Flyers lose Kimmo Timonen for remainder of playoffs

The Flyers hopes to get past the Penguins and into the Stanley Cup Finals took a huge blow today when their best defenseman, Kimmo Timonen, was diagnosed with a blood clot in his ankle, effectively ending his season. Timonen's ankle felt sore ever since he was hit by a shot during the series with the Canadiens, so he went in for an exam today and the blood clot was discovered.

This is a big setback for the Flyers. Timonen and Braydon Coburn have done an excellent job neutralizing their oppositions best offensive players throughout the playoffs. It's the worst timing possible with the Flyers preparing to play a team with the offensive firepower that the Penguins feature. Expect more playing time for Randy Jones and Derian Hatcher and for Jaroslav Modry to get back on the ice after missing most of the last series.

This will make it really tough for the Flyers thin defensive group. You've got to feel for Timonen to work so hard and get this far only to have to watch from the sidelines.

reallllllly sucks. i still flyers in 6

Sami "special K" Kapanen will help on defense. Though loss but we will be fine.

Nice post but I can't believe so few responses, I know Philadelphia fans can't be sleeping. Rocky18 is on. Philadelphia is a terrible sports town. I can't believe the comments about Philly teams but wilth no resonses. If this was New England it would be a different story.

1 day after I pick the Flyers to upset Timmonen goes down for the playoffs. TIIIIGHT.

cant describe how mad i am about this, i feel like we have a snowballs chance now, to get this far and have such a HUGE IMPACT of an injury ruin hopes really pisses me off...say what u want, hes one guy, hes just a D man...youre crazy...he was MVP of the caps series for containing AO, played great D against an incredibly speedy canadiens team, and we really need him to shut down crosby and malkin...besides his on the ice skills, hes got a lot of heart that we WILL NEED in this series...also now we have to depend on derian hatcher...pretty sure he forgot how to skate...huge blow and im really disappointed

These guys did took a fan from each team and let them write their perspective on the series

This hurts!!! But I feel we will be fine...

jason2, what the hell did philly ever do to boston? u f**kers are in completely different conferences than us.

Jason 2!! Waht are you talking about you can't even spell!!!

If you're gonna criticize someone for spelling you should probably spell your post right.

what sorry...Typo

Yea that is why I put the Typo part right after.... lol

Their sports teams may suck but the cheese steaks are unbelievable. PHILLY SUCKS!!!

Boston fans are the most self-loathing babies on the planet. Get a life and get a clue you nitwit. There aren't a lot of posts because we know we'll win. Have fun watching from the pine you loser. BEAT IT DOPE!

Eskin215 way to give it to the moron!!!! How are the bruins doing this post season!!! Oh yea...they lost to the Habs!!!! and how are the Habs doing???

Wait.. Wasn't it Boston Radio back in 2004 when the Patriots were in the Super Bowl talking about how Doug Mientkiewicz "kept' the ball from the 2004 World Series and that's all they talked about? Please.. Your Team is in the Super Bowl? And all you can talk about is a damn Game Ball from three months prior???

Jason2 I see that you are now back.....hummmm.....When the Flyers defeated the Caps you disappeared and then yet again when we beat Montreal.......it seems you only show up to bark off negative comments at Philadelphia when they are losing......I guess that is why your name is Jason2 and not Jason1......It ain't over yet and yes.....Philadelphia is down but as in Rocky he went the distance and was still considered a winner.....whatever the outcome....this Philadelphia team is a winner and one I am very proud of.....
