Top 10 Dumbest People in the NFL

Yesterday, former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry, the magnet of trouble that he is, was unsurprisingly given an indefinite suspension by the NFL for, well, what has he not done over the last few years?

Fortunately for Henry, he's not alone, as he's one of many on his former team whose decision-making capabilities are questionable, to say the least.

So, with that in mind, I thought I'd put together a list of the 10 stupidest people/groups in the NFL today.

Ryan Leaf, you're forgiven, and so are the 31 teams who passed on Tom Brady in the 2000 NFL Draft. Hindsight is 20/20, but you'll be paying for it for the next several years.

10. Any player who dares to mess with Ed Hochuli: Referees usually aren't a football fan's favorite people (unless they've given our team a generous call), but Hochuli has achieved Chuck Norris-like status not only because he's one of the top referees in the league, but more because of his humorous calls ('the defender was simply overpowered') and his physique, which Phil Simms is a great admirer of.

Even if Hochuli may wear his shirts a size or two too small (or maybe he's just that buff), I don't know how many people would willingly face up to him in a dark alley, or on a football field. In his day job, he's renowned as a top lawyer. Could it be that he wins many of his cases by intimidation? One flex, and it's over.

9. Draft picks who hold out: So, Mr. First Rounder, who told you that it'd be a smart idea to hold out through the start of training camp just to get an extra couple mil? Considering that you haven't played a single down in the NFL yet, and there's a good chance you could be out of the league in a few years, you're not in a position to get greedy. I know, it might partly be your agent's fault, and that's another story for an entirely different post.

You will still be able to afford everything you've ever wanted five times over, and most importantly, you won't fall behind in your development if you go ahead and get the negotiations done as quickly as possible.

8. Cedric Benson: Get arrested once, maybe it's an accident. Get arrested in the same place, for much the same offense, and you're asking for it. Good luck in Canada!

7. Lane Kiffin: Nothing against the Oakland Raiders, who have some potential to be a good team in the near future, but after all of the dramatics that happened following Kiffin's first season, you have to question why Kiffin took the job in the first place, when it's clear that Al Davis isn't exactly the epitome of patience.

You could've stayed at USC, with your cushy, drama-free job as an assistant for one of the elite programs in the country, waiting patiently until a less drama-filled head coaching job came calling in the next couple of seasons. Fortunately, if you do get fired for not living up to Davis' standards, you won't have a problem with finding another job.

6. The Patriots' video assistant who got caught: All you had to do was not get caught, and what did you do? It's for the betterment of the game, though we all grew tired of Spygate months ago. As for your career, maybe you can get a job on the next remake of Candid Camera.

5. Bill Belichick: Responsibility. Learn how to take some of it.

4. Matt Millen: There's a chance that Millen could redeem himself if the Lions can get things turned around over the next few years, but I'm not the only one who wonders how he's still employed, though that may have been answered in #3.

Maybe Barry Sanders made the right decision by retiring when he did, because if he had stayed until after Millen took over, he may have had the NFL rushing record, but he would've been even more miserable. At least the Lions made the playoffs five times during Sanders' ten seasons (1991, 1993-95, 1997).

When Millen was hired, he had experience as an NFL player (1980-91) and as a TV/radio analyst. However, he had no front office experience, and it's showed, rather painfully at that: The Lions were 9-7 in 2000, but since Millen arrived prior to the next season, there've been seven straight losing seasons.

3. The leadership of the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals: Is there any surprise why these two franchises are far from what they were at one time? Their owners must be quite the sadomasochists when it comes to their fans and their franchise.

2. The entire crew of Cincinnati Bengals' troublemakers: Do they get together and say that they're going to run afoul of the law, or are all just stupid? I'll go with the latter.

1. Trent Green: I know Trent Green loves the game of football and doesn't want to walk away, but sometimes, it's a good idea to forget passion and think common sense.

Why do I have Green at #1 despite all of the other possible choices?

1) After the severe concussion that he had in the 2006 season, he should've seriously considered hanging it up, but he was all too eager to come back.

2) He tried to block Travis Johnson, who's 6'3, 315 pounds, by trying to take his knees out with his head–while Johnson was running.

3) After Johnson's knee knocked him into the next week, he should've said, "Okay, that's it. I want to be able to know who and where I am in 20 years." Instead, he not only decided to come back, but he chose to sign with the St. Louis Rams.

Because of the beating that Marc Bulger is likely to take in 2008, Green will likely see the field. And when he does, there's a good chance he could get rocked again–the last time the Rams' offensive line allowed less than 40 sacks in a season was 1999, which is why there's no surprise that eight different QBs have started under in that time period (Warner, Green, Bulger, Jamie Martin, Chris Chandler, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Gus Frerotte, Brock Berlin).

So, who did I miss? I'm sure there are plenty of people that I missed, but these are my 10. Agree/disagree/have your own 10?

browns for not trying to shop brady quinn...

Nick Kaczur and a brain full of rocks, what a disappointment

Travis Henry

TC dude, I'm in shock about you know what, but yeah, Henry is wasting his talent mixed with others...apparently, as it's been awhile since on here, I missed alot of you know what...wow, like my mom always said, always be yourself and hope it isn't true

yeah a waste of great potential

how bout igor olshansky for guarenteeing victory of the patriots and saying they are much more scared then we are HAHAHAH when ur best player is doubtful u should be a little worried..then when he actually sat the game out i bet olshansky pissed himself

I don't think you can say Matt Millen is dumb I think you can say the Lions are for letting him keep a job.

worst GM with nine lives ever, Millen

Dumb and dumber

I think Michael Irvin should have made the list

Funny, but you proved in your own words why draft picks who hold out for extra millions are in fact very smart: "there's a good chance you could be out of the league in the next few years". This is true, therefore draft picks should hold out for the most $$ they possibly can for as long as they must -if they're not stupid. "an extra couple mil" might come in very handy if they're out of a job three years down the line.

true enough qbanis, true enough! +1 for your observations.

wow, you are slow...Kiffin is in a position to take his team deep into the playoffs this year. Yea, when someone who is a self proclaimed expert working in the media, and they can't recognize a serious challenger, it's obvious to the most casual observer, you've become irrelevant. Let me put this in simple terms even you can under stand, "You jumped the shark, brother." Good luck in your career.

Trent Green...LMAO...

the seriousness with which some people take things is amusing, to say the least.

svduran1 - i said the raiders have potential, and they do...young QB, chance to have a solid offense, should have one of the better defenses in the league. in a division where the only sure bet at this point is san diego, the raiders could step up and challenge for a playoff spot either this year or in the next year or two.

but if it doesn't happen, and there's a good chance it doesn't, because the raiders are, well, the raiders, he could be out on his tail in a flash.

it's not looking like a smart decision AT THIS POINT because of all of the dramatic, unnecessary b.s. that surrounded him in the off-season. in the future? he could be a genius. so could matt millen or cedric benson.

Ed Hochuli!!!! NOONE will mess with him!!! Unless theyre armed an he isnt...I used to love the guy before people were speculating that he was an Eagles fan and ruled in their favor too much. He CERTAINLY proved that WASNT the case last season...UGH....But the "there was no penalty, the defender was simply overpowerd" call was the best Ive ever heard. The "giving him the business" call was bit from a referee from years ago and gets no points for being unoriginal...Funny post!!

Matt Millen and Cedric Benson have a better chance of hitting the floor with there hat than you do. We'll I mean it just because your you, you can't hit the floor with a hat. Here let me put this in terms even you can understand, "Just Because," is not a reason and holds no scientific weight or value. This would be why your opinions have no value, it's because you use, "Just Because as your value gauge.

Can't you just say the Oakland Raider franchise as a whole? They have zero potential, we could be headed to an uncapped year soon and that means that the Raiders will be spending even more ridiculous amounts of money on overrated players. Once a fixed cap is agreeded on afterwards they won't be able to field a team , they'll be capped out after adding up 6 or 7 players salaries. That organization is from top the bottom the worst run one in the league, with the Bengals in a close 2nd. Saying the Raiders have potential is just plan wrong, sorry.

raiders dont have a chance?? they got a play off made defense and they just the biggest play maker in college football and there starting the number 1 pick 2 years as a starting a QB and when u get picked like number 1 it usually means ur pretty good also getting a big time wr like javon walker.....so dont say the raiders dont have a chance they will go 12-4 this year watch

We need dumb people to make everyone else look like we actually know something! :)

Ok its easy to say "hey the whole cincinnati bengals team's are trouble makers" However the truth is about 8 diffrent guys where the trouble makers the rest of the team is great, they have charity's that they run and they do alot of stuff during the off season to help give back. Its totaly unfair to have 8 trouble makers give the whole team a bad reputation. Why not just point out the trouble makers instead of the team. By the way the bengals dont play around on stuff like that. chris henery is no longer with the team. Odell thurman is gone as well. They are cleaning house. However as a cincinnati fan I have to tell you mike brown is the most crapy owner if the history of the nfl. I went to a bengals game and they were charging 4.50 for a bottle of cold water so people started going to the bathrooms and filling up with cold water and mike brown had all the cold water in the stadium shut off. He is a cheap skate who only cares about his money and not the team. no wonder we have only been to the playoffs 1 time in the past 17 years. If his dad paul brown were alive he would have to beat his son down for being such an idiot. I dont know why he just doesnt sell the team to someone who actualy cares about winning and not how much money he can make.

Evander Holyfield is Trent Green's career counselor
