LIST: My all time top 5 Nhl toughguys

These are my top 5. I am sure some will agree and some will not, that's what makes it fun. Can't wait for hockey to start.

  • 1
    Bob Probert

In his prime there was no one any tougher.

  • 2
    Joe Kocur

The single most devastating punch in hockey then or now.

  • 3
    Stan Jonathan

One of the toughest little men to ever drop the gloves

  • 4
    Marty Mcsorley

Maynot be the toughest but didn't back down from anyone

  • 5
    Tie Domi

Can't stand the little dude, but have to give him his due. He is one little tough s.o.b.

I like this list ,But I do feel DOMI should be # 2 . He always gave it his all . Did you ever see the scrap DOMI & PROBERT had that the next day the punch stats were in the newspaper ? , CLASSIC !

Dave Schultz from the Broad Street Bullies?? Get a clue...McSorely? I can think of 10 other guys tougher than him, easily.

Dave Schultz belongs on that list...an original and a lunatic!

Yeah, how can you not have Dave "The Hammer" Schultz? He almost killed Rangers defenseman Dale Rolfe.
McSorley isn't in the Top 50. Try Stu "The Grim Reaper" Grimson before McSorley.
Stan Jonathan is not in the Top 5. The Tasmanian Devil Terry O'Reilly should have Jonathan's spot.
For small guys, you also have Garry Howatt and P.J. Stock.

like he said eskin he isnt the toughest but he never backed down......

Are you referring to McSorely??
I'm not doubting or questioning his toughness, it's just that if you're guidelines for being a top tough guy in NHL history, there are 12,000 more people you could put on the list. (i know 12,000 is exagerated). But true tough guys not only don't back down, but they had the ability to bring bring someone within inches of death with their bare hands.
Dave "the Hammer" Schultz would abuse McSorely on his (Shultz) worst day, so he should be on the list in front of your boy, along with many others. Maybe Dave Brown, another former Flyer whose first instinct in a fight was to remove his helmet! I never saw McSorely drop the gloves AND hemet my friend.
Just a thought.

LOL man i know what you mean but yes i am referring to mcsorley... i do admit he was a goon but that goon never backed down and you werent doubting anything yes i kno but ive never seen him back down

if you are going to have domi on that list then you better have his arch-nemesis Rob Ray also. I mean, the guy beat up a fan.

I'd also vote for Terry O'Reilly

Well, that settles it.

We need a Top 10 Tough Guys List, utvolsfan!

Yeah this list is really lacking love for the old school tough guys.

Ok here ya go.

6. Mel Bridgeman

7. Dave Schultz

8. Terry O'reilly

9. John Kordic

10. John Wensink

Hope this is alittle better

Ok ok as requested lets expand this list alittle bit shall we.

6. Mel Bridgeman

7. Dave Schultz

8. Terry O'reilly

9. John Kordic

10. John Wensink

hope this makes some of ya alittle happy

Dave Semenko, George Larque, Dave Brown, crazy Dave Manson, Fergeson in Montreal...but yes Proby was the man, is the man and will always be the man. Domi very good, McSorley OK, Dave 'Tiger" Williams a super pest...but Proby was not only tough he made an Allstar game for hockey ability.
O'Riley, Kote, Grimson, Smyl, Clark, Shultz...tough bros....but Proby was most feared as Larque is today.
Probert is all time the nastiest dude to lace em up

Deffinitly shultz!!!
How about Hextall@@@@ He was the man...

Until his injuries, Tony Twist was the baddest dude to ever drop the gloves

II agree with Big bad Bob Probert - in his prime no one could hang with Bad Bob.

But here is my order:

1. Bob Probert - toughest son-of-a you know what I've ever seen.

2. Donald Brashear - thunderous force of power and grit with his jarring style.

3. Joe Kocur - sledgehammer right hand was the best in the business.

4. Jorge (The Roc) Laraque - really knows how to put punches together and is very strong on the take down.

5. Wendell Clark - he does not get much pub about his fighting prowess and never really looked to throw his weight around in that regard - but when someone pushed him, Clark would whip some A to the double S. In fact, Clark whipped your #5 guy's behind thoroughly in the 1993 Western Conference Finals when Toronto played L.A.

Correction, Wendell Clark whipped your #4 guy's behind!

Always liked Dave Brown, he didn't fight as much as most but he was as tough and intimidating as they come.
