What happened to the days when football was fun?

I am so tired of every day logging on to my computer and seeing somebody new "upset" about their contract, be it on the Eagles or any other team!! These players just need to be thankful that they are in the NFL and making the money that they are making. If any of them would have gotten hurt in college, it would take them years to make what they make in football in one year!!! They signed the contract and I belive it should be honored. That is the purpose of a contract, to lock somebody in. I do understand that this is a job (career, whatever) for them and this is the way that they put food on the table for them and their families. I am a owner of a business myself, I build decks, fences anything out side....If I build a deck for a customer that turned out better then expected would it be fair for me to ask them for money??? NO! Why? Becasuse we signed a contract and i must uphold that. You win some you lose some. Do I think Brian Westbrook is underpaid? OH YES he is

by far. If he wants to stay longer and sign an extension for money than do it, why give him more money for the remainder of his contract so he could possibly leave after it is up?? NO WAY.... Lock him in! When you sign a contract and sign your name to that piece of paper, you are signing away your career fo X number of years that is just the way it goes. Deal with it, your agent should have gotten you a better contract to start with, be mad at him not the FO!

I personally think that if a player is that unhappy with his contract the team should be able to cut him, and he not be allowed to play for ANY team until his contract is up. With no pay at all, and it would free up cap room for the said tem!

If a player signs a lengthy contract with a team and during that contract he turns into a star why shouldn't he ask to be compensated. What is a players motivation to work hard and become an elite player if he's not going to get an increase in pay. Teams have the ability to release players at anytime with only a portion of their contract being guranteed so a player should be able to ask for a "raise" at anytime. A guy like Westbrook who went from one of the best players on his team to one of the best players in the league should be able to ask for more money. The ownership is now making more money off marketing Westbrook so he should now make more money. Also, I think comparing building decks to the business in the NFL is a bit of a stretch.

i perfectly agree 757eaglesfan, even players who have never took a snap in their life (matt ryan) is getting payed more then any other player in the league its redicolus, also i hate how players keep asking for more money, when you agree to a contract...thats how much ur getting payed..u shouldnt ask for more

So if a guy is a late roud pick and signs for late round money he shouldn't be able renegotiate for a new contract if he turns out to be a star in 2 years? If teams can release aplayer at any time during their contract why can't a player ask for more money during his contract?

Its not like the FO is screwing him out of any money... all the numbers are right there laid out on the table. X amount of $$ for Y amount of Years. If you feel you have the potential to rise to be a star in say, 2 years, why not just sign a 2 year contract? whats the point of a contract if you dont honor it? A team has the right to release you, because once you sign that contract, they own you... you become an asset to that team. if you arnt performing, they can shred up you contract. but it doesnt work the other way around. i do believe rewards are in order for players who play better than their contract. I would personally suggest bonuses that do NOT count towards salary cap. In stead of this contract fiasco every year, why not just offer cash rewards for doing a good job. so you get what your contract implies, and on top of that you are rewarded cash. i dont see why that couldnt work, and everyone would be happy.

Im on the fence on this situation because i support the idea of a contract, but believe the player SHOULD be rewarded for outplaying his contract. in a sport like the NFL, you never know when or if you'll break out... but dont sign a 5 year deal for 30 million and then ask for more money in 2 years... you signed a 5 year deal.. its not like you didnt know it would be 5 years... remember, these terms arnt FORCED on the player when they sign... they AGREE to them when they sign.

Or at least they should only be able to get there contract restructured only once.
