NFL QBs promise trash talk in preview of 'The Match'

"The Match" has built itself on being a fun-filled event between golfers and often NFLers, featuring some friendly competition and good-natured smack talk. But the four NFL quarterbacks taking part in the newest installment of the golf event are promising to take things to the next level.

According to Aaron Rodgers, the event featuring the Green Bay Packers quarterback paired up with Tom Brady against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen promises to serve up a healthy helping of verbal jabs.

"When we started [in the NFL], definitely when [Brady] started and when I started playing, there was actual, real trash talk," Rodgers said, via ESPN. "Like, guys trash-talked each other and there was a lot of good s--- talk, and we knew who they were around the league," Rodgers said. "And now, it's more buddy-buddy, you know, social media following each other, memes, this emoji s---, and it's not the same."

Rodgers had mentioned that when he previously played in "The Match," his partner, pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau, had too many prewritten jokes. This would lead one to think these four competitors plan to talk their smack on the fly, although Allen joked he already thinks Brady has a team of writers working on material.

"I think once Tom's script from his team runs out of jokes, I don't think he's going to be able to really think on his feet like that," Allen said. "I feel like I've got a lot of practice and just kind of wit and off-the-cuff stuff. I think Aaron's a little better in that aspect, but yeah, Tom is going to have his little note card out there and he's going to run out eventually, and I don't think he's going to know what to do."

Sounds like the trash talk has started well before the foursome hits the links.

"The Match" airs on June 1 from the Wynn Las Vegas.
