Josh Smith and Emeka Okafor Among Players Expected to Change Teams

This off-season has been a star-studded event more so than any other off-season in recent memory. You have guys that are perennial All-Stars and home town favorites moving. Who would have expected Baron Davis to be moving before the off-season started? I certainly couldn't imagine him in any other uniform besides the Warriors, but all of a sudden he is wearing Clipper red and hoping to play well in the revamped team.

Camby Trade Confusing for Clippers

Seemingly lost in the shuffle of Brett Favre's sandy vagina and last night's All Star Game was a trade between the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets. Just a few days after being slighted by Elton Brand, the Clippers seemingly picked up a steal in acquiring shot-blocking extraordinare Marcus Camby for a future exchange of [...]

What now for Josh Smith? Back to the Hawks...

It looks like the once hot market for Hawks forward Josh Smith has cooled considerably to the point that the only team that will offer him max money is his own, the lowly Atlanta Hawks. OK, so they made the playoffs last season and gave the Celtics a scare, but do you really think this is the best place for him long term? After the Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, and Marcus Camby transactions, Smith really is the odd man out. One of the biggest problems is the relationship between Coach Mike Woodson and Smith, which is reported to be "beyond repair". Will he opt for the most money but a potentially bad situation (Hawks) or take less for a better situation? I think we all know the answer to that...we'll see him in Atlanta next year but he won't be happy.

Clippers Acquire Marcus Camby

The Los Angeles Clippers made a move to help sure up their front line after the loss of Elton Brand to the Sixers just a few days ago. They made a trade with the Denver Nuggets to acquire Marcus Camby, a defensive guru at center, for only the option for the Nuggets to swap second round picks in 2010.

Nuggets trade Marcus Camby for... what?!?!

Let's see, how much is a seven-footer worth? Not much, you say? What if that seven-footer is a still-productive center and a former Defensive Player of the Year? What if he averaged at least 3.0 blocks per game in each of the last four seasons? How about a minimum of 11.6 rebounds per game over the last three? Did I mention his amazingly affordable contract (two years, $15.7 million)?

So, how much is he worth?

Well, the Nuggets have decided that Marcus Camby is worth the right to swap future second round picks.

WHAT?!?

That's right, the Nuggets have traded Camby to the Clippers, and that's all they got. There are trades that are head-scratchers and there are trades that are simply mind-boggling. Like the Pau Gasol trade earlier this season, this particular trade is the latter.

Trade Analysis - Marcus Camby to the Clippers

Ok now the Clippers spent some money, they cant possibly sign Iggy

Ok... so the Clippers got a Elton Brand replacement... yeah right... But they did manage to pick up Marcus Camby for only a 2nd rd pick. So Iggy just sign the doggon extention so we can move on!!! Nobody worth anything can sign you... you can not and will not have the career that you have in Philly any where else... so hurry up and sign!!!

Baron, Brand and Maggette: Game Theory Explains.

No, "game theory" is not some regional offshoot of pimpology. Game theory is actually a respected branch of applied mathematics, where the application in question is frequently the social sciences. Given the seemingly inexplicable chain reaction that sent Boom Dizzle south, Elton Brand east and Cory Maggette north, let's see what the smart guys might have already expected to happen. Behold, the Prisoner's Dilemma.

Hot Stove Philly Week In Review

Week In Review
By Jonathan Atwood on July 14th, 2008 9:16 PM

previous post: Burnett Appears to be Out of the Mix
next post: Fan Impersonates Phillies Player At All Star Fan Fest

The Phillies did not start the week out well, but ended it in strong fashion as they head into this season's All Star break in first place in the National League East, a half a game up on the New York Mets.

After losing three of four to the Mets, the Phillies stormed back and took two of three from both the Cardinals and Diamondbacks, including a four game win streak. It's not a nine game win streak, but you can't complain too much with ending the first half in first place.

The break, in my opinion, will actually benefit the Phillies and hurt the Mets. The Phils are playing well, but are not streaking like their New York rivals, and a four day break is the last thing you want if you are on a multiple game win streak. Hopefully the Phillies can capitalize and build on this past week, while the Mets will hopefully suffer from their time off.

Trade rumors surround the Phillies as fellow National League teams the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs made serious acquisitions to bolster their pitching rotations in CC Sabathia and Rich Harden, respectively. It was thought that they were the front runner to get Blue Jays' righty A.J. Burnett, but recent reports indicate that the Phils have cooled off on their former NL East rival and Philly is on Burnett's no trade list. With the league on break, it is very possible that the Phils could make a deal this week. Reports are that they are focusing on Erik Bedard of the Mariners.

The biggest news of the past week was the Sixers' signing of free agent forward Elton Brand to a five year, $82 million deal. The week before, Brand had opted out of the last year of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, stating at the time that he intended on re-signing, possibly for less money, if the Clips signed guard Baron Davis. The Clippers reached a verbal agreement with Davis, but talks broke down with Brand and he began looking elsewhere. That is when Sixers' GM Ed Stefanski stepped in and offered the deal that brought back east.

The Phillies need to make the most of their time off this week and come back Friday well rested. All signs point to the NL Wild Card coming out of the Central this year, so if the Phils hope to make the playoffs, they are going to have to win the division. The Mets are hot on their tales and the Phils are going to have to pick right up where they left off and keep the peddle to the metal.

Continue to stay posted as we bring you constant trade news, as well as Sixers and Flyers continued off season transactions.
