Georges St-Pierre: A Canadian Treasure

If you read this site with any sort of regularity, you know that I am a huge fan of Georges St-Pierre. In fact, up until last weekend I thought GSP was the number two in the world for best pound-for-pound fighter. Although Fedor Emelianenko now claims that top spot, GSP didn't fall far. He's still the third best fighter in the world in my book and is the best fighter that was born on the North American continent. All-in-all I'd say he's still pretty damn good.

Matt Serra "I'm Not Losing to Him"

Matt Serra doesn't want to lose to Matt Hughes. He hates the guy. Hughes called him out after his loss to Silva. Serra joked around that he had the post-loss speech written before the fight.

Matt is just coming back from an injury that sidelined him since the GSP title fight. He damaged a nerve that made his arm completely numb. He said it happened with the first or second elbow he threw in the whole fight.

These two fighters are no longer at the top of the contender list and aren't looking to get a title shot anytime soon. But this fight still weighs heavy on the interest of TUF fans. This fight should have happened a long time ago and the hype / anticipation of this actually happening is interesting.

Giving the Welterweight division "Kos" for concern

As Josh Koscheck prepares for his fight at UFC 86 against Chris Lytle, there's no secret as to what is expected from him. Koscheck is already one of the top fighters in the world in the welterweight division despite only having 15 professional fights.

Matt Hughes is just fine

After his defeat to Thiago Alves on Saturday night in London, there now seems to be a growing faction of fans and writers calling for Matt Hughes' retirement. I know Matt Hughes isn't the most popular fighter out there and people have their reasons for not liking him but to say that it is time for him to retire is flat out foolish.

Thiago Alves: A New Dog in the Yard

Thiago Alves showed the world Saturday night in London that he is indeed for real and the rest of the welterweight division is now on notice. Alves beat Matt Hughes at 1:02 of the second round by TKO due to strikes. Alves caught Hughes with a jumping knee. Hughes fell to the ground and Alves finished it with big fists to Hughes' face.

UFC 85 Preview

We're just a couple hours away from UFC 85: Bedlam and I thought I better get in with my predictions. First off, I'm really disappointed that Thiago Alves didn't make weight. I can't believe that a fighter who is about to have the biggest fight of his career could come in four pounds over the limit. Alves is a great young fighter but this really makes me question his heart and desire to be a champion in the future.

My MMA Hangover

Despite the amazing show put on by WEC last night, I still can't seem to shake off the abortion of a show that was EliteXC. The only thing sports radio is talking about today is what a joke Kimbo Slice was. People say the best way to nurse a hangover is with more alcohol. So to help out my MMA hangover, I'm going to talk more MMA. Except I'm going to focus on the good and look ahead instead of continuing to look back.

St-Pierre stomps Serra to become Undisputed UFC Champion

Georges St-Pierre once again rose to the top of the UFC Welterweight Division with his victory over Matt Serra Saturday night. St-Pierre won at 4:45 of the second round due to a TKO. GSP finished it off with several knees to Serra's body.

There was no doubt going into the fight whose side the crowd was on. St-Pierre grew up 20 minutes outside of Montreal and was the undisputed crowd favorite. Serra took all the boos in stride and played a great villain to St-Pierre's hero role. St-Pierre did a great job staying in the moment and not letting his emotions get the best of him at the start of the fight.
