Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Is Lobbying For Major New Role
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys is a standout talent, showcasing his explosive defensive prowess with a keen ability to disrupt opposing offenses.

However, his versatility extends beyond the defensive realm as he expresses a desire to showcase his skills in various facets of the game, including kickoff returns.

Despite excelling as a linebacker-edge defender, Parsons has expressed interest in taking on the role of the team’s kickoff returner.

In a recent revelation on The Ross Tucker Podcast by Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel, it was disclosed that Parsons has actively campaigned for this position.

“You know Micah. He has lobbied me in the past to just be the primary kickoff returner. “I’m like, ‘Micah, that’s a question you’ve got to go a little further up than me on that one.’ But would I love to see him back there? Absolutely, because he would be fantastic. He would catch it and he’d run wild and he’d probably get incredible yards. But that ain’t going to happen. I’m aware of that.”

Fassel acknowledges Parsons’ potential in this role but emphasizes that the decision ultimately lies with higher authorities, who are wary of exposing their star defensive player to unnecessary risks on special teams.

While Fassel sees Parsons as a strong asset in kickoff coverage, concerns linger regarding the potential for injury. Parsons’ value to the team is undeniable, and jeopardizing his well-being on special teams is deemed too great a risk.

Additionally, some analysts suggest that Parsons, despite his explosiveness and agility, could benefit from adding bulk to better withstand the physical demands of his position over a grueling season.

Given Micah Parsons’ tendency to tire towards the end of the season, focusing on honing his existing skills rather than diversifying his repertoire may be a prudent strategy. Mastery of his craft in areas where he already excels could enhance his overall performance without compromising his durability or risking unnecessary injury.
