Trent Brown says what everyone has been thinking about Malik Cunningham

Trent Brown had a lot to say about Malik Cunningham's time with the Patriots, and it started when the quarterback recently signed with the Ravens off New England's practice squad. 

Following the news, Brown posted a photo of Cunningham on social media, sending a very clear message, while also hinting at some problems. 

"@Malikc_3 go flourish where your talent is respected lil bradda," he wrote.

On Wednesday, Brown spoke with A to Z Sports exclusively about the entire situation and he didn't hold back. 

"It's funny because I told him months ago if they ever called, if anybody, that's the team where he should go," Brown said about the Ravens. "It was almost like I saw it coming."

"And that's really good for him to actually get a real chance to play his real position."

Cunningham signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. However, with numerous quarterbacks already on the roster, they opted to use him as a wide receiver. 

He made a strong impression during training camp and in the preseason, having one game that even Brown remembers. 

In the Patriots first preseason game, they hosted the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium and the offense couldn't get anything going. With just over nine minutes remaining in the game, Bill Belichick gave Cunningham a chance and he didn't waste any time. 

Showing off his impressive ability to run while also locating his receivers, Cunningham led the team down the field for their only drive resulting in a touchdown of the game. 

"I mean, probably the most exciting drive we had in that stadium was against Houston in preseason games this season," Brown said. "Like, my guy couldn't even get a red jersey."

Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, and the other quarterbacks who have rotated throughout the organization this season all wear red jerseys at practice. But despite taking reps as both a quarterback and receiver, Cunningham was never given one of those. 

Brown along with the entire fanbase couldn't understand why Cunningham never got a true chance to play quarterback. Especially with all the struggles the offense had. 

So when asked if he thought Cunningham deserved more of a chance to play, Brown said what he was truly thinking. 

"Absolutely," Brown told A to Z Sports. "Everybody on the team did. Everybody."

Now Cunningham gets the opportunity to work with his former Louisville teammate, playing behind Lamar Jackson. 

"I'm sure he's doing well. He's a great athlete. He's a great quarterback," Brown said. "Wasn't many opportunities he got to actually do it (here), but I definitely saw glimpses of him being a good quarterback. So, I wish him well. I wish him the best of luck. I'm glad he's in a better place."
