Stanley Cup Finals Prediction
Well, I was told I didn't know anything when I picked the Penguins in 5. We'll just leave that at that. I nailed both series last round getting both winners correct and in the correct amount of games. Now, what you've all been waiting for. The Stanley Cup Finals are upon us and we have a great match-up.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins The NHL got it's wish, their golden boy has made it to the finals. But, can Sid the Kid go the distance? Both teams are on fire, but you don't need me to tell you that. The Wings just finished up the Stars and have only lost 4 games throughout the playoffs. The Penguins have been slightly more impressive only having lost twice. All the stars are shining for both teams. Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Marian Hossa are having monster post-seasons as well as Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. As well as some of the supporting cast getting in on the big time performances for both teams in Johan Franzen and Ryan Malone. Both teams have had lock-down defense all playoffs and have each had stellar goaltending. Marc-Andre Fleury is making his bid for a Conn Smythe while Chris Osgood has done an amazing job for the Wings. What will it come down to? Consistency in goal is my answer. Fleury has had a better playoff run overall with the best record and a solid goals against average, but that shouldn't count Osgood out. Osgood has the league's best goals against average at 1.65 and while he only has 9 wins, one has to remember that Dominik Hasek started some games versus the Predators. These goalies have their work cut out for them when they'll face two of the scariest offenses in the game. It was hard for me to pick a winner, but in the end I had to go with experience. The league may want the Penguins to win this for revenues sake, but I'm sure their pockets won't be hurt too much if the Cup makes a return to the Motor City. I have the Red Wings taking the Cup in 7. I'm really looking forward to this series. It may not have been what I wanted from the get go of the playoffs, but I can hardly say I'll be disappointed if it can live up to the hype I know I will be hearing in the upcoming days. (Well, as much hype as hockey can get in the US, anyways.)
