Stay Positive, Take A Stand

For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

At the start of the 2007 NFL season, I would expect that a ton of goals were set. Out of the many goals that were set I'm sure that 100% of the goal setters never once thought about the process that would have to take place for the manifestation or the fruition to arrive. My meaning is just this, when we plant seeds in the earth we never see what's going on underground, but we believe that the process is working. Unfortunately, we live in a society where the microwave mentality is so prevalent that everyone wants fruit from that seed yesterday.

During the preseason I was offered an opportunity to have lunch with a Hall of Famer, who played most of his career for a team I'm not very fond of.....OK, the 49ers and Ronnie Lott. Almost instantly my gift of shut up and listen rose up on the inside of me because this is a person I not only respect but is in a place I desire to be. Mr. Lott is very successful in his post playing days. Given the chance to ask many questions, I only truly had one serious one and that was, "How do you handle the down times within your business?" It was interesting to hear this Hall of Famer's reply. It reminded me of the many encouraging words I've heard from coaches, friends, family, and fans, "What you do is continue to push, do the small things, and stay positive."

I sit here 0-2 smart enough to go back in NFL history to focus on the many teams that started 0-2 and finished in the playoffs. That's my focus. You may be reading this piece and your job, marriage, finances, or some other relationship is under attack. Take a stand. There is hope and when faith is added to that hope, "No one can stop you but you." We have to be active participants in our own rescue. Continue to call things which be not as though they were! Remember, PS 34:19, "many are the affliction (test, trials, and storms) of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."

Ending, give praise where it is due, to all of the defensive coordinators in the NFL, Randy Moss is still explosive!!!

P.S. This is my MVP season.

Great game this week Isaac!

that was a great write up

Hey Isaac,

Good to hear the mental fortitude in your words. You guys have the offense to quickly turn this slow start around.

Your performance on Sunday (145 yards on 8 grabs) was amazing. In a world where most WRs mouths are bigger than their contributions on the field, it was great to see you put up such a big day. You and Torry both are such good examples of the way the game should be played.

Steven Jackson, while I'm sure is motivated by the right intentions, should learn from you and keep his emotions to himself while on the sidelines in front of the camera.

Give my best wishes for a speedy recovery to Orlando - you guys need him. I hope Mr. Bulger isn't too dinged up after some of those hits last week.

Good luck @ Tampa Bay next week.

great words..

I think you guys can turn it around. Between you, holt, and jackson, the rams will always have a fighting chance to win every game.

"We have to be active participants in our own rescue." I like that.

Hey man nice words.

What percent of NFL players are Christians? I've always wondered cause it seems like every former NCAA or NFL player I've met is.

Put a fork in the lambs! They are done!

I need to use my gift of shut and listen more often. I really loved your post, and it has really made me realize that even though I may be going through rough times here and there, it could always be worse, and to be thankful for all that I have been blessed with. Have a good game!

You've got the character down. Endeavor to persevere, my fellow South Floridian.

Great post! I wish you would post more because your posts are so inspirational plus I really enjoy the insight into the NFL. I enjoyed watching you here in Memphis and I ALWAYS pull for you and the Rams now that you are there. If you are every in town and want to play disc golf, look me up!

Awesome post! I will return to your blog. I totally agree and you have giving me food for thought. WOW!

Hey! put some more pics up with you in ACTION! That would be sweet. I luv this page, it is like my morning zen.

First of all Isaac, I still believe in you guys and love the good attitude. I'll be at the Dallas game rooting for you! Make a statement to the NFL this weekend!

Excellent writing Mr. Bruce. You're by far the best writer of the other athletes on here.

Thought about being a writer when your career is over? I work for a publishing company, just give me a shout! lol

Your writing in profound. This is the year to begin your transition...the things of God will not waitl.

I can't believe you signed with the whiners... I have always been a rams fan and I can't stand the current organization either... but the niners, thats like stabbing all of your fans through the heart... I just purchased my first ever NFL jersey which was a Rams Bruce jersey too... what a terrible day.

man Isaac Bruce just went to a better team so your lambs are weak and T.H iz weak too
