Dak Prescott feeling the pressure after offseason changes

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott feels the increasing pressure to end a 27-year championship drought after significant offseason changes.

On Wednesday, The Cowboys released three-time Pro Bowl RB Ezekiel Elliott, Prescott's teammate for his entire career and a close friend. Also, they recently parted ways with OC Kellen Moore, a coach or teammate of Prescott, throughout his career.

Dallas' willingness to cut ties with longtime pieces makes Prescott feel he must deliver.

"But now, as that's turned over, realizing that I might blink, and my career might be over with. The urgency is now. It's now or never. It's as simple as that, no sugar coating it," Prescott told The Athletic's Jon Machota on Thursday.

Prescott, a 2016 fourth-round pick (No. 135 overall), overachieved in seven seasons. He has a 61-36 starting record, made two Pro Bowls, and tied for the seventh-best passer rating among active passers.
Playoff success eluded him, however. Prescott has a 2-4 playoff record, including consecutive losses to the 49ers in 2021 and 2022.

It would be different if he carried an average team to the playoffs, but the Cowboys are loaded. They had seven Pro Bowlers last season, tied for second most.

Therefore, Dallas expects elite play from the QB. His results were a mixed bag in 2022. In 12 starts, he threw 23 passing TDs but threw a league-leading and career-high 15 interceptions.

Prescott must reduce turnovers and lead the Cowboys on a deep run; otherwise, Dallas will reconsider his future.

Per Spotrac, Prescott's contract has an opt-out clause in 2024. According to OverTheCap, the Cowboys can save $34M if they designate him as Jun 1. cut in 2024.

So the pressure to perform is on Prescott.
