Steelers' Omar Khan does his best to keep trade talks a secret on national TV
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

If we know anything about GMs in the NFL, it's that being a master manipulator is part of their job description.

It may not be as important as roster construction or salary cap management, but knowing what to say, and how to say it is vital

And for the Pittsburgh Steelers, GM Omar Khan is as sly as they come with his words, doing his best during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to downplay recent trade rumors:

Khan Plays Coy

"You know what, I heard about it. I didn't exactly see it, but, you know, there's nothing going on right now. So, I'm not exactly sure what the verbiage was, what was reported, but nothing to report, Khan told The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

This directly disputes recent reporting from a variety of sources that states the Steelers are involved or at least were as of a few days ago, with multiple teams regarding multiple WRs.

Even former Steelers DB and Super Bowl champion Bryant McFadden joined in on the fun, telling everyone to keep an eye for Omar Khan

A recent report from Jarrett Bailey of the Touchdown Wire directly states that Pittsburgh has been involved with the Broncos in terms of acquiring Pro Bowl WR Courtland Sutton:

A source told Touchdown Wire that the Steelers, as well as the Los Angeles Rams, reached out to the Broncos about Sutton both before and during the NFL Draft- they were both turned down. There are plenty of connections with Sutton and the Steelers. He and quarterback Russell Wilson have a great relationship, and Sutton caught the most touchdowns in his career in 2023 (10) with Wilson as his quarterback. A source tells Touchdown Wire that Sutton and the Broncos are, in fact, not in good standing. The former Pro Bowl receiver wants a new contract, but the Broncos aren’t budging, citing the fact that Sutton still has two years left on his remaining deal.

There have also been reports of the Steelers doing their homework on Brandon Aiyuk, D.K. Metcalf, and Deebo Samuel.

So while I trust Omar Khan to do what's best for the team, there is a well-documented history of taking what GMs and coaches say at face value, which appears to be happening again here.
