Josh Allen glad 2020 season showed Bills 'didn't make a mistake by drafting me'

It seems difficult to believe now but heading into this season, there was plenty of discussion about whether or not the Buffalo Bills had made a mistake drafting Josh Allen in 2018. But after the season, including getting the Bills to the AFC Championship Game, the third-year quarterback said he was glad that he showed that Buffalo was right to invest in him when he was a highly-talented but divisive NFL prospect. 

"I proved that they didn't make a mistake by drafting me, going back a few years ago," Allen said at his end-of-season press conference. "I got to continue to go out there and have that same mindset. I'm just trying to help this team win with whatever and whichever way that I can."

Allen certainly succeeded in helping his team win, as the Bills had one of the most potent offensive attacks in the league thanks in large part to their young quarterback, who earned some MVP buzz after throwing for over 4,500 yards while completing nearly 70% of his passes. With Allen under center, the Bills also managed to win a playoff game for the first time in nearly three decades and almost made it to their first Super Bowl since the Jim Kelly era before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

While Allen now looks like one of the top young quarterbacks in the game, this level of success looked like no sure thing for the first two seasons of his NFL career. Allen's talent as a passer was never in question but his poor decision-making and questionable mechanics caused many to wonder if he had what it took to be a long-term starter in the league.
