Red Sox v White Sox: Bowden Solid in MLB Debut

With Beckett's arm remaining uncomfortably numb, the Sox handed the ball to the organization's top pitching prospect: Michael Bowden. Heading into last night's start, the 21-year-old had a record of 0-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 6 starts at Pawtucket. Prior to his promotion to Triple A, Bowden had a much...<br/>

The Red Sox still have sock...

Alot of people would not believe that the Sox are still in second place and only 4 games behind Tampa after witnessing the dismantle of the team, and the soap opera of Mannys departure. We came through alot of stuff and we still have been able to step it up and play hard baseball. Almost everyone has been ridden with injuries, soemthing that would cause the team to crumble. Alot of people said to us, "good luck" after Manny left. Or "you wont make the playoffs" when injuries started piling up.

I know the seasons not over yet, but seeing how we still are in 2nd place. Eevn without Manny, and with ALL the injuries coming our way, the Sox have done a great job this month. With help from Bay (who has erased Manny's name from the minds of Sox fans), Pedroia (who is showing everyone just cuz hes little, and has a weird swing, doesnt mean he cant be a great hitter) and Youkilis (who has been in the MVP talks).

Jed Lowrie is just absolutely excellent. I hope he takes Lugo's spot. Becuase he is batting good with people on base. And excellent overall. Big Papi came through during the Yank series... hope he continues.

But overall, we have deified odds. Having Lowell, Drew, Beckett injured,Wakefield coming off of it recently, and Curt Schilling no where to be found, Clay Bucholz, Julio Lugo, David Aardsma and Bartolomew Colon all on DL list would have hurt our team. Or anyones team if they had that many people on injury list. ( *COUGH* COUGH* Yankees)

How do you come back from all those injuires?? Well the Sox have done it.. and have shown it in the past month of August.

The other players have stepped it up. Hitting better than they did in July, and still making us a contender for the postseason..

Inside the Box August 25th Edition

Today's dig features two players going after career bests in OBP. One is challenging for a spot on the top 100 list of all-time while the other hopes to beat .305 in his eighth season in the majors. Also a young shortstop hopes that having better offense and defensive stats will be more important than contract size while a center fielder wonders about his eight-figure option. And lots more.

Julio Lugo suffers a setback

I'm going to try and put this as positively as possible. Our currently disabled shortstop, Mr. Julio Lugo, has suffered a massive setback in his rehabilitation. He did a few wind sprints in the outfield before last night's game and ended up having to shut it down because he felt 'something.'

A bit of bad news for Sox fans

I've got a bit of (tongue-in-cheek) bad news for Red Sox fans. Julio Lugo swung a bat (and probably missed) for the first time yesterday since straining his left quadriceps on July 11th. MLB.com gives an estimated return date for Lugo as September 1st. That is the same day that rosters expand, so nobody will have to leave the club for Lugo to rejoin it.

All of that is fine and well but it brings up the bigger issue of who is going to be the starting shortstop?
