Welker Provides Hope For Dallas Cowboys' Free-agent WR

This could be a great pickup for the Cowboys. I have watched this guy in the Big 12 for 4 years now and he has burned every defense in it. Maybe he can do the same in the NFL.

Making it to September is a long shot for the 14 undrafted free-agent signees reporting to Valley Ranch today for rookie minicamp.

The way Danny Amendola sees it, he's at least got a pretty good example that it can be done. Four years ago, fellow Texas Tech-ex Wes Welker was in his shoes, an undrafted, undersized slot receiver with a slight hope of making the NFL

"From when I first got it here, it was 'Wes Welker Jr.' Every time I hear that, I must think I'm doing something right. It's an honor being compared to him

THUMBS UP!!! that's a great quote!! good read fiver!!!

I second that

Who knows if he'll work out or not, but from what I have seen of him, he is just one of those guys that knows how to get open.

I didn't know this guy at all and I am already starting to worry about all the hype. It is starting to make me want to remind everyone that Wes Welker's huge success last season was as much about Moss as it was about Welker. We could have a similar combo with T.O. and Amendola but without an injury or T.G.'s retirment I think he will have an almost impossible time to get onto the field. Besides, I still haven't given up on Stanback. I really want to see what he can do as well.

That's true, but the kid is a free agent and if he makes the team, then so be it. I remember Welker getting the axe down at Miami and then look what happened. Yes, part of his success is due to Moss, but Welker did the same thing in high school in Oklahoma City and they said he woudn't make in college , then he did it at the next level. Amendola is the same kind of player with great drive and runs excellent routes with great hands.

I just reread my comment and it sounds too harsh on Welker. He has had a solid career as a receiver and a very good career as a return man. I didn't mean to down him.

you scared me for a second. Thanks for giving me a heart attack this morning.

I did?

no, I as a pats fan I just read Five's headline Welker, and then cowboys...a little scary!!

How did I figure that ck0712 would respond. You are such a nice person to even respond to Cowboy fans. I wish I had it in my heart to do the same.....I just cant do it. Good for you!!! GO EAGLES!!!

Cool with me, man. It's a football article. I didn't come on here bashing your team or anything. At least CK has some class. Thanks.

he'll get cut before the end of training camp

I wouldn't bet on it. We do have a few receivers on the roster, but the only one that's a lock is T.O. right now. Crayton is not even a lock when it comes down to it. The second and third receiver slots are wide open.

good luck to him. I'd rather see guys drafted late rounds and UDFA make big careers than watch another batch of first rounders sign huge deals and flop. late picks earn their spot and their pay.... 1st rounders often do neither

That's true. Too much money being given to unproven rookies. It should be the other way around. Minimum first year money and then prove that they can earn it.
