Dallas Cowboys Hire Offensive Coordinator; Won’t Call Plays
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys hire an offensive coordinator

The Dallas Cowboys have a name with the title Offensive Coordinator” for 2023. The Cowboys parted ways with Kellen Moore after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round. It was a surprising move last week, as Moore was a highly regarded coach who was promptly hired by the Las Angeles Chargers within minutes of the Cowboys letting him go. Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones explained this week that there were “philosophical differences” between head coach Mike McCarthy and Moore.

According to Ian Rapoport with The NFL Network, The Cowboys have their next offensive coordinator. The Cowboys will promote in-house coaching analyst Brian Schottenheimer for the vacant position.

According to a statement by the Cowboys, Schottenheimer has decades of coaching experience in the NFL:

“The son of legendary coach Marty Schottenheimer, Brian has plenty of experience in the NFL coaching ranks as well as he just completed his 22nd season in the league…

This past year, Schottenheimer served as an offensive consultant for the Cowboys, but previously, he’s been an offensive coordinator in both Jacksonville, Seattle and the Rams, as well as quarterbacks coach for the Colts and Jets.”

Schottenheimer won’t call plays

According to Michael Gehlken with the Dallas Morning News, Schottenheimer is not expected to call the plays for the Cowboys next season. He has more of a figurehead title for the Dallas Cowboys.
