i have 2 dogs and they are as important to me as any human being i know! it's nice to see Big Ben putting that money to good use! he just went up a grade in my book! and i also have a Bernese Mt. Dog so i might be biased! lol

I think just the fact that he is bringing the spotlight to it is worth quite a bit.

even as an Eagle fan, kudos to Big Ben for this. My Newfoundland and Great Pyranese Mt. Dog are as close to me as my family, friends, and girlfriend. I respect this man for his love of dogs. Perhaps this gives me more reason to root for the Steelers in the AFC. I take back all the things i've said of Big Ben, even all of my jokes about wearing a helmet. Cheers to mans' best friend. Great gesture from Ben, but he's still an A-hole. This has NOTHING to do with his play on the field, but many people in Pittsburgh can vouche for what a jerk this guy really is. He has placed bans on some stores for selling stuff with his name on it. Why you ask? So that he can sell them the clothing line that he has produced overseas and for a much higher profit. I worked at a very expensive restaurant while in college and he had the audacity to ask us to shut it down for him...we laughed at him. He came in with Mario Lopez (aka AC Slater) and they got a table in the corner...nobody cared. Mario was a cool dude for the record haha. Even as a rookie he would turn down HOT girls for pictures when he made his way to the local bars in Oakland. and trust me these girls were HOT. While leaving practice at training camp he would stand up on his motorcycle...smart right? $100k is nothing to him after his new deal, but im happy for the dogs and the Pittsburgh police...they're struggling.

People have a real hard time understanding that athletes aren't what they appear to be on TV. So when people recount stories like this, hard-core fans don't know how to act. I'm a rabid Steeler fan and Big Ben is my all-time favorite Steeler--I really don't care what these guys do in their private lives and people should learn to separate the athletes social self vs. their private self.

I think it is a wonderful contribution, but I have to agree with DTRIK19, he is an absolute jerk. I met him at a charity auction and he was downright arrogant and mean. I have always been a fan and was excited to meet him. I couldn't believe it. I was so disappointed.
