Who's the Baddest in MMA

This isn't about the top 10 best fighters in the world based on skill. It's the top 10 fighters you would want by your side when the s*!t hits the fan. Keep in mind that appearance is half the battle when a hairy situation needs defused. let's proceed with caution.

1. Chuck Liddell - He's big, has a mohawk, and a reputation for being pretty damn good street fighter. Is there another choice for number one?

2. Kimbo Slice - Kimbo is one of the most intimidating.................

One More Time: Kimbo Is Great

Kimbo Slice is one of the greatest things to ever happen to MMA. Let me try rephrasing that: We should be thankful that Kimbo Slice has decided to pursue a career in MMA. Got it?

"Wreckonize" by Smif-N-Wessun : Awesome hip hop classic for MMA fighters

I can see a hip MMA fighter, especially Rampage Jackson or Kimbo Slice, warming up or entering a fight to this song. It's got everything hardcore : the beat, the bassline, the attitude, the rhymes. It's the sound that wants to make you kick someone's ass in the cage.

"Wreckonize" came out in 1995, so it's right around the time Rampage or Kimbo would be bumping this jam in their Walkmans.

Let me know what you guys think.

Forget Brock and Kimbo, Shane Carwin is the next Big Thing

Brock Lesnar and Kimbo Slice have taken the MMA world by storm over the past 12 months and both have been promoted as the hottest attraction in the sport. The problem is, neither one has lived up to all the hype. UFC newcomer Shane Carwin not only looks like a top contender, but he is showing the world that despite the lack of hype he is the future of the sport in the heavyweight division.

Five Fights That SHOULD Happen in '08

Recently, Ariel Helwani came up with a great list of five fights that SHOULD NOT happen in '08. Well, it got my wheels spinning and inspired me to come up with five fights that SHOULD happen before the year is up.

Jeff Monson Calls Out Kimbo Slice on Youtube

Jeff Monson is steppin to kimbo and calling him out. Jeff monson would destroy Kimbo and put him back on the heavy weight map. I think this is a smart move for Jeff after seeing how Kimbo performed against James Thompson.

Coolness Counts in MMA

Being cool counts for a lot in MMA. With the IFL all but going under, I couldn't help but look into the coolness factor that makes or breaks an MMA business. If you want to succeed in the fight game, you must be cool. After you pass the minimum skill and fitness standards, it's all about the cool. Either you have to have an exciting fighting style that makes the crowd go bonkers, or you have to have the marketability.

The IFL had quality fighters who could put on good fights, but they didn't have any cool. The team concept was a little contrived, and guys like Chris Horodecki, Roy Nelson, Vladimir Katyushenko and Tim Kennedy are good fighters, no doubt, but they won't exactly induce the casual fan to tune in.

Now it's time to examine the coolness factors of the other major MMA promotions and their future prospects.

Talkin 'Bout Kimbo Slice Part II

A few weeks back I wrote about Kimbo Slice and his pros and cons and while I didn't think he was the real deal yet I thought he was on his way if he kept training. Then we finally got to see the fight and we all learned what many of you have long suspected-Kimbo was terrible. It was simply an awful fight that Kimbo may or may not have really lost (I don't think Thompson was doing enough damage to warrant a stoppage myself).

I knew going in the Thompson was a bum, but I expected Kimbo to knock him out in the first minute, instead as many of you saw the fight was stopped in the third when Kimbo exploded Thompson's revolting cauliflower ear. Even before that he looked awful, he was completely gassed by mid way through the second round and when he did win he collapsed on the ground and looked like he might have a heart attack. It was pathetic.

So all in all I felt like a moron for ever writing about Kimbo-but then I learned something interesting. A ton of people are now actually interested in MMA because of that awful, awful fight. I was in a sports bar the night of the fight and sitting at the table near me was an older woman who had never even heard of MMA. She started asking me all kinds of questions about Kimbo and at first I thought I was being mocked because of my excitement but I learned from a mutual acquaintance that she had since on her own done tons of research about MMA and Kimbo and consequently was now addicted. Hopefully it is only a matter of time before she starts watching some good MMA and there is another fan out there.

Being totally amazed by this I asked around and the consensus is that people who don't know anything about MMA were amazed and intrigued simply because on national TV he "exploded some dudes ear."

So all in all I have to change my opinion of Kimbo's role in the MMA world. I am no longer of the opinion that he was a waste of time but rather I think he may just be a good thing for MMA. For whatever reason he makes people want to watch when he fights. And while I can't condone watching him fight it can only be a matter of time before those who watch to see him, start to watch real fighters.

Forrest Griffin did not KO Kimbo Slice

It was rumored to have happened during a sparring session, but Forrest put those rumors to rest: "I never knocked Kimbo out. Let's just get that clear. Kimbo's not the kind of guy you want to have angry at you. I like the guy so I'd assume not piss him off and have him try to beat me up."

Kimbo is an Underdog, and I'm on the Bandwagon

So last Friday I'm watching the Showtime replay of Kimbo Vs Thompson, and it hits me like a brick..... I'm freaking rooting for Kimbo! Before I go any further let me pre-empt myself by stating that Kimbo in no way shape or form needs to be in the main event of any show, except maybe the one down at the local beer joint. But, that's not his fault. And the reason why I think I started rooting for him is that Kimbo is the underdog. We all know that Kimbo needs a lot of work, and would get killed by a top level mixed martial artist, that make him the underdog. From Dictionary.com: un-der-dog –noun 1. A person who is expected to lose in a contest or conflict. I shouldn't hate Kimbo because he is in the main event. The dude was homeless at one point (homeless people are underdogs in life). EiliteXC comes up to him, offers him a big paycheck to be in the headliner of the first ever nationally televised MMA show, and the guy jumps in with both feet. He would be an idiot for not doing it. Kimbo needs to whip up on some scrubs. It's only fair, everyone else in the sport of MMA did when they first started. Jeremy Horn has a hundred fights, how many of those were against tomato cans? 20? 30? 40? I have know idea but I'm positive it's several. Most fighters now days have a pretty healthy dose of armature fights or wrestling matches under their belts before turning pro. Kimbo didn't get that privilege. don't say anything about street fights counting, because they don't. I got into a fight once when I was a kid on the church bus, as much as I would like to, I can't put that one on my record. I'm on the Kimbo bandwagon. I'm not sure where it's going, but it should be an interesting ride.

Only Grove or Tanner Will Get Out of Their Holes.

The main event this Saturday in the Ultimate Fighter Finale features former Ultimate Fighter Winner Kendall Grove vs former UFC middleweight champ Evan Tanner.

Kendall Grove was undefeated in the UFC until he got violated by Patrick Cote in UFC 74. Grove looked to bounce back against Jorge Rivera in UFC 80 and this time the difference was he was TKO'd rather than being KO'd. Now he faces the possibility of being the second Ultimate Fighter winner to be given his marching papers from the UFC.

Tanner is a much more ridiculous story. He won the UFC middleweight title at UFC 51 only to then lose it to Rich Franklin at UFC 53 where he was annihalated. And from their it got wierd for Tanner. The story is he drank and blew away all his winnings and that was culminated with him drunkenly sinking his 1939 boat. Now he comes back to the UFC without any sponsors to try to get himself back on track.
Whoever wins the fight stays in the UFC the loser is gone. My bet if Tanner can avoid the doctors stopping another one of his fight (he has lost several due to getting bad cuts) I think he stops Grove. Thus opening the door for Grove and Travis Lutter to tag team Khalib Starnes and Kimbo Slice at the next Elite XC.
