gives him an excuse and buys an extra year.

I can, no way is he ready to start against the Steelers. If the Browns start him it will be Tim Couch all over again.

Might as well start him....

Looking at the schedule I'd wait until after the bye week. Romeo should get another year to make something happen, but if he is on the hot seat this season I don't think Brady Quinn is going to bail him out week 1 or week 8. The team just isn't that good.

Crennel's job security is the only reason I can think of for not starting him, but let's not treat Quinn as the next coming just yet. Pre-season is still pre-season. Channing Frye is okay, and would be fine as a starter until Quinn is really ready.

Who is Channing Frye?

To me it seems like Romeo doesnt like Quinn, he never referes to him by name, he usually calls him by his number or says "the new kid" during interviews and press conferences. I do believe however that Quinn will start, but not right away, maybe halfway through the season or when the fans start demanding Quinn, whatever comes first.

I say hell yeah!! Watching what Brady Quinn became at Notre Dame over the past two seasons under the direction of coach Weis was nothing less than masterful. I am a true Cowboy fan and love Romo time but was truly crushed when they traded that pick to Cleveland. Cleveland fans sit back and watch what he can do and I feel sorry for Miami because Quinn will make them pay come October. How bout them Cowboys!, Go Irish and the Dawgs!!

I say wait until after the bye week.
Frye looks okay to start it off this year, let the O-line come together a little more and it will give Quinna few more weeks of learning the Offense and we will be throught he first round of heavily blitzing defenses.
i think Quinnis gonna be a great QB in the NFl and you dont want to get him smashed behind an O-line that is still coming together.
The O-line is definitely going to be one of the better lines in the league, but they have to come together and gel more before they are going to be the force they are paid to be.
But once the line gels and Quinn is ready, Look out !!! I think there will be a lot of talk about the Powerful offense the Browns have.
Too many weapons to not be a potent scoring machine.

No way. Let him sit on the bench and learn in this league first. No doubt he has great skill. But this league has tons and tons of stories involving promising Quarterbacks who throw their careers away by being rushed to start. The ones who sit back and learn are the ones who normally succeed. See Carson Palmer or Philip Rivers. They sat and learned before they had their chance and became successful. The ones that are thrown to the wolves are more often than not going to succeed in the NFL. The Browns have made this mistake before when they drafted a promising young Quarterback with the first pick in the 1999 NFL draft by the name of Tim Couch and look how that ended.
