Cardinals GM Steve Keim: Kyler Murray contract could get 'done this summer'

Shortly after the NFL Draft, Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said he would "try to get something done" regarding two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray and his well-known desire to sign a contract extension this offseason.

It was later reported that Murray "won't be too eager to play this season without a new deal" even though the 24-year-old previously took to Twitter to make it known he wants to "win Super Bowls with the Cardinals" and that he considers Arizona his "home." Keim appeared on Wednesday's edition of "The Pat McAfee Show" and offered what seems to be an optimistic update on the situation.

"I just think it's a timing thing," Keim explained, according to Darren Urban of the Cardinals' website. "Anyone who has done it before has done it anywhere from July to September. No different for us. We know he is under contract for another year and also the fifth-year option (in 2023). He is our future, we feel that strongly. I feel like we'll be able to get something done this summer."

As Josh Alper noted for Pro Football Talk, Murray has been absent from voluntary organized team activities. Per Tyler Drake of 98.7 FM Arizona's Sports Station, Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury recently told reporters he expects his QB1 will attend mandatory minicamp that's currently scheduled to run from June 14-16.
