Westbrook Wants LT Money

Eagles RB Brian Westbrook is being very vocal on his desire for a new contract. In a recent article by Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Westbrook voices his opinion on the matter.

"The contract thing is a sour point for me because when you deserve something you deserve something," Westbrook said. "What's right is right, [...]

give the man money ... he the best RB in the NFL

he is not the best RB in the NFL.... maybe the best recieving RB in the NFL but no running LT.

Pay him, right now he deserves it more than anybody in the NFL, cuz no team relys on one player more than the eagles do in B West

Pay The Man!!! but honestly, what does it say about the FO when they won't pay one of their best and deserving players?

Give Him da Money , He Deserves it, go birds!!!

HATE to say this but if you read the entire article, B West wants $30 mil guaranteed. West is the best player, the most important player, and my personal favorite player on the Eagles, with that being said, hell will freeze over before the Eagles FO pays him $30 mil guaranteed. Alot of you all are being VERY optimistic about this situation being resolved. I want nothing more than B West to be happy. But this is going to be a huge problem, hes NOT getting that kind of money going on 30 years old, whether he deserves it or not is another question because I believe he deserves something close. We better pray that this contract gets resolvd and Westbrook comes to his senses with his age and the money hes requesting which I doubt will happen. Lito's situation doesnt even seem the least significant with this new situation. Hopefully the Eagles pay him something in the $20 mil range and let him play out his contract unhappy and let him go when its that time, this is a TERRIBLE situation. With the aquisition of Booker (who theyve consistently said can do the same types of things B West can do) I have a bad feeling this will not turn out good. Hes our only true threat and hes the heart of our offense. Im VERY discouraged with whats happening and will not be surprised in the least if Mr. Westbrook is not in training camp. ALWAYS gotta be some drama with the Eagles, but this FAR eclipses any drama weve seen in the recent past, and Ill be praying West understands hes not as old as LT was when he signed, and he needs to take the raise he gets and play ball, or the Birds are going to be in some serious trouble unless Booker is the next coming of LT (bout a 3% chance that could happen)

Hit the nail on the head CUltdiese....Couldnt have said it better myself. I love him to death, and he is our offense. This is very disheartening, but no way in hell hes getting $30 mil guaranteed. This is looking worse by the day, and I really hope something can be worked out. With Westbrook being so vocal, I see the possibility of this being a major distraction if something doesnt get figured out. I think im feelin a little sick.

I just heard all of this this morning. I agree wholeheartedly with both of you. Pass the Pepto buddy.

Give him the money, Westbrook was our whole damn offense last year because until the last 4 games DMAC was very mediocure and average.

and this is why the Eagles havent got that big name WR everyone wanted. Because Westbrook is the core of our team, and he deserves a huge contract. i been saying this forever.

if we pay him, can we afford a big name WR next year?

thats what i just said....

its either westbrook or a #1 WR... id take westbrook...

they are about 18 million under the cap, banner needs to stop saving his lunch money and pay Westbrook! Yea westbrook is approaching 30, but make a good will gesture and overpay him for what he did last year for the Eagles.

Westbrook isn't getting $30 million of guaranteed money and he's not going to find an agent that can honestly tell him that or help him acheive that. LT signed that extension for that money at 25. When Shaun Alexander last got a new contract, he was coming off TD records and and MVP season yet he was 29. He ended up with $15 million of guaranteed money. That's what BWest can realistically shoot for.

No way B-West gets $30 mil. At his age he only has 2-3 years left at playing at this level. We can't make the same mistake the Seahawks made with Alexander.

I love the Eagles and I love Brian Westbrook. He DOES NOT deserve LT money. Look at the touchdown totals for the last two years between BW and LT. THAT is the difference. If Westbrook starts to double (or triple) the number of TD's he contributes in a year, then they should talk LT money.
Over the last two years...
LT Total TD's = 49 (plus 3 passing)
BE Total TD's = 23 (zero passing)
How about the Eagles pay him 47% of what LT is making because that's the percentage of TD's that he's got compared to LT. I know it's only one measurement, but saying he is as good as LT is going to draw this kind of comparison.

Nice job Jaime... B-West is great but he's no LT(Arguably the best running back ever!). I've been saying he deserves more money all along, but now he's askning for too much.

agreed. don't think he deserves what LT got, but of course he's not going to say that...

What if McNabb goes down? No, correction, WHEN McNabb goes down he may not possess the value needed for this team. But, what can you do? He is awesome and rare talents like this need to be overpaid. He is damn durable.

nbhatia - I'm not sure I'm following your point. I don't think I'd classify B-west as "damn durable". Since 2004 B-west has missed 11 games to McNabb's 16. DMac has missed more, but they've both missed quite a few.

Like I said - I Love B-west, but his claim that he's as good as LT simply isn't supported by anything measureable. In almost every category that matters LT has been doing it better and longer than B-west. The only real stat that BW has over LT is that he beat him in Yards From Scrimmage last year (by about 150 yds). But I'd trade those 150 yds for the 6 extra TD's that LT had. Think how many more games the birds would've won with 6 more TD's.

Going into this dispute B-west had public sentiment on his side, but if he's going to start telling the world he's the best back to ever play the game I can see that sentiment erroding quickly.

This is a sticky situation.

u r right, i suck

you pay him the money, then everyone wants the money, then how are you ever goin to have a good football team. Doesnt anyone realize that westbrook after all said and done is actually getting top 5 running backs in the league

No one should deny his talent, nor his impact on the club when healthy, howeverWestbrook needs to prove that he can stay healthy in order to garner LT like money. Does eveyone know that shockey was traded?

I love Westbrook... but he ain't LT, is he?

I love bwest myself but the reality of this concract is that the eagles cant give him a new contract yet only two years in becuz of the verbage of the contract. I has clauses in it that prevent a new contract from taking place only two years into his current contract. The sad part is that he deserves the money but the reality is the way his contract was written prevents the eagles from paying him what he wants, it only grants him about 15mil more at best and the eagles have tried to work sumthing out for him to get that 15mil but he doesnt want it he wants more not even his new agent would be able to work this out. sorry west but no big money for u buddy, the eagles and your last agent gotcha real gud

Westbrook is Philly's best player. The Eagles can do without McNabb (ex. Jeff Garcia), but they are lost without Westbrook. That being said, it's awfully difficult to give guaranteed money to a running back that is Westbrook's age. Curtis Martin was the exception to the rule, but can Westbrook beat the odds?

i say give 20 million in guaranteed money let's come to happy median here!!! he's our best player and we can't win without him!!!

I agree Lamont Jordan sucks and we were 4/12 last year, that really doesn't change the fact that you guys claim one guy is your whole offense and he runs like a woman in 5 inch heels. Oh did I just say that about Wastebrook. We'll see how DMac does since Jordan is being shuffled to Detroit, but actually now that I think about it you guys are right, he is your whole offense, oh no wait you have all of those great receiv... oh no you don't, oh no you have a great quarterb.... oh no you dont ... yeah you guys are right. You win.

Oh and by the way Wastebrook last season Att. 278 Fargas Att. 222
Yrd. 1333 Yrd. 1009
T.D. 7 T.D. 4
And that's L.T. money???

What does that mean "you cant win without him"? You're a 500 team last year and the guy wants L.T. money. Once again..... he wants LaDainian Tomlinson money for running like Lilly Tomlinson, if that's the "TEAM" and you "can't win without him, well here's to an 8/8 RB forever retards. So I guess L..T. deserves a $120 mill contract?

this is coming from a knucklehead that likes a team that pays sorry azz lamont jordan the same money as l.t.!!!
oh by the way raid the nation what was your record last year???? tell al davis he'd be better using jordan's money for more botox injections!!!!

I take it there's absolutely nothing to post about the Raiders so have nothing to do but look at other team's postings. You know who didn't deserve all the money they got?? Jamarcus Russell.......

He deserves the money, he's probably the second best running back in the league and the best playmaker in football. I understand that he's a runningback and once he hits 30 he's only going to get worse, but remember he is not a power back so he should be able to last longer. so the eagles should give him a slight extension and give him more money, he's definately worth more than 3 4 million a year
