Projecting: Top 15 Fantasy Wide Receivers

In most fantasy football formats, wide receivers are the third most important position. If you draft accordingly, you could be put in a good position right away. Unfortunately, if you draft poorly, it could be all downhill from there. Screaming Sports' Hugh Duckwall is here to examine the top 15 projected wideouts.

Rotowhine's 2008 Fantasy Football Mock Draft, Part I

Jeff and Greg flip the pigskin around for their first NFL mock fantasy draft, and not a moment too soon. With both of their baseball seasons careening into a dark chasm, the colicky couple need to be pacified, and fast. Neither of them have done a stitch of research for this draft, but they both believe that gives them a strategic advantage. Who the hell can predict anything in football? Not these two, but that's not going to stop them from trying.

2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Projections - San Diego Chargers

2007 was supposed to be the year for the San Diego Chargers… supposed to be. Following a 1-3 start, many questioned the team, especially that first overall pick for many fantasy football owners, LaDanian Tomlinson. It's hard to believe, but Tomlinson had a whopping 130 rushing yards entering week 4. He proceeded to total 132 rushing yards in that game, leading many to believe he was back on top. Congratulations to those of you who bought low early, knowing that Tomlinson wouldn't stay quiet throughout the season. However, week 5, Tomlinson was back to his early season ways, rushing for only 67 yards against a Denver Broncos team the Chargers beat by 38 points. Again, congratulations to those of you who bought low. The reason why?... Tomlinson finished the season with 1474 yards, 19 total touchdowns (including the one he threw), 60 receptions, and 475 receiving yards. Further, the massive stretch run weeks 14-16, likely carried many of his owners to the fantasy football championship. I'm pretty sure Webster's Dictionary has placed a picture of LT next to the word "stud".

As for the rest of the Chargers, quarterback Phillip Rivers was a bit of a...

Fantasy Football: Is there a Raider in any top 5 list?

Tonight, I'll be representing MVN in an expert fantasy football mock draft at one of our partner sites, Mock Draft Central. The site was created to give any fantasy junkie the chance to participate in multiple mock drafts in order to prepare to out draft their league foes when the real draft came around. If you're into fantasy sports at all, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check this site out. It will definitely give you the opportunity to see if that guy you think is a sleeper pick truly IS a sleeper. In the spirit of being prepared to 'represent,' I tallied a list of top 5's at the QB, RB, TE, WR, and K positions. Let's see how I did...

tcbailey24's Top 20 Wide Receivers

The wide receiver position in the NFL is very talented and full of playmakers. It's hard to make a top 20 list, but I tried and here is my list. Hope you enjoy!

1.Randy Moss, Patriots: Moss was outstanding last season in his first year with Tom Brady and the Patriots. Moss broke the single season TD catch record with 23 grabs and help lead the Patriots to a 16-0 regular season record and a Super Bowl appearance.

2.Terrell Owens, Cowboys: T.O. had another great season last year and has become one of the most consistent WR the NFL has seen in a while. Owens shows every year that he is a dominant receiver, and last year was no exception. He had over 1300 yards and 15 TD's.

3.Reggie Wayne, Colts: With Marvin Harrison out for most of the year last season, Wayne knew he had to setup, and did he ever. He had the best season of his career by far, grabbing 104 passes and gaining 1510 yards.

4.Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals: Even though Fitz plays for the Cardinals, he still is able to put up big numbers and be a threat. Last season he tied his career high in yards and TD's.

5.T.J. Housmandzadeh, Bengals: Though he might be over looked sometimes due to Chad Johnson, T.J. has been just as good as Chad the past year or two. His 12 TD's and 112 receptions were both better than Chad, and he has become Carson Palmer's favorite target.

6.Braylon Edwards, Browns: Edwards had a breakout year last season as he improved in every statistical category by far. With Derek Anderson solidly at the head, it could mean another fantastic season for Braylon this year.

7.Chad Johnson, Bengals: Ocho Cinco was very consistent again last season as he put up his usual big numbers. What is even better is that Chad continues to be great along side another outstanding wide out in T.J. Housmandzadeh.

8.Steve Smith, Panthers: Steve may not be the biggest or tallest receiver out there, but he plays like it. He is always a deep threat and you can count on him to make the big play.

9.Andre Johnson, Texans: Dre might be the most underrated receiver in the NFL. You don't here a lot about him like Ocho or T.O., but he is turning into a real good receiver. He only played nine games last season, but was on pace for career best numbers.

10.Torry Holt, Rams: Holt has been a staple in the NFL for years for being one of the best receivers the game has to offer. Every year, no matter what, you know he will produce and get his numbers. You can count on him to make plays.

11.Anquan Boldin, Cardinals: Quan doesn't have the numbers Fitz has, but they are nothing to slouch about. 9 TD's for a guy who is on the other side of Fitz is real good. He is also a receiver you can trust as a QB to make the clutch plays.

12.Roy Williams, Lions: Roy might not have had the best numbers last year, but he definitely was key in the Lions pass happy offense. Without Roy, what would have the Lions been? He does make some incredible catches as well.

13.Marques Colston, Saints: Some have said that Colston is overrated. How? Everyone said he had a great rookie year and now he is overrated after he put up better numbers than in his first year? Not a chance. Colston is solid overall, especially with Drew Brees throwing to him.

14.Brandon Marshall, Broncos: B-Marsh was an absolute beast last year. He gathered up 102 receptions and over 1300 yards and quickly became Jay Cutler's favorite target. Even with his recent arm injury, I still expect big this again from Marshall this season.

15.Wes Welker, Patriots: Welker had a breakout year last year, but what else do you expect from a guy who was on the Patriots? He's not the biggest guy, but his game is huge as he was maybe more consistent than All Pro Randy Moss last season.

16.Plaxico Burress, Giants: Plax is a real big receiver that can dominant a corner physically through a game and his height helped him reel in 12 TD's last season. Oh yeah, he also had the game winning TD catch in the Super Bowl.

17.Hines Ward, Steelers: Though Ward is smaller than other receivers, he might be the toughest around. He doesn't have mind-boggling numbers, but he is solid and is an outstanding blocker. He plays with a lot of heart.

18.Marvin Harrison, Colts: Marvin was unfortunate last year as he was out for most of the season with an injury, but that isn't saying he can't come back this season and produce again. If anyone could, it would be Harrison who has been one of the greats.

19.Lee Evans, Bills: Evans has had some good seasons with Buffalo, but I think this year will be his best yet. With Trent Edwards becoming a solid QB, Evans could have a huge season numbers wise, as he will be the main target in the offense.

20.Donald Driver, Packers: Driver is another receiver who basically knows what he has to do to get it done. His numbers aren't huge, but he will consistently make big catches and be a good target for Aaron Rodgers to gain confidence with.

Donovan McNabb: The Definition of Perseverance

With the second pick in the 1999 NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select, Donovan McNabb quarterback from Syracuse University. A loud roar erupted from the Eagles fans who attended the draft that year. Cheering and screaming. D-Mac! Super Five! Sure. In Donovan's perfect world, that is how it happened. In reality, Donovan's draft day was a nightmare. He walked onto the stage with a great, big smile. He put on the Eagles cap and held up his jersey and ignored the boo's and complaints that the fans were shouting. The obvious pick was Ricky Williams. The Eagles should have taken the strong, powerful running back out of Texas and built around him. That is how the fans wanted it, but Andy Reid had different plans. Well, you all know where Ricky is now.

The fans did not get what they wanted, and McNabb did not get what he deserved. Now, looking back, we got exactly what we wanted. But Donovan still did not get what he deserved. After entering the league, Donovan has been faced with adversity everywhere he turned. But the five-time pro bowler did not want to hide. He stood and took the comments made by Rush Limbaugh like a man, and moved past it. In September of 2003, on NFL Countdown, Rush Limbaugh said that the NFL likes seeing black quarterbacks succeed, so McNabb is getting credit that he does not deserve for a team that is carried by it's defense. Was it fair for Limbaugh to say such comments? No. Did it affect McNabb in any way on the field? No. Enough said.

Donovan brought the team to 3 straight NFC Championships. Still no Superbowl. Three in a row. Losses. The Rams stole the game when Aeneas Williams intercepted McNabb to end the Eagles hopes of a Superbowl appearance. The following year it was the same deal when Ronde Barber of Tampa Bay picked off a pass in the red zone, and returned it 94 yards for a touchdown. In the 2003-2004 they went back to the NFC Championship and it wasn't decided on a crucial, game ending interception. In fact, it was four interceptions, three to Ricky Manning Jr. The Eagles only scored 3 points in that entire game. Again, disappointment. Three straight years, three straight losses. Was it McNabb's fault? Sure looked like it.

In the offseaon after the 2003-2004 season was over, Andy Reid went out and spent money on Terrell Owens. The flashy, flamboyant receiver who had issues with the San Francisco 49ers. Although he had character issues, the Eagles knew what he would bring to the team. Sure enough, 14 touchdown catches later, the Eagles found themselves at the top of the NFC East again. Owens and McNabb were unstoppable and not only did Owens have a great season, McNabb was the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for over 30 touchdowns and under 10 interceptions in a single season. In week 15, with the division and home field advantage clinched, Terrell Owens was tackled by Cowboys safety Roy Williams and his leg was broken. He limped into the locker room and sure enough, his season was over. Donovan McNabb went on to say that the Eagles could win the Superbowl without Owens. The Eagles beat the Vikings in the divisional round and the Falcons in the NFC Championship (4th straight appearance) to finally make it to the big game. Owens came back, he was not at 100%, but he could run. He had a tremendous game, but the Eagles lost the game as McNabb threw 3 interceptions and the clock management is still being criticized today.

So the offseason is coming, and the Eagles are favorites to win the Superbowl. I could show the world every magazine I bought that picked the Eagles to win the Superbowl. I was so excited for the next season. Not so fast. Terrell Owens wanted to restructure his contract and did it the wrong way. He fired his agent, hired Drew Rosenhaus, and went public with the request. Soon enough Terrell Owens was talking bad about Donovan McNabb and the Eagles. So of course, Donovan McNabb is again being criticized. Before the season started, Owens and McNabb went back and forth exchanging words but still ended up playing together for half of the season. Owens was then suspended and eventually released by Philadelphia. The Cowboys picked him up.

October 8, 2006- Cowboys @ Eagles: The Philadelphia Eagles had to show up against the division rival. McNabb was again under the spotlight because Terrell Owens was coming to town. McNabb was criticized of being a baby, not being able to deal with Terrell Owens and letting him get inside his head. On this day McNabb blocked all that out and played football. The Eagles won 38-24 and McNabb silenced critics, atleast for a while.

Donovan McNabb's injuries have been a big part of his career as well. McNabb suffered a broken ankle in 2002 that sidelined him until the playoffs. The year after they went to the Superbowl, McNabb was hit in the chest in week one and suffered a sports hernia which needed to be surgically repaired. McNabb's season ended when he chose to undergo surgery to heal his injury. In 2006, two years removed from the Superbowl, one year removed from the Terrell Owens incident, Donovan McNabb's season was ended again. This time it was week 11 against Tennessee. Donovan tore his ACL and had to get surgery again, missing the rest of the season. Donovan's absence wasn't the only topic of discussion that year. It was more the way that Jeff Garcia lead the team, a team that looked dead at 5-6, to the playoffs. He lead them to 5 straight wins, 3 coming away against the division rivals. Garcia then won a playoff game but lost to New Orleans in the divisional round. So do we have a quarterback competition now? Is Garcia the right player for the Eagles to keep? Should McNabb be traded? All these questions were being asked and no one knew the answers.

One year after his knee surgery, Donovan had an average season. Of course everyone knows it takes time for a surgically repaired knee to really recover. It takes atleast a year and a half. Eagles fans, ESPN analysts, or whoever did not care. We all expected McNabb to be at the top of his game. He was not close. So more adversity struck when McNabb was injured and had to sit out the game against the undefeated Patriots. AJ Feeley's heroic efforts came up just short as the Eagles lost by 3. This loss was no normal loss. No team was able to keep up with New England all year and the Eagles only lost by 3? No way. So now A.J. was the new Garcia if you will. Everyone talked about him starting. The next week he threw four interceptions in a loss to the Seahawks that did all but eliminate the Eagles from the playoffs. So of course, the definiton of perseverance, Donovan McNabb finished the season strong. Three convincing wins. One over a Cowboys team that was a favorite to play in the Superbowl on the road. One against a Saints team that was playoff bound, until of course we beat them. The last game was at home against the Bills and Westbrook broke Eagles franchise records. Three great wins. No season ending injury. No offseason spent doing tons of rehab. No bad mouthing. No naysayers. No team distractions. Just training camp is what lies ahead of Donovan now.

So where do you see Donovan McNabb next year? I see him on top of his game. Ready to attack and ready to run for the Lombardi Trophy. Despite shoulder tendonitis, which again has critics talking about his durability, Donovan is ready to go! Training camp in July will prepare Donovan and the team for a long season ahead. With number 5 healthy, only good things can happen.
