Lamar Jackson drops ringing endorsement of Ravens' Malik Cunningham signing
USA TODAY Sports

Lamar Jackson has reunited with Malik Cunningham.

The Baltimore Ravens officially signed Cunningham off the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Wednesday. The move was a long time coming for the Ravens, especially as they met with the former Louisville standout before the 2023 NFL Draft and showed an interest in signing him after he went undrafted. Months later, they finally managed to bring him in to round out their depth chart at the quarterback position.

Jackson and Cunningham were teammates at Louisville for one year. Cunningham redshirted his first year with the Cardinals in 2017, and he moved up a spot on the team’s depth chart at quarterback after Jackson declared for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Jackson kept a close watch on the rest of Cunningham’s run at Louisville and also continued to follow him during his time in the Patriots organization. Jackson sees a quarterback in Cunningham who has much potential.

"My brother right there, has all type of potential," Jackson said during a press conference on Wednesday. "Great quarterback. I've seen it first-hand when he was a freshman at Louisville. Obviously, I had to watch some of his high school highlights, because that’s just what we do; we love watching each other play football. … When he gets his chance to show the world, I believe people are going to see it — just not from college [but since] he entered the league — because we saw in preseason, when he was with the Patriots, little glimpses of it.

"But I just think the world of him. The sky is the limit for him."

Cunningham currently sits at the No. 4 spot on the Ravens’ depth chart out at quarterback, but he sure will receive an opportunity to be Jackson’s go-to backup at the position.
