what really happened to pat tillman

Pat Tillman was a heroic face of the war on terror - an NFL star who left behind a $3.6 million contract and his new wife to fight for his country after the attacks of Sept. 11. When he died in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, the Army told his family he'd been killed by enemy fire after courageously charging up a hill to protect his fellow Army Rangers.

But as Katie Couric reports, that story didn't hold up. He had really been killed by friendly fire, shot accidentally by his fellow soldiers.

For the past four years, his family, led by his mother Mary, has been searching for answers about what really happened, beginning the day she heard the news from Pat Tillman's wife Marie.

We watched this interview last night and i thought i'd blog it up in case anyone wants to read it.

a video comes with it to, if you watched 60 minutes you know it was pretty thought provoking.

Tragic...... good post

did you watch the show? very thought provoking can't imagine what the families goin through

i hope this link works its the video that came with it

I hope his family gets the closure they seek. My brother served in Afganahnistan and Iraq in 02 and 03 with the 82nd Airborne as a Medic. That time was hard for our family to say the least. God brought him back to us.I could only imagine what the Tilman family is going through. No matter what happened, PT is a hero! And so are all the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces so that we can live in safety!

amen Mom2a2!!! thank your brother for us!!!
the show was hard to watch and even harder knowing what his mother is going through. his brother served (tillman's) in iraq with him 2. i preordered her book, i'm cery curious to read it!!
kevin & pat tillman

I will ck, thanx! And thank you Marko for posting this. We all have to be reminded!

as u say marko it provokes alot of thought and i might add emotion as well. when i think of it, it makes me angry, disappointed, sad, confused, hopeless, and manic. in the end it is what we do with all this emotion is what counts, coz PT is gone and aint never comin back, may he rest in peeace

well put my wife ordered the book so we'll read it together i'm still curious to see why they won't tell this familia anything. granted it's the military but still thanks for the input annt74

I am also very eager to read her book. This is a terrible tragedy made worse by lies and cover up.
Thank you for posting this. I think it is so important that his memory stays alive. He was a true hero!

thank you gswgirl for takin the time to read it.

Good post , Marko. Tillman was a hero no matter what the circumstances of this death were. That fact that he gave up so much to go defend his country makes him a hero. Too bad the government sees fit to hide the facts from his family. Of course, the gov't hasn't treated any of our veterans right since Vietnam.

FIVER, i gotta stand up & applaud you!!!!!!!

how true . anyone who lays there life on the line day in and day out even the police, anyone should be shown respect

great comment 5er, ya i remember when i heard bout PT givin up pro ball to be a soldier, not just any soldier but on the front lines, in the trenches as they say. first reaction was "is the guy crazy, stupid or what?" then i realized that this is the most unselfish, patriotic thing a US citizen can do. as his mom said "Pat did not lose his life, but gave it for you and all of his countrymen
