What Will Happen When Their Contracts Are Up?

They have been part of the Philly offensive line for as long as I can remember, but we all know they're getting up there in age and their contracts are up at the end of 08. So will they get their contracts renewed or will one of the new kids step? Or will we be shopping for some vets to replace them? So many questions so few answers. So guys let me know what you think.

They better be willing to stay for the same or less than they are making now on a short term contract. If they think they can get more elsewhere (which they probably will) farewell and thanks for the memories. The 2009 O-line could look something like this. Herremans-MJG-Jackson-Big Kid-Justice/McGlynn/FA

I'm not sure about Herramns though. Don't think he is our franchise LT. maybe a season or two, but the sting of losing Tra Thomas will surely be felt.

i was just getting ready to reply dtrick, kinda took my thoughts with you on this:
runyan i think will retire, as much as i hate to say it, i think he just might....gut calling is all. NICE one gunna!!!

you really think big john will retire?

just a gut feeling, i think he's got so much going on with his custom bike shop now, ya know boogie hehe!!

yea that is a point marko his big shop is getting bigger then him now ha

damn, i love both of these guys alot but i agree with cko712 i think runyan will retire too eventho hes still a beast that mauls DE'S. and with williams i really dont know about him ... i just hope we can replace 2 great OT's in a good amount of time.

noooooooooooooooo this is the fall of the eagles... once mcnabb is gone its over.. too

whats going to happen is that max j.g. will step in at right guard and andrews will move to right tackle.. they will address the left tackle spot with one of the 2 1st round draft choices this year (maybe on a guy like Loadholt out of Oklahoma)

You simply cannot replace these guys so easily. I say give them a one or two year contract, slap the tag on the one who wont cost you that much in doing so. Those options will give the birds time to find their replacements before they get too old to properly play those positions at a high level. I know for a fact that Runyan wants to stay for at least two or three more season in order to get his house done. Tra was on the radio the other day and says he still feels like he can play at a high level for another five years, I dont know about that but we shall see in the years to come.

If the eagles get to the playoffs and fair very well, I think that they will both come back for at least a season. That is providing they both stay healthy and play well. Runyan won't retire if he believes the eagles can play at a high level good enough to contend for a championship. If the eagles don't do so hot and it looks like they're not so close to that level, it could be retirement time for runyan.

well yes, if the eagles evaluate these guys and feel they are still there best option at the positions then of course they will be granted a contract
however, these guys are up in age and they play may deteriorate over the season

Runyan and Thomas have been mainstays on that o-line for years. They have been 2 of the best tackles in the leagues and have always been dominant. However, they are getting older. Runyan, in my opinion, will either sign a one-year contract or retire. He's too old and loves philly and simply won't want to move around the world if the eagles don't re-sign him. Thomas I think has a better shot of being re-signed then Runyan, but the chance is still very slim. A lot of it really depends on the FA market and the Draft Picks the Eagles have next year. It's hard to speculate on it now, but I do believe there is a great possibility this is their last year. I also know that Andrews will move to Tackle when they are gone and so will Herremans. MJG will be one of the new guards...the other will be up for grabs.

I'm going to go ahead and say the Runyan resigns for another year and Thomas walks. The ONLY reason I say this is because Runyan has played in soooo many consecutive games that if he can stay healthy then he'll be here at least 1 more maybe 2. Thomas on the other hand has had his share of injuries and I think that out of the 2 Runyan just makes more sense. At that point, you either have Andrews or Herremans moving out to left tackle and MJG taking the vacant guard spot. My apologies to Winston Justice but you need to beat out the guys in front of you to earn respect not win it by default. With 2 first rounders in next years draft at this point, I'm thinking that we are in very good shape!! Let's go BIRDS!!!

think about this,we have can loose Dawkins,Thomas,Runyan,Lito Shepperd, mcnabb(if he has a bad year or gets hurt) and buckhalter all in the same season. Now that sucks to the farthest possable level of suckish ness.

no way McNabb is leavin.
