After having an impressive NFL Combine, rookie Jakorian Bennett was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Raiders. So far, Bennett has been a positive influence on and off the field for Las Vegas.

Bennett and his 4.3 40-yard dash speed was fully displayed during the preseason. Bennett routinely made his presence felt with his eagerness for more repetitions against Las Vegas' talented offense.

“I think the more eager they are to try to take reps and improve, I think that says something about them," said head coach Josh McDaniels. "We tell him all the time like we can see on the film if you're hiding too because you can see the whole line. If you’re way in the back and not getting any reps, which we're fortunate. We don't have anybody like that right now. They're all fighting to try to get up there, which is great.

With the start of the new season right around the corner, McDaniels has emphasized the importance of players challenging themselves daily.

"I think the more you challenge yourself, the more you learn, the more you feel what that's like. I'm sure Jakorian’s heart was racing a little quicker, but you got to get over that because Week 1 is a bunch of guys that are going to challenge you. Week 2, it's a different group, but it's the same thing. They're all really good players."

"So, the more you find out about yourself day to day, the more you ask of yourself, the more you challenge yourself, the better you're going to get. And I think he's mature enough, which is a word I’ve used a lot, to actually ask the guy on the other side of the ball, ‘Hey, what did you see there? Did I give it away?’ And so, I think the fact that they're willing to have and engage in those conversations is only a good thing. It's going to make them better.”

Bennett, a standout in college at the University of Maryland, has adjusted well to the professional level. "It's been great," Bennett said "I'm just really out there just trying to learn so I can better myself, so I can just help the team win games. "

"Good to be out there with people like Maxx [Crosby], MP [Marcus Peters], [Divine] Deablo, just all those guys, just kind of look up to them, see their routine, how they kind of maintain their bodies, talking with the safeties to try to learn the defense. But overall though it's been good."

Bennett was a part of the draft class the Raiders expect to be a part of their foundation. He showed flashes of his value to the team during the preseason, and Las Vegas will need him to continue to do so.

The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
