SpyGate is out!!!!!

With the meeting of Roger Goodell and Matt Walsh to day nothing really got solved....at all!!!! I think that Bill Bellacheck and the entire orginization were not punished as much as they should be. I mean come on they have been cheating for like eight years. I think the NFL should be more like the justice system, you should be punished for every time. That is like a bankrobber getting caught in the act, and the police doing an investigation and finding loads of bank tapes with him robbing the bank but only charging him with the one he got caught red-handed doing. This is just ridiculous. They suspend players for their conduct off of the field which has absolutly nothing to do with the game of football, or the play on the field. What the patiots did had everything to do with football and the play on the field!! So heres another analogy somebody gets caught with a bunch of drugs ready to use but in court they say " No we were not going to use them drugs, sure the blunt was rolled, sure the lines were cut. We were not going to use them .....we just happened to have them" The patriots knew they were doing something wrong, thats why they told Walsh to be careful and to hide it. I don't but that crap that they didn't quite understand the rules. but they understood them enough to know that if they got caught doing it something could go down. All I have to say to any Patriots fan is " If you really want to brag about how you won rings and games and all that make sure you know that it was by cheating" WE ALL KNOW

CHeaters

The premise of the whole thing was the stealing of defensive signals. Goodell said in his interview that all teams steal defensive signals, which is correct. It's up to the teams to devise ways to change or conceal those signals so that they do not get stolen by the oppostion. This is nothing new and has been going on for years. When this all began, it was said the Walsh had a tape of the Rams' walkthrough practices at the S.B., which now mysteriously do not exist. What else is the NFL supposed to do. Looks like Walsh lied about the tape to begin with or maybe it mysteriously disappeared. Either way, no evidence equals no conviction.

TIs't it illegal to film from a sideline location?

*Isn't

I think they were already punished for that infraction. However, the penalty may not have been as severe as it should have been , although losing a first round draft pick is kind of severe. The issue about the tape at the Super Bowl was the next thing on the table and now the tape doesn't exist. Of course , Walsh now gives Goodell a bunch of BS about him wanting to be a coach in the NFL and he was taping stuff just for his own use. Who knows at this point? Maybe he got paid off, but we'll never know now. It's pretty much a done deal.

never know

yeah i hear you five rings but they still broke the rules! for years over and over and over again

They never broke the rules in any superbowl and you have never seen any proof. They taped signals along with most teams in the NFL during that period and none were of superbowl opponents. It was so widespread that the teams were given a warning to knock it off. Who can tell how many of those games were affected. Yes the Patriots continued and were disciplined. After the Jets game they won a record seventeen games in a row. How could they win those games without taping signals? I can't say all Philly fans are like you because there are plenty that I like on this site . You are why people stereotype Philly fans. Some give respect to the opposing team because they beat you fair and square like the Patriots did and some say they cheated when there has never been any mentioning of it. I will give Donovan his due respect when he wins a superbowl. You should do the same when you lose unless you have credible information that directly invloved the game you're talking about.

I give you a thumbs up eagles fans .

except for when walsh was at the superbowl ram's practice. maybe he was allowed to be there?

plain and simple another smoke screen has been put up from the cheating patriots organization. all they focused on was the rams game and kind of faded away from all the other games that they recorded. all i'm sayin is if you're going to tape teams don't tell me you're not going to use the tapes. they're cheaters period

Yeah, that's what they did. I saw it.

He's a freakin genius.

They didn't focus away from the other games. Those were covered earlier and that's why they received the fine and lost the draft choice.

I hope things settle down, but that could be a pipe dream...this has morphed into "the thick grey fog" issue nation sucked up in...no one will ever know with accuracy the extent, etc...unreal, unique story in sports, whether you hate or like this team, your scratching your head...book material no doubt

Heard that. I'm glad it's over just like the Jessica/Tony thing. Get tired of hearing about it after a while. One less thing for the haters to talk about.

You're right about that.

I agree with you five rings but how could it have been addressed earlier if the tapes that matt walsh handed over wer not seen at that time? these were new tapes to the NFL

I hear those tapes had a lot of closeups of the cheerleaders on them. Maybe Roger liked them.

It's true Randy Moss for Lto and the Pats 8th, ninth and tenth l draft picks. Boyfwen thiz i z yo

Truth be said, let them keep the rings, we all know now that they weren't talented enough to do it on their own merit, and hard work. Otherwise they would have won this year.

It answers a lot of questions, how a rookie quarterback can come in and win a Superbowl, for starters, and how a top-seeded team can lose a Superbowl...

The whole "Not telling the truth, is not lying" approach is juvenile. I could care less about Spygate, because the only thing it does is advocate my disrespect for franchises that lack credibility.

On to the next season, clean slate, lets see if they can get back to the the SuperBowl now.

manning is not a rookie,. He has been active for 4 years. That is young, but not rookie.

I wasn't talking about Manning, I was talking about Brady. His first year, filling in for Bledsoe during Bledsoe's injury. He had filled in for Bledsoe during the JETS game and lost. In the playoffs however he threw for 312 yards against The Raiders, and came back from a 10 point deficit. And ultimately won the SuperBowl, when Vinatieri kicked the field goal in Superbowl XXXVI as time expired.

I NEVER mentioned Manning, this is not about the Giants. The Giants were never the top seeded team in the 2007 season. The Patriots were. Obviously you are aware that Brady won his Rookie season right?

"It answers a lot of questions, how a rookie quarterback can come in and win a Superbowl, for starters, and how a top-seeded team can lose a Superbowl..."

It could have been taken either way. You were not that clear here.

Yeah ofcourse I know that Brady took over for Bledsoe. It was a huge issue, and ALL of the NE fans were pissed that Brady got the spot over Bledsoe who had got the team into the playoffs. Your statement makes no sense to me. I don't have to prove that I watch football just because I disagree that the Patriots have no talent. Yeah they were not that good before that, actually they were pretty terrible. I know! I went through it YEAR after YEAR! I live here a-hole. so dont tell me something I already know. I doubt that the RAMS were not doing the same stealing of defensive signals just like ALL the teams were doing!!! Every year that the pats got better, the critics (ESPN) would say..GEE! HOw are the Patriots winning? they can't win!! they suck! So when they did win the last Superbowl, they got some respect in NE. SO ofcourse, your statement,
(the patriots are terrible and they were never good so cheating was the ONLY way they could win) now sounds logical because they were caught, even though this was a common occurance in the nfl. shut up

And I am not an "A-Hole" I am a gentleman.
HAHAHA

Really? I must have missed that.

They won eighteen games in a row after spygate. They weren't talented enough to win the Super Bowl? Eli Manning is a rookie? Do you even watch football?

There was no mention of Eli Manning whatsoever in my post.

If you would be so kind to point out where Eli Manning is mentioned.

Thank you.

Opinion wise it is precarious that the first two games when Tom Brady was announced starter, he had mediocre and poor passer ratings, and was not playing up to the caliber of injured Bledsoe.

Now that he has adjusted into the league, passed those two years it takes for a typical Quarterback to adjust their play he had won three Super Bowls in six years, when evidence of them stealing signals come out.

And despite the work that the franchise has done; (Which I expect every franchise to improve)
And having quite possibly the most talented team in Patriots history, they do not have the trophy.

The fact is, they were not talented enough to win the Super Bowl. Otherwise the trophy would be in New England. I watch football, which is why I can say the Super Bowl score was 17-14 GIANTS.

GIANTS Super Bowl Champions.

And as astounded as I was that they won, you can't cook the history books. The same way they set out to clear their name, and failed.

This is my opinion, as it is an opinion post, but I guarantee a lot of teams view them as cheaters, and because they were caught, and didn't win the trophy after being caught;

While favored to win the Super Bowl, does not in the least help their case that they won their championships respectively in the eyes of many.

I would rather concentrate on next season, because if they are trying to prove they are the best, now they don't have any advantages from the start.

Here's a reminder of the rules of the yard jason2
Rules of the Yard. 1. Keep it clean(no cursing). 2. Be civil (no personal attacks). 3. Make a point!

As you corrected, Manning never won as a rookie... So I thought it would be apparent that the only Rookie who won a Superbowl associated with this article was Brady.

And I said "They were not talented enough to do it on their own merit."

Which means they have not won a Super Bowl without cheating during their season. Another educated assumption.

I never ridiculed your fandom, I just simply don't agree with you. And I have every right to have my opinion so long as I back it up. Which I feel I have.

You simply don't understand my angle. The Patriots by all means don't suck. They're an NFL team. I feel that they bought themselves time, to develop and teach their talent through stealing signals. It isn't about winning, losing, or talent. It's about fair play.

Right, I was thinking you were saying Manning was a rookie that took down the top seeded team.(the pats) He is ALMOST a rookie, being young, so it sounded like you were mispoken.

I agree that teams should not cheat, however, I don't feel the Patriots were the only team doing this. They were not. I can pull up any old game from 2-3 years ago, and we still see coaches covering their mouths when the call plays! AND NOT only against NE. So it happens. It isn't just one team. They were the example.

I'm pretty sure the pats had more then those 8 tapes. I mean come on you guys were doing thos since 2001 and you guys have 8 tapes to hand over?!?! really ... seems pretty weird. Bill billicheck also said they only taped divisional games, that was a lie, its just like catching some one thats cheating on you... if they lie about one thing they're using a lie to cover for another lie. Everyone thought that Bill was a defensive genius because he always had great half time adjustments, well we all know why now. Alot of times i watched NE games it seemed like they're O clicked way to good ... with those damn come back routes. Billy had to know a good amount of teams D's to do all that shit. All i know is when we were at the SB im pretty sure they had one first down in the first half then all of a sudden they were all beastly after halftime...

It's over. Get over it and move on. When they come out and kick everyone's butts again next year, what are the excuses going to be?

You know what? No matter WHAT the outcome of the Spy-gate investigation was, bitter fans of lesser teams were going to be bitter. Jealousy is an ugly emotion, people.

Yes, the New England Patriots filmed defensive signals. Defensive signals that were in full view of 70,000 fans. They were punished for their actions. If the team you follow was defeated by the Bill Belichick-era New England Patriots, it's because they outplayed them and were a better team. That's all there is to it. Stop with the jealousy. It makes you look stupid.

Now that the Boston Herald and Matt Walsh confirmed that there was no walk-through video or any other shady crap going on, all the haters (I'm a Cowboys fan so I know ALL about haters) are going to ignore the truth and write with their hearts instead of their heads. It's what ignorant people do. It's certainly not a new phenomenon.

Change your pads and get over it.

That is unfair calling teams "lesser" when they follow the rules. It's not jealousy, It's decency.

People got angry when steroids were found to be overwhelming in baseball, and so long as the innocence and sportsmanship of games are being questioned, people have the right to be disappointed in the operations of sports. Particularly if they are being bent to benefit one franchise, and exclude others.

Nobody should be exempt to the rules. Writing with conviction to fix a game which is spoiled by corruption is neither jealous or ignorant. It is a general concern, that people should feel motivated to fix. Cheating does not need to be part of the game.

FIVERINGS is right in the aspect, that it is over. And not necessarily "When"

but; If they come out and kick everyones butts, then they'll restore their credibility.

When the rules are neither for or against them, the true test will come.

Ok. Well said. I disagree, but well said none the less.

So, I suppose the quality of the New England Patriots play throughout the 2007 season, with all the media attention on them to the point where they couldn't so much as blink out of sequence without a congressional inquiry, does not satisfy your concern as to whether or not they can win games without "stealing signals?"

The 2007 Patriots went into Indianapolis (13-3) and won. The 2007 Patriots went into Dallas (13-3) and won. The 2007 Patriots went into the stadium of the eventual Super Bowl champion and won. Not good enough, huh?

Just say you dislike the Patriots and Bill Belichick and be done with it. At least you'd be honest about it.

I am not saying they are not talented, I am saying that now the pressure is on. And this is where champions are made. No advantages whatsoever.

It's not that I dislike The Patriots. I dislike cheating. I was brought up respecting fair play. And I expect that if they are being paid millions of dollars a year, they can at least make a level playing field. Nothing more, nothing less. I can't respect Shawne Merriman, and say he deserved his MVP award two years ago, and I can't respect someone who feels they need to bend rules. I am not apologetic in the least for this stance.

It is as un-acceptable to me, as should to all athletic participants. And it is a shortcut that undermines the work ethic needed to succeed. It is not a matter to be discussed.

At the end of the day it is about the road to the championship. the ups and downs, and realizing the work it takes to get there.

They didn't win the trophy. They didn't do what needed to be done.

I gave you a thumbs up to you because they are a talented squad. But if you are favorably the best team in the league, and you don't win the big game, and this is the first time you are staged for accomplishing this feat on your own. Why couldn't they out the game that mattered?

Puma. you're not a Giants fan. You're an Eagles fan. Why would you be happy that your rival won the superbowl? An educated guess would be you're a bitter Eagles fan who can't acknowledge that your team lost in the superbowl to the Pats. Your team's loss in the superbowl solidified the Pats as a dynasty. There are Eagles fans however that give the Pats credit and my hat goes off to them. They had a great team that year also. I'm not the only one that thought you were talking about Eli as the rookie.I still think you thought he was a rookie.

It's not about rivals...
It is about playing fair.

Thats an educated sportsman's logic. I don't think it is a trend that should be kept in the NFL or any sport for that matter.

I am happy with all Philadelphia Sports so long as we play aggressive and play with intent to represent the city. Morality and ethic to follow the rules included.

And why would I bring Eli Manning into an article about Spygate? He has no place here. Tom Brady is the only player in candidacy on a team favored to win the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season, who won the Super Bowl as a rookie. You simply didn't read my comment, and it is ironic that this debate continues. I am not going to say The Patriots are untalented, but I am not going to say that they won fair and square. And as a sportsman it is my prerogative to hold the conduct of coaches and players of the NFL higher as professionals. Cheating in any regards of the game is not the conduct of champions. And I was held to that belief at a young age, and I stand with that belief, and I am convicted to defend it.

It has nothing to do with personal pride, The Giants, The Patriots, it is ethics 101. Cheating to win is wrong, and it is not a commendable behavior. If I choose to feel that cheating is wrong, there is no problem in that. I am just shocked that people don't care about sportsmanship.

A lot has changed in sports, and it is a shame that people are accepting unfair play as a part of the game.
