Cardinals Roundup

With only ten days until the first training camp practices begin, the Arizona Cardinals negotiations with players have gone in both directions. Third round draft pick, WR Early Doucett, from Louisiana State, signed his contract today and will report on time to training camp. This is a good sign, considering the uncertainty of the status of WR Anquan Boldin.
Going in the other direction is LB Karlos Dansby. By not agreeing to an extended contract by today, he is not able to work on an extension until after the season ends, given that he has been tagged as the franchise player. This may be Dansby's last season in Arizona. It would be disappointing to see him have a great season only to see him enter the world of free agency and find his way on to a contender's roster. If Dansby does have an all-pro season, don't expect him to remain an Arizona Cardinal after 2008, no matter how much they offer him.
Hopefully there will be more good news to come in the upcoming week leading up to the start of camp. Only 10 days! Yeah! Go Cards!

Surefire top 10 fantasy WRs

These guys could easily make the list, but they didn't. deal with it.
Wes Welker-
lining up at number 2 instead of number 3 this season. means being covered by a cornerback not linebacker or safety. Still a safe top 15 WR but don't expect last years numbers again.
Chad Johnson-
this guy could very easily be number 1 or 2 on the list. He could also not play a down this season.... or turn the Bengals into the 2005 Eagles. Way too many question marks to make me feel safe drafting him high in any league.
Terrel Owens-
Age in catching up to this guy as well as the corners in the league. he is still great but I think we all saw his drops last year as well as the Cowboys Off. fade late season.
Anquan Boldin-
The Cards are to questionable to have 2 WRs top 10. If they come out of their shell then It's no stretch to see Quan n Fitz go number 1 and 2 fantasy, but we've been waiting so long for this now.
Torry Holt-
Like TO and 85 this guy has been a fantasy staple for years but there is no guarantee with age and the loss of Isaac Bruce and the terrible season the entire team had last years(I know there were many injuries).

Top 15 Receivers in the NFL

Here is my list for the top fifteen wide receivers in the league. This is not for fantasy but the total receiver.

1. Randy Moss- 23 tds and nearly 1500 yards makes you the top receiver in the league. Moss is on his way going to the hall playing with Tom Brady and the every year super bowl contending Patriots.

2. Larry Fitzgerald- When he is healthy, he is a lock to get 1,409 yards and 10 touchdowns. Just look at his 2005 and 2007 stats.

3. Terrell Owens- TO always finds the end zone but is behind Fitz because of his drops.

4. Reggie Wayne- Peyton's new favorite target is a Top 5 receiver with or without Marvin Harrison.

5. Braylon Edwards- Third year breakout happened for Braylon, scoring 16tds. Can only get better for Braylon, with Stallworth coming in to be a solid #2.

6. Chad Johnson- 5 straight pro bowls...but gets out of hand way too much

7. Steve Smith- Never had the quarterback and a good supporting cast to be as great as he can be. With Delhomme coming back from Tommy John Surgery, could get closer stats to his 2005 dominate season.

8. Andre Johnson- Like Steve Smith without the good team, Andre is the face of the Texans and will be probably be top 5 when the season ends.

9. Torry Holt- 8 straight years with 1000 yards, but at age 32 your numbers only go down...Unless your TO

10. Anquan Boldin- One of the few complete receivers in the NFL, Anquan can do it all whether it is blocking, breaking a tackle, or catching the ball.

11. Plaxico Burress- Burress is a prime time player that always comes to play in the big games.

12. Roy Williams- Put Roy on any of the listed players teams ahead of him, he would be higher on the list. With a bad offensive line, running game, and quarterback Roy does pretty well. Should benefit with Gosder Cherilus and Kevin Smith coming in. A healthy Calvin will only help out Roy's #s.

13. Brandon Marshall- If Baby TO gets his act together, he can put up insane numbers.

14. Marques Colston- Will make the pro bowl if he continues his incline in numbers.. Not hard to have good stats, when your quarterback throws 652 times.

15. TJ Houshmandzadeh- Low on the list because he benefits with Chad Johnson and Carson Palmer on his team.. Stats are inflated

Analysis of a dynasty draft

My first dynasty draft now has moved past six rounds, and it is time to hand out some very early grades on all the participating teams.

But first, here is an update on how my team — Massive Hits — looks so far.

You guys already know I grabbed runningbacks with my first two picks. Clinton Portis and Reggie Bush should be able to score well in this point-per-reception (PPR) league and give me a nice foundation. In rounds 3 and 4 I grabbed two starting wide receivers in Terrell Owens and Anquan Boldin.

Being that Owens is a little on the old wise side, I decided to grab a young up-and-comer to fill the No. 3 WR starting spot on my team. Luckily, the guy I wanted fell to me in the 5th round — Kansas City's Dwayne Bowe.

Projecting: Top 15 Fantasy Wide Receivers

In most fantasy football formats, wide receivers are the third most important position. If you draft accordingly, you could be put in a good position right away. Unfortunately, if you draft poorly, it could be all downhill from there. Screaming Sports' Hugh Duckwall is here to examine the top 15 projected wideouts.

tcbailey24's Top 20 Wide Receivers

The wide receiver position in the NFL is very talented and full of playmakers. It's hard to make a top 20 list, but I tried and here is my list. Hope you enjoy!

1.Randy Moss, Patriots: Moss was outstanding last season in his first year with Tom Brady and the Patriots. Moss broke the single season TD catch record with 23 grabs and help lead the Patriots to a 16-0 regular season record and a Super Bowl appearance.

2.Terrell Owens, Cowboys: T.O. had another great season last year and has become one of the most consistent WR the NFL has seen in a while. Owens shows every year that he is a dominant receiver, and last year was no exception. He had over 1300 yards and 15 TD's.

3.Reggie Wayne, Colts: With Marvin Harrison out for most of the year last season, Wayne knew he had to setup, and did he ever. He had the best season of his career by far, grabbing 104 passes and gaining 1510 yards.

4.Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals: Even though Fitz plays for the Cardinals, he still is able to put up big numbers and be a threat. Last season he tied his career high in yards and TD's.

5.T.J. Housmandzadeh, Bengals: Though he might be over looked sometimes due to Chad Johnson, T.J. has been just as good as Chad the past year or two. His 12 TD's and 112 receptions were both better than Chad, and he has become Carson Palmer's favorite target.

6.Braylon Edwards, Browns: Edwards had a breakout year last season as he improved in every statistical category by far. With Derek Anderson solidly at the head, it could mean another fantastic season for Braylon this year.

7.Chad Johnson, Bengals: Ocho Cinco was very consistent again last season as he put up his usual big numbers. What is even better is that Chad continues to be great along side another outstanding wide out in T.J. Housmandzadeh.

8.Steve Smith, Panthers: Steve may not be the biggest or tallest receiver out there, but he plays like it. He is always a deep threat and you can count on him to make the big play.

9.Andre Johnson, Texans: Dre might be the most underrated receiver in the NFL. You don't here a lot about him like Ocho or T.O., but he is turning into a real good receiver. He only played nine games last season, but was on pace for career best numbers.

10.Torry Holt, Rams: Holt has been a staple in the NFL for years for being one of the best receivers the game has to offer. Every year, no matter what, you know he will produce and get his numbers. You can count on him to make plays.

11.Anquan Boldin, Cardinals: Quan doesn't have the numbers Fitz has, but they are nothing to slouch about. 9 TD's for a guy who is on the other side of Fitz is real good. He is also a receiver you can trust as a QB to make the clutch plays.

12.Roy Williams, Lions: Roy might not have had the best numbers last year, but he definitely was key in the Lions pass happy offense. Without Roy, what would have the Lions been? He does make some incredible catches as well.

13.Marques Colston, Saints: Some have said that Colston is overrated. How? Everyone said he had a great rookie year and now he is overrated after he put up better numbers than in his first year? Not a chance. Colston is solid overall, especially with Drew Brees throwing to him.

14.Brandon Marshall, Broncos: B-Marsh was an absolute beast last year. He gathered up 102 receptions and over 1300 yards and quickly became Jay Cutler's favorite target. Even with his recent arm injury, I still expect big this again from Marshall this season.

15.Wes Welker, Patriots: Welker had a breakout year last year, but what else do you expect from a guy who was on the Patriots? He's not the biggest guy, but his game is huge as he was maybe more consistent than All Pro Randy Moss last season.

16.Plaxico Burress, Giants: Plax is a real big receiver that can dominant a corner physically through a game and his height helped him reel in 12 TD's last season. Oh yeah, he also had the game winning TD catch in the Super Bowl.

17.Hines Ward, Steelers: Though Ward is smaller than other receivers, he might be the toughest around. He doesn't have mind-boggling numbers, but he is solid and is an outstanding blocker. He plays with a lot of heart.

18.Marvin Harrison, Colts: Marvin was unfortunate last year as he was out for most of the season with an injury, but that isn't saying he can't come back this season and produce again. If anyone could, it would be Harrison who has been one of the greats.

19.Lee Evans, Bills: Evans has had some good seasons with Buffalo, but I think this year will be his best yet. With Trent Edwards becoming a solid QB, Evans could have a huge season numbers wise, as he will be the main target in the offense.

20.Donald Driver, Packers: Driver is another receiver who basically knows what he has to do to get it done. His numbers aren't huge, but he will consistently make big catches and be a good target for Aaron Rodgers to gain confidence with.

On The Turning Away: Teams To Tank In 2008

Here are the five playoff teams that will miss the postseason this upcoming season. These are in no particular order.
1. Tennessee Titans: The Titans got in by sneaking past the Colts backups last year. They showed that they had no reason to be in the playoffs with a sad performance by the team against the San Diego Chargers. The Titans are lead by a ridiculously overrated QB in Vince Young and on defense, Albert Haynesworth, whose contract issues may have an effect on the team's morale if nothing happens in the next four weeks. The Titans have no wide receivers and too many overrated running backs. Their defense is great, but unless they can score points, this team is finishing 4th in the AFC South, 9th in the AFC.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers won the AFC North last year, but it wasn't too convincing. The Browns almost caught them at the end of the season, and the Steelers ended up bowing out in the first round of the playoffs to the Jags. The Steelers have the toughest schedule in the NFL, and the offensive line is just horrible. Instead of drafting a running back, how about they go after an offensive guard so Willie Parker can end the season in one piece? The Steelers will finish 2nd in the AFC North, 7th in the AFC.
3. Washington Redskins: The Skins made a nice run at the end of the season, playing for fallen teammate Sean Taylor, but that won't carry over to next year. Jason Campbell is a mediocre quarterback, and there is nothing special on the defensive side of the ball. Carlos Rodgers is recovering from a knee injury, and the secondary continues to lose its depth. The Skins will finish 4th in the NFC East, 10th in the NFC.
4. Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks run will come to an end next year. Somehow they won the West in 2007, but the Cardinals are just too good on offense now. If the Cards are smart and start Kurt Warner, the Cardinals could possibly get a bye in the NFC. That's how confident I am in Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Edgerrin James. The Seahawks do not have the firepower to keep up with the Cardinals' offense. Hasselbeck is a nice quarterback, but he has absolutely no targets at all. The wide receivers are aging. The running backs are overrated. The loud crowd at Quest can't save this team. The Seahawks will finish 2nd in the NFC West, 7th in the NFC.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: This is the most obvious one. The controversy with Jeff Garcia, the defense qualifying for the senior discount at Old Country Buffet, and the bad coaching from an overrated hothead in John Gruden will destroy this team. The Bucs can't depend on an old wide receiver in Joey Galloway as he is their only proven target on offense. This team will suffer a major collapse. No NFC South team has repeated as champions. That won't change with the New Orleans Saints winning this pathetic excuse of a conference. The Seahawks will finish 2nd in the NFC South, 12th in the NFC.

Boldin Thinking Extended Vacation

Anquan Boldin is thinking about not attenting training camp in July. My thoughts on why he may be thinking that and why I think he should be in camp on time.

Boldin Thinking Extended Vacation

Maybe it really is the movies? Maybe its the idea of going and hanging out with Michael Strahan or Brett Favre? Maybe it's just the possibility that Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin feels like the ugly stepchild or maybe feels like Jerry Maguire did when his whole world came crashing down on him, the one he loved so much but then got betrayed by in short order. Whatever the reason for coming out today and saying he may not make it to training camp in July, one thing is for sure - Boldin is an unhappy dude.
As I've stated before, 'Quan deserves all the accolades he gets. He is a top tier NFL Receiver. He helped put the Arizona offense back on the map five years ago. With him and WR Larry Fitzgerald, they probably are amongst the top five WR duo's in the NFL. It's just he seems to be spending more time these days worrying about a new contract, which should be a moot point considering he is already under contract for three more seasons. The Cardinals have stated they plan on working on a contract for Boldin. What reasons Boldin has not to believe them, I may never know. What I do know is that the Cardinals have seemed to have treated him with respect and have said all the right things during this period of uncertainty.
AZcardinals.com quoted Boldin as saying about his prospects of being at camp "I honestly can't say at this point." Why not? Again, Boldin is under contract. Its one thing to be a free agent, but that statement tells me he is seriously considering boycotting camp, at least in the beginning.
I can think of a few possible reasons why Boldin would want to skip camp.
A) The drive to Flagstaff is too far, given today's average gas price of $4.08 per gallon.
B) He's afraid of slipping on the millions falling out of Fitzgerald's pocket during practice
C) He doesn't want to miss the July 25th opening of the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly comedy Step Brothers
D) He'll be spending hours on Ebay trying to scoop up tickets to Cardinals home games for his family since he certainly isn't making enough to put food on the table, much less pay for tickets to a game.
Whatever the reason really is, he should spend less time on the Rod Tidwell train, and instead of asking the Cardinals to "show me the money", he should go out on the field and prove he can rise above it and remember, no, live the words of Jerry Maguire who said, "think about back when you were a little kid. It wasn't about the money, was it? Was it?"
I don't think it was, but you don't need me to tell you or him that.
