Top 10 NFL free agents still on the market

NFL free agency has been pretty wild with former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rex Ryan calling Amari Cooper a "turd," but here we are.

Some notable players are still on the market for various reasons, so let's get into a list of the top 10.

1. Jadeveon Clowney (DL/LB)

There are a few teams who are desperate for a pass rusher, and Jadeveon Clowney is the biggest name left on the market. The three-time Pro Bowler comes with a hefty price tag, but he's moved off of his $20 million asking price.

The 27-year-old was the first-overall pick by the Houston Texans in 2014, and he's been productive since coming to the NFL out of South Carolina. He has 32 sacks in six seasons with 80 quarterback hits and 172 solo tackles in his career.

2. Everson Griffen (DL)

David Berding-USA TODAY Sports

Everson Griffen likely still is on the market because Clowney has yet to sign a deal. Griffen, 32, had eight sacks and 26 solo tackles last season with the Minnesota Vikings. The defensive end has 10 seasons under his belt and brings with him 74.5 sacks, 258 solo tackles, two interceptions, six fumble recoveries and a touchdown in that span.

He reportedly has interest in joining the Seahawks, but if Clowney returns to Seattle then that option will be off the table for Griffen.

3. Cam Newton (QB)

Cam Newton is a nine-year veteran who is coming off an injury-plagued 2019 season. The 31-year-old was released by the Carolina Panthers after they decided to sign Teddy Bridgewater as their new signal-caller.

Although Newton has dealt with many injuries over his career, he can be a solid backup, and at this point there probably isn't hope for him to become a starter with the options dwindling.

He's 68-55-1 in his career with a 59.6 completion percentage, 29,041 yards, 182 touchdowns and 108 interceptions. Much like Jameis Winston, taking a chance on Newton as a backup could pay dividends, but it is a gamble.

Newton is recovering from left foot surgery but is expected to be ready for the start of the 2020 season.

4. Logan Ryan (CB)

Logan Ryan would be a great addition for any team looking for help in the secondary. The 29-year-old has spent the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, helping them defeat the New England Patriots in the 2019 AFC wild-card round.

Ryan has four interceptions, five forced fumbles, 8.5 sacks and 177 solo tackles in his three-year Titans career. The cornerback was considered to have a "down year" in 2019, but he'd be a great piece for anyone needing a starter at that position.

5. Jameis Winston (QB)

Although the market for QBs like Jameis Winston is dwindling, he could make a solid backup for a few teams around the NFL. Winston didn't necessarily impress in five seasons with the Buccaneers, and his 2019 campaign was horrid — though he showed glimpses of the talent that made him the first overall pick in 2015.

He tossed 33 touchdowns last season but also had 30 interceptions, which led to Bruce Arians becoming frustrated with the quarterback. In 72 games, Winston is 28-42 with a 62.3 completion percentage, 19,737 yards, 121 touchdowns and 88 interceptions.

He's certainly a gamble but could potentially thrive in a backup role.

6. Markus Golden (OLB)

Markus Golden had a solid 2019 campaign with the New York Giants. He recorded 10 sacks, 37 solo tackles, 27 QB hits and a fumble recovery. The market for him likely is held up due to the fact Clowney is still available, but Golden is a solid option at the right price.

Although the 29-year-old is rather inconsistent, he's still among the best players available ahead of the 2020 season.

7. Jason Peters (OT)

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Jason Peters is getting up there in age, but he can still be a solid NFL starter. After 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Peters is on the market for the first time since 2008. He likely wouldn't have been a starter in Philadelphia after missing a good chunk of action the past few years, and that led to his release.

The 38-year-old has been limited by injuries over the last three seasons, and that's likely hurt his market. However, he's a solid pickup at the right price.

8. Bashaud Breeland (CB)

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Bashaud Breeland is a free agent after joining the Kansas City Chiefs last season on a $2 million deal. The 28-year-old cornerback helped solidify K.C.'s defense but tends to give up the deep ball.

In six NFL seasons, Breeland has 12 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 268 solo tackles and a sack.

Opposing quarterbacks completed just 48.4 percent of passes thrown towards him last season, and he'd be a great pickup for a team looking to add some depth moving forward.

9. Darqueze Dennard (CB)

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Darqueze Dennard was set to join the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the three-year deal fell through at the last minute. The 28-year-old has spent his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals but played just nine games last season due to injury.

In six seasons he's tallied three interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 200 solo tackles.

Doug Marrone said Dennard would've been a good fit in Jacksonville, but unfortunately things didn't work out.

10. Delanie Walker (TE)

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans released Delanie Walker after seven years with the organization. He's one of the last available tight ends on the open market, but he can be a solid fit for a team looking for a tight end... say the New England Patriots.

The 35-year-old played just seven games for the Titans in 2019 and had 21 receptions on 31 targets with 215 yards and two touchdowns. Walker has had four 800-plus yard seasons in the past six years and can be a solid addition for a team needing some depth in their offensive arsenal.

Honorable mention

Mike Daniels (DT), Prince Amukamara (CB), Cameron Wake (LB), Eli Apple (CB), Reshad Jones (S), Devonta Freeman (RB)
