Patriots QB Bailey Zappe reveals his strong message to Malik Cunningham after Ravens move
USA TODAY Sports

Malik Cunningham has found a new home in the NFL.

The Baltimore Ravens officially signed Cunningham off the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Wednesday. To make room for Cunningham on their 53-man roster, the Ravens placed wide receiver Devin Duvernay on the injured reserve list due to his back injury.

Cunningham and Bailey Zappe battled it out during the preseason to be quarterback Mac Jones’ go-to backup, and in the end, the former Western Kentucky passer edged out the former Louisville standout. Zappe was signed to the Patriots’ active roster ahead of the season, while Cunningham joined their practice squad.

Zappe will miss not seeing Cunningham in the Patriots organization anymore, but he is pleased to see him receive a crucial opportunity with the Ravens.

"Yeah, he's a great teammate," Zappe said during a press conference on Wednesday. "Of course, I was upset that he's not going to be here with us anymore, but I was also excited that he was getting an opportunity somewhere else. I believe he signed up to the 53, so that's a great opportunity for him.

"I texted him. I wished him all the best and told him to stay in contact. He's a great guy."

Cunningham spent much of his run in New England on its practice squad. Overall, he did not throw a single pass and featured in a mere six snaps on offense while with the Patriots.
