NHL Round 3 Predictions

Well, I did awful last round. I went 1-3, only getting Detroit correct. I won't let that discourage me, however, because now I don't have any favorite teams or players that will sway my picks.

WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS

Detroit Red Wings vs. Dallas Stars

Dallas has clawed and scrapped their way all the way to the conference finals and it hasn't been an easy journey needless to say. Now to be the best they'll have to beat the best. Detroit is coming off a series where they obliterated the Avalanche. This should be more interesting than Detroit's previous series and this should be a real test of their skills when they go up against the red hot Marty Turco. If any of you missed that 7 period slug fest last night, you may want to go watch some of the highlights. However, as hot as Dallas may be, Detroit is Detroit. I have the Wings taking it in 6.

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers

I didn't pick the Flyers, but I did say they had a great chance to make it. They're here now, and now they have to try and take out the NHL's golden boy. The Penguins made Vezina hopeful Henrik Lundqvist look silly last series and the Pens will look to stay hot. What it will come down to is offense. By that I mean the Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the rest of the Penguins offense is so potent that I'm not really giving Philly a shot. But look on the bright side, Philly fans, I haven't picked you to win yet and you've kept winning. So, I guess it's good that I'm not picking the Flyers? I think that made sense. Anyways, I have the Penguins taking it in 5.

If all goes to plan, the NHL will have Sid the Kid in the Cup finals. We'll see if Gary Bettman's cash cow can go the distance. This should be two great series.

the canadiens had the number one offense in the league and look what happened to them..........offense doesnt win championships...goalies and defense does

The Penguins are hands down better than the Flyers and the Canadiens. It doesn't matter either way.

People forget that the Flyers are just as deep offensively as the Penguins are. R.J. Umberger has 9 goals. Briere has 8 and Richards and Carter each have 4. The Penguins only have 3 players in double figures for points. Flyers have 4. Many people like bzr here are sleeping on the Flyers. Bad move...Flyers in 6

Flyers fans should thank me for not picking them. They win when I pick their opponents. But the Penguins are hot. And what can I say, I may have been swayed a little by the trendy pick. I was really impressed with how they just dismantled the Rangers, who I thought had a chance at the finals.

I disagree completely with your Flyers vs. Penguins pick! You have not been right yet and the Flyers are playing with something the Penguins don't have.....HEART! Bring on the Crying Cosby because once the Flyers start hitting the Penguins the crying will begin. Fluery is swiss cheese, and who won the series in regular season.....I believe that was the Flyers 5-3. I actually enjoy you picking the Penguins because it has been great luck for the Flyers everytime you go against them!

u a pens fan bzr034??? i kno u say ur not but it sure sounds like ur ridin them. the flyers not only defeated the canadiens n the caps, but they also defeated the refs n the nhl damn it!!! u gotta give em their props. they overcame one of the biggest cases of cheating and favoritism that i have ever witnessed.

the fly guys are too deep....thats what no one understands....and vezina hopeful or not marty biron is the hottest goalie in the playoffs....as stuart scott would say the guy is straight up rediculous homie.....with our consistent production and unreal goaltending i say we have more than 1 win in us..i mean i think we take the series and shock the world but thats just me....i also think its disrespectful that u have us winning 1 game come on now!!! haha we'll see what happens

Now I will respond to everything that has been said. One, am I to understand the Penguins don't have heart? Two, regular season has nothing to do with the playoffs. Three, no I am not a Penguins fan. I am a Minnesota Wild fan. Four, I do give the Flyers props. Five, you think the refs were against them before, it's going to be 10x worse in this series. Six, the Penguins, believe it or not, are just as deep as the Flyers. Seven, Marty Biron may be hoping for a Vezina, but he won't win it. He is not a finalist for that award. Eight, I believe Marty Turco is the hottest goaltender thus far in the playoffs. Nine, I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I really only see Philly winning once. The Penguins are a machine right now.

With that all said, we'll just have to wait and see. Only time will tell.

flyers are too physical if the pens can beat the physicality they have a great chance of winning....the refs were against any team who played the canadiens...a team from canada would make it better for the league advertising if they won the cup or went to it....the pens flyers are gonna be more equally good calls and turco isnt the reason the stars are this far..biron is the MVP for the flyers so far in the playoffs....and if regular season means nothing then how bout the mavs vs warriors last year in the playoffs...regular season 4-0 were the 8th seed warriors against the mavs and guess what they won the series...the regular season gives a team confidence especially cuz the penguins are more talented then philly but philly has confidence...a lot of it.....and the the penguins arent as deep as philly

Turco has made all the difference in the world for the Stars. They wouldn't have made it past Anaheim, much less San Jose without him. I'm not saying he's the only reason, but he has been one of the biggest if not the biggest reason. As far as the Flyers, I'm not going to bother trying to prove any my points because it would be falling on deaf ears.

yea ur right man, it WILL be 10 times worse now that the flyers will play the pens. where r the days of fairness n decency?

We like to call that overtime when they don't call anything

Bzr034.......I say stick with the Penguins.......you have gone against the Flyers in every series and here we sit........I have all the confidence we will win more then one game and I say we win the series! We already took care of the #1 seed Canadians now we have our eyes set on that #2 seed......Hopefully the refs won't let Crosby pull his baby stuff diving all over the ice, Crosby can't play well against the Flyers because of the physical play and gets too caught up in it! Just something to hold to.....New York Giants WILD CARD......New England Patriots......Undefeated.....Who won the Superbowl?

If Crosby isn't getting his way, he'll surely get flustered. And if that happens, I hope someone goats him into a fight. I just think it's funny watching the golden boy get punched in the face. But, it's just the Pens have only lost 1 game all playoffs. I fail to see how they're not the hottest team in everyone's eyes.

(Note: Them being the hottest team doesn't by any means have to make you like them.) This little side note wasn't just for you, Alicia, but for all parties. Just a precaution.

I wouldn't say I hate the Penguins...just when they play the Flyers.....This is sure to be a good battle and I say bring out the blood in PA! I do have concerns with the Flyers and my main one is this long rest when they were playing so hot but, as a season ticket holder and a die heart Flyers fan since age 14........I will always keep the positive. I would love them to win both in PIttsburgh but, if not and being realistic, my hope is they will spilt then bring it back to their home ice.

On the day of the big game It is upsetting that the Flyers now lost Timonen......not good at all being he is the best defenseman against a very offensive team....Lets hope they can dig deep and continue to make us all proud!
